When you’re sitting at little Caesar’s with 5 other dashers plus a few regular customers and they’re all looking upset and in a hurry, I just sit there getting paid and loving life, I don’t even ask about my order, I just wait for it to be loaded in the portal, and slowly get it, slowly walk to my car, getting paid the whole time. It removes stress, I love it.

While your waiting on that order that takes 30 mins I would have already done 2 orders doubling what u could have made while you were just sitting around. If you are getting paid 15hr and you complete the delivery from start to finish and it takes 30 mins your only getting $7.50 NOT the whole $15 because you were not active on that order for 1 hour lol.

As a new dasher, I've done my first few shifts as EBT to learn the ropes a bit. Don't have to worry about the drive-thru line being long (work late nights) can familiarize myself with the area. Plus, that means I'm banking "accepts", so that when I cherry pick or multi-app, AR won't be as much of a concern.

not in my town! A couple weeks ago I did a late night dd shift; the Taco Bell line was ridiculous; I was there about a half hour in line, which was at least twice as long as usual. After a certain time of night; no matter which fast food place it is, we can only use the drive thru.

The LAST choice for earn by time is when it's dead slow! Consider, when it's dead slow, you're far less likely to be standing around the pickup location waiting for your order. Combine that with the pretty much guaranteed horrible tips (the whole reason they added earn by time, IMHO), you're better off being able to pick your deliveries and just take the ones that make sense. OTOH, given certain areas known for the glacial pace of their food prep, earn by time makes some sense. In Cheyenne, WY, anyplace south of the interstate, seems to take forever. Don't know why, but I normally pause deliveries whenever I deliver in that area, because it's more profitable to drive 5 minutes or so north without having to worry than to possibly pick up a "fast food" order that pays garbage, but will make you wait 10-20 minutes for the food.
@YourDriverMike
@YourDriverMike 10 ай бұрын
Good points, even in the video I backtrack a bit because I was thinking well if it's dead slow and you only get paid on active time there WON'T be any active time if you can't get orders! I think our cornerstone multi-apping strategy is the move here. It's always been multi-app first, then multi-niche second if you need to jolt some life into the shift hopefully

I’m thinking I’ll do earn by time in the afternoon when there’s a lot of dashers out, but when I’m dashing on weekday mornings and middle of the day I’ll only do ~$2/mile dashes and min $5 dashes. Hopefully that keeps my acceptance rate up a bit and allows me to be selective when there’s fewer dashers out.

Lets Be Honest - 1 hour is a horrible data point. As you mention day and time matter, also are there events going on...all these variables matter. I've yet to see one CC (content creator) do a week for real sample with this work method. Long story short we need more then 1 hour to get enough data to make a clear judgment call. I would like to see a 20hr to 40hr shift down with paid by time Id like to see if you could make an avg of 17/hr and how much you make at the end. 17/hr for @40/hr is 680 before tax+expenses which isn't awful when you think there are people working in 110F factories for 15/hr (here in Michigan)
@YourDriverMike
@YourDriverMike 10 ай бұрын
True I hear what you're saying, only thing is I try to make 4-5 videos per week. When I have done more longitudinal videos (check out the 1 week driving a Tesla for Uber) I reported data like you're asking. I could do a full 40 hour week on DD but remember I need to film and edit my videos which takes hours so it'd have to be 1 video that week documenting the whole shift or smaller shifts like this which is my normal output as I also like to mix in other apps. Hope that helps, thanks for watching

One of the things I think you skipped or missed was your Door Dash pay, so based off your numbers you average DD pay was $6 which is tripled on what you would have made, Not that you would have take the same orders but if you did that $36 would have been $16 on Earn By order.

Earn by Order seems to work better when more orders and Earn by time when slower. I think it also depends on market. For example if you are more rural vs city it could also make a difference. Burn by order every time. The algorithm will send you some crummy two and $3 orders, but like I experienced this morning, because I'm accepting just about everything I'm also sent to some of the better orders. For example.... I was sent an order for Panera bread that was massive like the size of a catering order for a local insurance business in town. That one order came to $40 even though my prior order was $2 for a Starbucks.

I personally try and do EBT only, and I have found in my market right now. I get about 75% of all customers tipping. Generally the estimated time DD gives, I figure half of that to complete order. 20 to 45 minutes seem to be the idea time. Now I live in more rural area and several times I get an order when I am between 7 and 10 minutes from restaurant.

75% tip frequency even on EBT? That's not bad, how's the average tip amount vs EBO?
@GakDasher
@GakDasher 10 ай бұрын
@YourDriverMike so last 3 weeks where I had both EBT and EBO Orders I made about $3 more on Base pay per order on EBT and about $1 on tips on EBO. Overall I made $1.83 more on average on EBT order vs EBO order. And those 3 weeks was at 79.44% tip rate. 143 of 180 on EBT and 96.47% on EBO 82 of 85. After 2 years my market tips, not all great but great percentage. Not like 180 is a great number but getting almost 80 of orders with tips with no knowledge of it, I would dare to say my market has a high tip rate.

