Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announces pricing for the updated 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, which continues its long-standing tradition as a pure expression of effortless, joyful driving. Well-balanced, lightweight, and an outstanding power-to-weight ratio all help make MX-5 Miata a popular driver's car. On sale this winter, MX-5 Miata has been updated with a host of changes that all fans are sure to appreciate.
All MX-5 Miata models have a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout, with a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering an inspiring 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm routed through a six-speed transmission. The MX-5 Miata Sport and Club models are exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission and MX-5 Miata Grand Touring is offered in either a manual transmission or a quick-shifting six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The 2024 MX-5 Miata will continue to feature the well-received and appreciated Kinematic Posture Control (KPC), a software-based suspension performance technology developed by Mazda that manages different vehicle systems to help provide MX-5 Miata with improved precision and confidence in high-g cornering and behave as a harmonious extension of the driver's body without adding a single gram of weight. Taking advantage of existing rear suspension geometry designed to keep the MX-5 Miata planted under braking, KPC applies a very slight brake to the inner rear wheel during high-g cornering. This pulls down on that corner, suppressing body roll, and making steering response feel more linear through tight or rough corners. Slightly stronger braking is used when accelerating through a corner, enhancing the limited slip effect.
Building off this already strong package, MX-5 Miata receives major updates to the electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system for 2024 including a new steering rack. The rack has been revised internally, resulting in reduced friction, as well as accompanying changes to the electric assist calibration through new software. This all results in smoother steering action with a more defined ‘on-center’ feeling for relaxed freeway cruising, yet greater precision as the front tires are loaded up under hard cornering.
MX-5 Miata’s exterior sees changes as well, with updated headlights that incorporate a new LED DRL element, new LED taillights and new wheel designs. With the addition of Zircon Sand Metallic in 2023, another new exterior color has been added to the roster for 2024 with Aero Gray, which offers a cool tone that contrasts nicely against MX-5 Miata’s available dark trim and wheels.
Inside, drivers benefit from a revised interior which gets several key updates. The center console receives extra padding for improved driver comfort. A revised gauge cluster now features simplified, high-contrast graphics for easier readability at a glance. All MX-5 Miata models also benefit from a new, larger 8.8-inch infotainment display, with touch functionality when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Paired with this new display is Mazda’s first ever integration of Alexa, which adds further flexibility, with hands-free commands for things like HVAC, radio and more. Alexa is able to accept commands for things inside the vehicle, as well as connect and control your smart home devices remotely. In the 2024 MX-5 Miata, this higher level of flexibility minimizes driver distraction, allowing them to remain focused on the winding roads ahead.

Correction: DSC Trac is also standard on the GT manual, as are all performance features. There are no mechanical differences between the standard Club and GT manual. A lot of people are still misinformed about this, even though they have been mechanically identical for at least 5 years now. The only difference would be the optional $4800 Brembo/BBS/Recaro package on the Club, which is absurdly overpriced in my opinion.

@@lawrencelin272 That little exercise would only be relevant if I cared about any of those features, which I don't. The GT will perform just like the Club with that option package, and do so with more standard tech and comfort features and at a lower price. I'd choose the GT over the Club every time.

@@lawrencelin272 The Recaro seats are structured almost identically to the normal seats, with the only differences being upholstery and slightly larger side bolsters. The wheel money is better spent on either smaller 16"s for comfort or wider 17"s for track, with plenty of lighter options for both uses. You're only paying for some pretty badges and two brake calipers.

So glad the ND3 is finally coming! The new lights will be a great look, and the LSD sounds incredible. Can't wait for my Trueno to arrive but the ND nearly won me over haha. I hope the Mazda6 comes back soon, I think a new one would be a really great fit for Mazda's new sporty and premium image.

I wish Mazda would increase the length of the MX-5 by a few inches to increase leg room on both sides. It's pretty tight for driver at 5'10" and probably passenger at 5'8". I also wish they could increase HP to 200-220. That Iconic looks so sweet.

In Europe the ND comes with an 1.5 4 cylinder as well. About the colours: annual MX5 production is around 40K units, so you can not expect them to offer a wide plethora of paint options. Soul red is for sure great, but it is drawing too much attention for me, so I bought mine in Jet Mica Black. Stealth look and a lot of work to keep it clean 😄

why would the model sales limit the paint options, mazda on a whole sells over a million cars each year globally. You think each model gets their own specific paint options?

