Nice! I've always been curious about Hakata. My favourite kind of ramen is hakata ramen, I love mentaiko, and also the city looks pretty chill.

For awhile, going to Japan seemed like one of those things for me that I'd always talk about wanting to do, but not actually doing it. But my mom surprised me a couple days ago saying she already booked hotels and we're going from June 3-9 for a graduation present. I'm picking up my passport tomorrow and can't even say how excited I am!

Awesome surprise! You'll more or less beat the worst of summer, but it's the start of the rainy season. So, I'll wish good weather upon you but my wishing may not be enough. =P Anyway, point is, weather may be bad- so you'll need to be watching the forecasts, and will probably need to be flexible to make the best of any clear weather days you get (and will probably want to research in advance some stuff you want to see that's mostly inside if you get any downpour days).

I am going to study abroad in Fukuoka for a year and right now I am scouring the Internet for all the things to do and places to visit :D I already studied a year in Kyoto and am fluent in Japanese, but I did not have had the chance to visit the south of Japan yet (except for a week in Nagasaki), so I am really stoked to see that side of Japan as well!

I really liked the big mall when I went there. So many other cool things there too. I remember I was on my way to the beach when the bus drove past the baseball stadium and there was a Hawks game going on, so I figured... why not! After the gameI went to the the yatai shops by the river and had dinner there. That was a good day. I really do love it when your videos send me on a trip down memory lane. Thanks for making them.

May and June are full of weddings this year.. yet again ^^ So yeah .. good food for free without really doing a thing and enough alcohol to drown a soccer team or two with it sounds like a pretty decent time. While i missed the Japan-Day in Düsseldorf yesterday :-X Can't have everything i guess. Hope you had a good one too. BTW if you happen to read this: Do you (or someone you know) know nice places to go by in a boat? I though maybe something like Miyajima since one would probably get a quite different perspective of especially such islands place with you own ship to go around with.

I visited Canal City in 2008 for a business trip. Fukuoka/Tenjin/Hakata is really a nice complex of great food and liquors. Breakfast in Mentaiko is also unique to Kyushu. Nakasu is also a well-known night city (though I've never visited the area - beware of tourist traps). And recently web and IT companies are building their branches in Fukuoka for more diversed and talented workforce (disclaimer: including one of my client companies). Great video as always :)

I love Fukuoka! Have been there so many times. But you missed my favorite part! Fukuoka tower and Momochi beach. I think Fukuoka tower is the coolest tower in Japan with the blue lights. Momochi beach is in front of it and it's pretty fun. Also the Yahoo Japan Dome is next to the tower, where you can see baseball if you're a fan of it. Another great place close to Fukuoka is Nokonoshima. You can get there using a ferry from Fukuoka, and from there you can see the awesome skyline of Fukuoka.

あらゆる日本の文化的なことに夢中であるアメリカ人です。 I've heard Chinese speak English with a "British" accent who live in Hong Kong. Not all that unique, they. But to hear a "British" accented English spoken by a Japanese(!) person is truly a unique, truly interesting experience. I have done my share of traveling, but to hear your English is, like, almost transcendental to me.
