This is an excellent lens for its price point (if you've bought it as part of a 'kit lens' bundle). I got it bundled with my X-T20 all those years ago and have never felt the urge to need to buy another lens within that focal range for general photography (street/ urban/ travel). I'd be very happy to just have the XF 18-55 paired with an ultra-wide like the Sigma 10-18 or a Laowa 9mm Zero-D for travel. The OIS built-in on this is really amazing; I normally use an adapted Flektogon 35/ 2.4 on my X-T20 and had swapped back to the 18-55 earlier today to teach my wife the basics (so she'd not have to care about MF). I totally forgot that this lens had OIS and was wondering why we were going down to 1/10 SS without any shake (trying to teach her about shutter speeds and priority). That was a facepalm moment. Optically, this lens is most excellent by kit lens standards but I find that the sharpness and lack of LOCA also detracts from the 'old film' look I prefer - hence, I usually prefer having the Flektogon on the body if I can.

If they never called this a kit lens and priced it higher, it’d probably be coveted by pros. Fuji has made pro lenses for years in the tv broadcast world and never really made them for the masses, like Canon trying sell Rebels with a kit lens in Costcos across the country. So that’s why this lens is so well made.

For the money, this lens is amazing. DPReview TV compared it to the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 and it performed extremely well. I own a Japan-made copy and use it on an X-T2 and an X-T5. Highly recommended, especially for travel.

Probably one of my all time favourite lenses..... lives on my XT1 (as prefer the older 16mp sensor) and has produced some of my favourite images to date

This is a great lens. I have a made in japan one. My other fuji lenses are not made in japan. Excellent videos

is there any major difference between the made in Japan one that you could ascertain, id be curious to see if manufacturing differences effect overall performance.

@@FlatLanderOptical i honestly dont think so. The lens is crazy sharp and the ois works better than i remember. I have had the 18-55 a few times. It really is a perfect travel lens.

Its a very good combo, corporate sharp with excellent stabilization, its for those gigs where its fast, handheld but you need somewhat long lasting footage to fill up the frame. however its also worth looking at that new tamron 18 70 2.8 as that seems to have everything this one doesnt.

hey platlander, moest gelijk weer even denken om deze lens weer even op te pakken voor de EDC, dacht drop even een comment, want dat is weer goed voor de resultaten aangezien de kwaliteit van je kanaal veel hoger is dan je abonnees op het moment, maarja wat wil je met 3 vids.
