Was at a car show in Fukuoka City just last weekend and saw all the classic Japanese cars that you wanna have in your garage. Sure; kei cars, a Toyota 200GT, Toyota Carinas, Toyota Coronas, Toyota Celicas, Toyota MR2s, a Nissan C130 Laurels, Nissan Cherry 1X-R, Isuzu Bellett GT-Rs, Nissan Bluebirds, Nissan Fairladies, Nissan Bluebirds, Nissan Skylines, an AE82 Toyota Corolla GT, a Subaru Brat, some X chassis Mark IIs, a pair of wicket Mitsubishi Galants (not Magnas), and then an actual Lotus Type 104 Omega! Epic show.

Prob Original badges on the Lotus Omega, that was the European branding. Opel for Europe, Vauxhall in the U.K. Fun Fact: The British Government considered banning he sale of them here, questioning why there was a need for a 174mph saloon to be on the roads. They were the criminals choice for the "ram-raiding" trend back then 🤣 Grest Vid Dan 👍🏽 Some real gems. Thanks

What a great event that looked! Kinda shocked to see a few unusual cars popping up this time. I feel the same with the generic collector cars. Skylines and supras. X platform is so rare either in Peru or the US that that's why i ended up with the cressida but i bet you feel like me with the common classics with those. They're just so common! What shocked me were the two white coronas, specially the one with the short bumper those were the ones they used on the Peruvian model and i always assumed the ones with the painted longer ones were japanese and nothing else, also that green datsun wagon next to the beetle, i know them as stanza. Amazing cars bulletproof J15 motor!!

Speaking of those two Coronas... The GT-T I did a video on a while back (I assume you know it), but both it and the Wasabi AT141 that I recently showed, were both owned by the owner of the short bumper Corona.

Lotus Carlton! Yes! It would have been sold as a Vauxhall in Briton, unless it was sold new in Japan, then it could be an Opel I guess? Yes the same platform the VN Commodore came from. They also used the same zf 6 speed in the VN group a as well as the corvette ZR1.
@ltdscott

I think you're right. I thought all RHD were badged as Vauxhall and all LHD as Opel, but just recently I've seen three RHD versions of these in Japan that were all badged as Opel, so I'm guessing those were original Japanese market cars.

Another great video! So as far as distinguishing a two-seater z32 from a 2 + 2... Look for the fuel filler door. If the fuel filler door is ahead of the rear wheel going toward the front of the car it would be in two-seater car. All slicktop (without T-tops) and all factory convertibles two-seater platforms. There was also a two-seater t-top. If the fuel filler door is behind the rear wheel going toward the rear of the car it is a 2 + 2 which were all T-top cars. There were twin turbo variants of all of these z32s excluding the convertible they were all non-turbo. But these variants we're only available in certain configurations in certain parts of the world. Japan basically got everything. In Europe the only configurations you could get were two plus two twin turbos. Australia only got two plus two non turbos. In the north America if you wanted a twin turbo it had to be a two-seater t-top car. Also, back to when you mentioned the Chevrolet El Camino and the Ford version... The Ford version would have been the Ford Ranchero. I've noticed that I've seen the lotus Carlton badged as both opel and Vauxhall depending on where the vehicle originated from. I believe the opel versions were originally sold in Germany and Vauxhall were sold throughout the rest of Europe. I'm not 100% sure on that but that's what I seem to remember reading one time.

Great video Dan! You missed the excellent Carina A60 at @4:09... And of course the segue to the Corona video you posted last week when showing those amazing Coronas or the GX71 with the 1G-GTE engine. About the Lotus Omega: the fact that it is branded as an Opel and an Omega tells me it was originally sold in Japan. In the UK it was obviously sold as the Lotus Carlton and in European mainland as the Lotus Omega and the two were the same car. The fact that this car is a RHD model it should have the Vauxhall brand when it was imported from the UK. However Opel did have a presence in Japan until the mid 1990s, so this means it has been sold officially in Japan via the Opel dealers. There is no other way it could have the Opel badges unless someone swapped them for no particular reason. You see I'm equally excited about this car! 😆
@wasabicars
@wasabicars Жыл бұрын
That Carina! Yeah, I actually shot a heap of footage of it at the owners request. Yeah, it's cool, but when people push for a video, it takes away the joy of the video. Also, I don't think I got much info on the car either. Hard for me to make a watchable video. Sorry. I know you love the Carinas. And, you nailed it about the Lotus Omega. Spot on!

As an English man I can tell you the black motor is a Lotus Carlton in the mid 90s with it 3.6 Twin Turbo 389bhp Engine it was the fastest saloon car in the world. About £45,000 when new from 91 to 95 British government stopped GM making them. Many chasses on the motorways and the coppers couldn't catch armed robbers.

The deal is that it was imported from Singapore to Japan (to my knowledge, no Vauxhall presence in either place at the time, hence the Opel badges). It then went unsold in Japan for 10 years until the current owner bought it. Pretty incredible story given the cult status of the car. There'll be a Lotus meet-up on Nov 20 when I'll get to meet the owner and shoot some more video of his car. Can't wait

All were originally Belgium built at the Opel plant as a RHD/LHD vauxhall carlton Opel omega GSi3000 . They were shipped to Hethel lotus plant engine out car ripped to bits and ended up with this monster , 340 Lotus Carlton's RHD and 650 Opel omega built. Not sure why only 1000ish were built but Regarding vauxhall version government got involved as they were so powerful and they were been stolen by armed robbers , car thief's and police could not catch them.
