Mike's personal split routine had him doing an average of 18 sets to failure per workout day. That's about 36 sets over two workouts done over 3-4 days and 60-80 a week. Jones and Darden stuck with total body but ended up using two different total body workouts 2-3 times per week with 8-12 exercises each for 1-2 sets. For example, they would do pulldowns in one workout and rows in the other, biceps in one and forearms in the other, shoulder presses in one and lateral raises in the other. That is basically what the consolidation routine is as well.
@FloridaManMatty9 ай бұрын
Anyone actually employing the degree of intensity advocated by Jones for MAXIMUM muscle recovery and overcompensation would be physically incapable of performing that workout three days per week. The cumulative stress on the nervous system would lead to unbelievable systemic fatigue in a matter of MAYBE 2-3 weeks for even an elite-level trainer. Muscle recovery and overcompensation (growth) isn’t really THAT taxing on a relatively fit person. It is the systemic fatigue of the autonomous nervous system that requires so much attention. Jones was a bona fide genius, but Mike was the chief exponent and practitioner of Jone’s ideas. Mike simply used superior logic and an actual understanding of human physiology (along with a respectable amount of Deca and amphetamine) to expand Jone’s ideas to a greater extent.

I’m all for full-body workouts. So many benefits, but only if you are going for yourself. If you are a professional i.e body builder or a strong person. Splits are the way as you do need more recovery, you also have time to go 5-6 times a week. You only need to do 8-10 exercises with heavy weights or body weight. Hit each body part in one day for 2 or 3 days a week and you can keep it consistent. For example I do quads 1 exercise hamstrings 1 exercise calves 1 exercise chest 2 exercises back 2 exercises shoulders 2 exercises abs 1 exercise You can superset some exercises to save time if you wanted to fit in biceps and triceps. I don’t mainly because I train heavy so my biceps and triceps get enough work from heavy back and chest exercises. Focus on enjoying the process and eating to fuel your workouts and get 6-8 hours sleep every night. Keep it simple and you will see results everything is too complicated mainly due to people wanting more money from you. I hope this helps someone and keep up the hard work, it does pay off. Also if you feel sore or tired just take another rest day and eat/drink loads, your body will be fine!

As you get stronger, you may find that the demands of the total body workout is just too much. I found that that happened after about five months of following Jone's program. My training partner and I were using Nautilus equipment, and we saw our strength almost double by that time. We were using the entire stack on quite a few machines (we even had to pin a 45 lb plate to the stack of certain pieces of equipment). By the time we got to the eighth or ninth exercise, working towards completing twelve, our hands and legs were trembling. We then decided to shift to a two-way split, still working three days a week. We continued to progress and felt a lot better (albeit, we were still sore most of the time). Unfortunately, we started to add more and more volume, with more exercises, and lost sight of the fact that, as we were getting stronger, we needed to allow for more recovery. This mistake is what ended up derailing our efforts... after which we just abandoned the weights.

When he was coaching Dorian Yates, he prescribed him a PPL routine (you can find this routine in the book The Wisdom of Mike Mentzer written by John Little). However, in his last book, Mike's ideal routine is Chest-Back, Legs, Shoulders-Arms, and Legs again. I've tried both routines and concluded that PPL is better for me since the recovery is easier. When I train Chest and Back in the first workout, I have to insert a Leg session in between Chest-Back and Shoulders-Arms workouts because training chest fatigues triceps-front delts and training back fatigues biceps-rear delts.

Mike’s program actually is ideal for a natural lifter. a natural lifter needs far more recovery time than someone taking gear. Mike addresses this fact.
@vinnymarchegiano7 ай бұрын
@joehadenough1642 Sir, a natural lifter needs more overload for adaptation than Mike suggests. Long cardio sessions, two-a-days, plyometrics, its a lot of work. Even on rest days 30min of cardio min. I know from experience. You gotta work if you wanna be a cover girl 💃💪🫢

@@nemanjamarkovic2444 you can disagree all you want but it doesn't make it any less true. People can focus on not making one side bigger than another or even equalizing certain size differences. The problem is that most of the symmetry comes from the shape of the muscle itself which is entirely a genetic trait.

Some body parts take longer to recover than other body parts. I broken my body into ten body parts resting 2-3 days depending on the body part. This adds up to doing 3-4 body parts per day training every day. After 12, the cycle repeats Even though you are training every day, you are not overtraining because each body part has 2-3 days of rest

Each muscle group ONE time a week(9-12 sets TO FAILURE) has provided me (age 55) more growth than I ever experienced in my younger days(2 muscle groups per workout 2 times per week) !Steroids are the difference.Natural training will not produce the same growth. That's just the truth.

Depends how you feel sometimes ya don’t wanna over Do it especially making weight you lose too much strength so depends on timing phase of training your on , and age .

This all works with people on anabolic... Me' as natural' if stop training for a week and keeping diet' I lose mass.
@brunojuarez18839 ай бұрын
not really. steroids help mostly with recovery time, so if what you are saying is true, then people on gear would be the ones most affected after a week of not training. However, that is not case So, you, as a natural, would greatly benefit in strength and size gains when waiting 4-7 days between workouts, so that you ensure that your body has recovered properly.

@@brunojuarez1883this is nonsense. Steroids will put muscle on you no matter what. There are a couple of exceptions but someone that is on as much stuff as Mentzer will get away with anything. For naturals frequency and volume are very important. You will not make long term progress on this nonsense program (if you're very weak and frail you can gain muscle as a beginner but as soon as you reach the intermediate stage or even earlier you will stop growing completely and might even regress).

No? If you read up on that guy he doesn’t advocate for any specific split he just recommends extremely high levels of intensity for whatever muscle you are working and then resting a lot afterwards
@metalhoe10 ай бұрын
It depends on your lifestyle, if you can afford to do full body and then be very fatigued for maybe 2-3 days or if you want to split that fatigue so you still have energy left to do other stuff. I also think splitting is better because the recovery process can focus on certain muscles instead of your whole body.
@axllomein721510 ай бұрын
From everything I've listened to, he advocates for high intensity at a level fit to the individual, I may be wrong, but whether you do whole or split high intensity you are fine as long as you can recover, and make gains in either weight or reps each workout. I imagine if you do full body HIT you will probably need more recovery time between workouts. Recovery is key. Mike also stressed not overtraining. As a natty, I could maybe do full body twice a week, maybe....
@dhiraaribnal-azwar784010 ай бұрын
@@axllomein7215 yea but honestly full body split sucks, you gotta do so many body parts in one workout and keep the intensity high from the start to the end wich is not optimal. Half body seems to be better and and personnalized split even better still