People that doordash need to stop taking orders that are not at least a $1 per mile. As contractors we set our rates and when you keep excepting low paying orders it Diminishers our pay! I don't know if its happening everywhere, but doordash has been cutting pay left and right and keeping part of the tips now. Have you noticed when you get a double up or multiple order it cuts your tips now, or receive an order and it says $6.50+. It no longer gives the exact tip amount and this is do to people taking crap orders. Be smart, Start declining these because it will keep circulating around until the prive has to be raised or not get delivered if everyone would quit excepting them they have to go back to what originally worked. You're not making money unless its at least $1 per mile. Cost of gas is up, wear and tear on your vehicles and everyday Inflation has risen. Just be smart.

With Earn by Time, if you hurry, you'll earn less. Less time. Less money. Earn by Time is only good when, 1. The restaurant is slow, and you have to wait for your food, and 2. Traffic is bad. Curious about the ratings you got with the lower tip orders? Low tips and no tips are the ones that actually rate you from my experience and give you bad ratings. The tippers don't tend to rate much at all and the few of them that do will keep you above the 4.7 you need for top dasher. I have ran by time a couple of times in the beggining but it seems to be counter productive to keeping top dasher status. I usually run by order and try hard to decide from the numbers I see if there is a low tip or no tip by experience and decline. These are the ones who usually rate and also the ones that rate you bad.

Thanks for responding to that! I was really curious. If you do lower tips by time how it affects you. I usually do by order and the low, no tip customers reak havock on the customer ratings. Mostly because most customers don't rate. A one star drops you like 5 points and a 4 1 point I think it is. I do alot of deliveries though per day 20 - 30 usually, so i probably see the system on steroids.

If a customer pays $2.50 for a delivery going anywhere, that is a very high likelihood that the food sat on a shelf at room temperature for an hour. Customer gets cold food, and guess who they blame? I've seen the same order sitting on a shelf for hours quite a few times. I know why, DD knows why, but the cheap customer is still going to blame the EBT driver who finally picks it up.

This method of driving is why my acceptance rate went from 10% to 60%. So many people doing this are taking the no tip orders. Legit, 60% of my offers are worth taking. Edit: I DID decline the first order I got.... and the second, which was the same exact order. I lasted 2 minutes. It was a 20 mile drive round trip and if you expect me to believe their was a tip, then you think I'm a fool. That was my test run. Immediately went to by the order.

60% of the orders are worth taking? What market are you in? So over half of orders are a good dollar:mile? If so that's awesome just want some more context here, thanks for watching

@@YourDriverMike It's a smaller city that is about 17 miles away from a large city with an airport and I aim for $1.75 per mile. My real goal is $2 per mile, but I get a better flow at $1.75 per mile. The biggest context is this. In my area we have drivers who don't like being their own boss. They want to just drive and not worry about tips. They opt for "pay per hour". All the disadvantages of being an employee, none of the benefits. Below is just math, can be ignored. With these people soaking up the bad orders, my good order supply increased 6 fold. Instead of declining 9 out of every 10 orders because 9 out of 10 are bad. (just did the math) 50 out every 54 bad orders that used to get sent my way are now being picked up by "pay per hour" drivers. That leaves 4 out of 54 bad orders I used to get sent still being sent my way in which I have to promptly decline. These people know they are going to get bad orders, but if they can't see it they don't care (I assume?).

Why would you cherry pick when you're doing ebt?? I don't think you fully grasped what it is. You're getting paid for your time, a flat fee so how long it takes is irrelevant. You're on the clock. It doesn't matter if you sit 45 minutes at the restaurant lobby to pick up your order, you're getting paid for it. Actually the slower, the better as you put less miles on your car per hour as that would be the only cost that would eat into your profits so, if you're doing this a gas efficient vehicle is mandatory. I see people in fancy cars or gas guzzlers doing deliveries and then wondering why they are not making any money. If you work an 8 hour shift and make $70-$80 after gas that's no bueno. You should be in the $15-20 per shift range to make the most out of this. Otherwise you'll be working for the gas companies and will take home nothing. It's better to get a $16-$20/hr job at that point. At least it will be steady and you won't have to worry about depreciation.

Will not do EBT…rather work during busy times ….concern I have is the LARGE # of underpay orders I am getting…which drops my AR quickly…ie…$7. For 22 miles…really?? to stay above 50% is now an issue…anyone else see this FUBAR? BS from DD? Over 5400 deliveries…and 5.0 CRating…HELP🤷🏼‍♀️
