Full Conversion: Large Flat Commutator Motor (LFCM) DCC Econami (Marklin 60944, 3174) DSB MY 1126

Video showing an upgrade to a Marklin large flat commutator motors. In this video I'll use a Marklin 60944 motor upgrade kit to convert a Märklin H0 3174 Danish State Railways (DSB) Class MY (MY 1126) locomotive in HO scale. This locomotive was repainted for its role as a test locomotive for an automatic locomotive management system. Since the MY class was basically an export version of an EMD export locomotive originally designed for Australia, you can use a Soundtraxx Econami for Diesel decoder since it uses the same basic two-stroke EMD 567 engine used in F- and E- units in North America. It's not perfect-perfect, exact-exact, but it's close enough for me, especially given the cost savings involved.

I have that train too. Some interesting fact is that it was built in 1957 and was taken out of komission and repainted in '88. DSB 1126 "Grafitti" MY and it still runs today.. I think it can be rented for special occasion Great video!

Thank you for making this video. Can you confirm the test track (at 12:30) is 3 rail? The center studs look like plastic.

Is it possible to convert one of these to standard two rail track?

It's possible, but not easy.. You'd have to replace the driving wheels since they're the wrong width and they'd short the track.

What power supply do you use? Since the motor is converted you can't use the original Märklin power supply, can you?

This converts the motor to run on digital. It won’t work with Marklin analog after you do this.

I should say, it WILL work with a DC transformer after this, also, so as long as one side (the engineer's side.. but both will work, I suppose) goes down the center and the other side goes down the rails, but I'm thinking few people are running Marklin stuff on DC.. but it might happen.. who knows?