@@maxmeier532 MX5 is less than 5%, switching paint takes time. Where I live (EUR) in the configuraor almost all models are presented in Soul Red. Economies of scale. Think about Tesla, they sell tons of cars but try to simplify the production process to the extreme, hence almost no color choices even for their expensive models.

I do expect Mazda to do better with color options, both interior and exterior. They keep jacking up the price of this car (nearly $3000 in just the last 3 years) so why shouldn't they be expected to put some of those extra profits into more choices? Besides, they already charge extra for most colors, even the bad ones, so they may as well add a few more. I'm definitely going to purchase a ND3 this fall, but I no longer consider it the bargain it once was. I might just get my GT in black since it's the only free color and have it wrapped in a color of my choice. I'll be getting PPF anyway.

I was wondering who would be the first reviewer to drop a video after the ND3 configurator went live on Friday and I am not at all surprised it was Kirk haha. I am already planning my factory order, but I have to say, I too am very disappointed in the boring color choices and HUGE price increase, especially since Mazda had a similar price increase just 2 years ago. The total Miata price increase since 2022 is nearly $3000! That's tough to swallow, even with the mostly desirable ND3 upgrades.

The MX5 is that one sports car I can go out and buy because it’s in stock and it’s still so good. 😍Excited for the rotary coming back. Mazda being itself again with slow perfection and rotary engines. Too bad the Mazda6 is being discontinued. I hope the new Mazda6 comes out as soon as possible, and I hope there would be a wagon variant.

Thank you for mentioning the boring-unfun-unsafe exterior colors. 🎯💯 Shades of gray and beige blend into the pavement, an unsafe situation, especially for a small car surrounded in a sea of SUVs. I am glad to see the Napa tan interior brightening and giving the interior a greater sense of spaciousness. While not quite as good as the Napa white leather from a few years back, anything is better than black, especially when parked top down in the summer sun. ♨️ Thank you for what you do. Hope Mazda listens to you too.💎

Thank you for the rant on MX-5 colors. I couldn't agree with you more. I have owned 4 MX-5s, all red. My current 2019 ND2 in Soul Red is just plain beautiful. It constantly gets compliments. Someone in the Mazda paint department is color blind!

I wanted a 2024 Miata so bad but because of the poor color choices, ended up buying a 2 year old Miata GT manual because it was the last year for Poly Metal Grey which is somewhat interesting, going from blue to grey according to the sunlight. But of course Mazda had to discontinue it. All other colors were so disappointing. The color of my cars is SO important to me. Mazda pay attention!

If its that important get a paint job or wrap. U would have to pay a grand anyways to get a different paint as an option brand new so pay a extra 2 grand get it painted. N it will be unique 1 of 1. N not all other colors are dissapointing since they have crystal soul red the greatest paint ever put on a vehicle even cars that cost millions dont have paint this nice. Also theres the orange 19th anniversary

Thanks for the info you presented. It looks as if I am am the only one who actually doesn't care for the Soul Red. I do like red....just not Soul Red, unless it's a fingernail polish color. When I bought my 22 Club with BBS Brembo Recaro pkg. I could have got it in red but absolutely wanted it in Polymetal Gray Metallic. The color, last available in the MX-5 in 22, in my opinion is really beautiful and interesting in the way that it appears somewhat blue in certain lighting conditions and goes so well with the gloss black exterior bits. Does anyone else like this color too?

FWIW, if you are planning on tracking a Miata...if you have the soft-top convertible, you'll need to install a roll bar/cage.

sea glass pearl 2017 prius is better than the similar version of the older prius, they should make a less bold version. its can be somehting iridescent like mazdas glass layer 3d appearance over the paint , transitioning between a little warm white under high intensity light, blue under cooler light color, greeish under warmer light color, . sort of like de tomaso p72 light green . rolls oryce adriatric blue is like a darker version of this, except i think it doesnt transition its all mixed up without the warm white.@@KirkKreifels

That's non-existent in all new cars now. Tire foam canister nowadays. All to save weight for emissions unfortunately. You can also buy run-flat tires but they don't operate as well as conventional.

LOVE the new taillights, and the headlights are a welcome upgrade as well, mainly for the DRL/switchback combo for the turn signal. As a millennial who actually drives a light gold/beige colored car as my daily, the Zircon Sand is a considerably different hue in person and does NOT give off gold vibes (in the light there's like a tinge of green in there). Mazda's new Aero Grey looks interesting, but it's a few years too late, following behind Toyota's "wet concrete" color, or the infamous "nardo gray" by Audi. If I was forced to choose between Zircon Sand and Jet Black or Deep Crystal Blue for instance, the Zircon would take the cake easily. Otherwise my #1 is Polymetal Grey Metallic, which is more pastel bluish in the sunlight. Totally agree on your take of the SP concept though, it's gorgeous, especially that side profile. Excited to see how that design actually materializes in production.

DCB is a nice color, but it certainly isn't very popular. I've actually never seen a Miata in person in that color. It is so strange to me that Mazda clings for dear life to a color that no one buys, but they drop popular colors after just 1 or 2 years.

I love the Miata but I hate that Mazda wont offer many interior color options. Particularly the tan interior with black or red exterior like they did back in 2016.

4:33 So are you asking Mazda to take a page from Porsche in the 90's when they ran w/ those wild outrageous colors for the 911. That was the first time a auto maker aloud for bold color. Id agree. However paint is a huge liability, they only have so much capacity and the way colors are put down they save money in the few colors they all now provide compared to the 70's where you could have 30 or more colors to choose from on the outside and up to 7 interior choices. Now we all get 5 outside colors w/ them all being a lack of color and only one or two real colors with Black being your typical and only choice for Audi. Sans the stitching which gives you a hint of color. Thanks.

I totally agree w/ you. They should ditch the old colors and put down new. The thing is the Miata line is shared with other models who use those boring old person colors. THUS my statement before rings true. Its a cost and ability issue.

AND FINALLY... LOL These automakers buy their color in bulk. They may have an open slot for new color but they still have x gallons to get rid of so this year sticks w/ that new color. Decisions like that are being made all the time.

I agree w/you on the LACK of color. Mazda has mastered red but YELLOW would make this car pop. Can you say BLUE(dark blue) ? I’ll even take orange or green. Something‼️

Mazda is the company that made most or all of the Ford engine heads with multi valves since late 90s. One of the First Ford engine is 4.6 V-8 back in the 90s. Also Mazda made Ford Rangers.

Agree completely about the poor color range. I have a ‘22 soft top in white (6sp) which I think is great, but what about a light green, yellow, or sky blue? I’m also over the Mazda red, I see it everywhere on every model Mazda, it’s a Mazda default color. A fun car shouldn’t have boring BMW colors. In fact it was your review back then that convinced me to buy my Miata so thank you!

It's going to be a collectable version given that it's likely to be the final year ICE MX-5. Still don't get why Mazda is still speccing a bus size steering wheel for such a small and sporty car.

british roadsters have big thin steering and the mx-5 is styled after one, i just wish the finish didnt feel so cheap

At just over $30k, the base model is hardly a cheap bargain. Having owned a Gen 2, I still have that love and lust for pinpoint handling. But I would consider going with the Club Sport at about $35k, OTD close to $40k (Tax, Closing Costs, Interest). No deal. It's to limited for my needs and since it would be my last car, I definitely want at least a Hybrid, so I can pass it down to my grandson, to drive legally when "lCE only" cars will be banned.

Did they fix the manual transmission in this refresh? I was looking at getting a newer gen but was scared away by the tranny issues. Apparently the transmission was designed for the EUs 1.5L and doesn't handle the 2.0 and many destroy themselves in less than 50k miles.

The transmission issues were fixed in the ND2 release. You are OK to go!

I have a deposit on a 2024 model, the complete lack of interesting colours is particularly annoying. I will be wrapping it, but I would really rather having a nice colour as base (coming from a nitro blue RS). Also not a big fan of the massive price jump between base and GT trim for some pretty minor features (atleast here in AUS)

Same... It's a classy look. Let us know what you find out. I would love to get in yellow, but looks like I'll be doing the red. It shows off the black accents (mirrors, roof, skirts, etc.).
