GIRRRRL... Today I'm sitting down to test out ALL foreign makeup that I bought while I traveled to Helsinki, Finland a few months ago! I was curious if it would be the same quality I'm used to when I shop in America! This is a first impressions video so you get to see me try it all out for the first time! It's worth mentioning that the makeup in Finland is very sheer because their version of makeup is essentially "no-makeup makeup." They aren't about the full glam life there!

Also nordic countries are on average very subtle and not so flashy so our makeup usually reflects that, we go for more natural looks and natural makeup, Jeffree's makeup is more flashy and colourful (I love it) so the products aren't as sparkly or shiny, nor glittery as his usual products ^^

Most Nordic people are quite fair and most women here up north tend to favour a natural, understated makeup look, so Lumene for one caters to that taste.

Lumene is a very natural makeup brand- they are very Finnish and their aesthetic not really full coverage glam. Finnish people have always appreciated natural looks because of the nature around them, and America has over the year inspired some of the more glam looks you may see today. However, Lumene is very much natural and sheer, glory etc.

I don't think Lumene is for old people. I am 27-year-old and I used Lumene (until I started to use mostly natural cosmetics couple years ago) for my whole life. And lot of my friends use it too. I've never seen it as a "mum" make-up brand. And it's pretty weird to talk about it as a "old people's brand" because all the moms I know use a lot more expensive brands. I think Lumene is just better for people who like that "natural make-up look".

Keklol The quality isn't bad. Every eyeshadow isn't meant to have a shit load of pigment. Lumene is very settle and sheer brand and everything they make are usually for really natural and almost invisible makeup. That is why the word "invisible" was on the blush palet. Eyeshadows are meant to be not that pigmented so the natural makeup look is more easier to do when you don't have to watch out the strong pigment.

This gives a very scarce coverage on how Finns do their make up. Lumene is a product you go to for a singular product or skin care, but I don’t believe I know anybody who’s make up bag mostly consists of their products. Also the fair, ”nordic style” look is not exactly on spot - Finns like colors and aren’t shy to apply heavily, but that’s why mostly everybody buys American (or at least foreign). Lumene probably is our only local beauty brand actually, at least what comes to mind. Guess it’s the branding that makes it interesting, also for foreigners. Thanks for testing those out, next time you get a chance try out their serums and see what you think! ✨

I think that a lot of his concerns comes from a very American point of view cause American makeup is way more dramatic and full coverage than a lot of European makeup is. Coming from a Swede I would say that I see way more Americans have full faces of makeup than Swedish ones. Most of us are usually content with concealer and mascara most of the time

Hasn't been my experience as an American in Sweden- I can't believe how many women have on a full face of makeup and fake eyelashes just during daytime here, working at the grocery, etc. I never saw that back home in the US. Not saying it's bad or anything, just don't have the impression that minimal makeup is more common in Sweden than the US.

@@baxterandcotton Honestly it depends on what part of Sweden you live in. I have lived where most people are not fully swedish and come from all backgrounds and thats where I see full coverage glam looks. While when I lived in the more pure swedish parts of Stockholm most of the girls had really natural to no makeup on. It also depends on the social circles but I mostly see natural looks even when in the center or Stockholm while out with friends.

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world (except where some cultures won’t allow it) some women will wear a full face and some women will wear none at all 🤷🏼‍♀️ literally makes no difference. I wear a full face pretty much every day whereas my sister will very rarely wear make up and only the minimum when she does.

Lumene is a brand that's been around for ages in Finland and everyone's mum and their grandma have used this brand for decades. They rebranded their entire line lately but the brand definitely is still a very Nordic chic with natural beauty and relatively sheer quality. If you want to shine to the moon, this is not your brand for sure.

In case y'all want to know, Lumene is more of a drugstore brand but is still pricey compared to other drugstore brands. Sensai is a high end brand, you know the type you only see in the airport and the high end makeup stores. I'd also like to mention that 38 degree mascara means that it will wash off at 38 degree water! It's a nice mascara if you have sensitive eyes Feel free to ask more stuff! I'd love to help

For those wondering why this comment section if filled with Finns saying "Torilla tavataan". "Torilla tavataan" translates to "let's meet at the market square". If you go on any video on anything positive about Finland, like how Finland is the happiest country in the world, you will find Finns in the comments writing "torilla tavataan". It came from 1995 and 1996 Hockey world championship games. The slogan for the 1995 Finnish team was "lite bättre" which is Swedish for "a little better", and the team won the championship that year. After the game the players were shouting "torilla tavataan" so that people knew to gather at the Helsinki market square for the after party (the next day about 100 000 Finns gathered there). But this isn't how the phrase stuck. At the time that event was referred to as the championship celebration. The next year, in 1996, very unfinnishlike the coatch for the Finnish team said they would win again that year, and as anticipation for that the team used "torilla tavataan" as their slogan. Everybody was shouting it before and during the games. Finns lost, they didn't even make it to the finals, and "torilla tavataan" was born. It means "you did great, but don't let it get to your head, because what ever you do next might be a complete failure".

Honestly, being a bit sentimental but seeing you be you with your fans and being where you are from where you came made me soooo happy. I feel like someone has already mentioned this but lumene is a VEEERY natural looking makeup brand so that’s why everything is not as pigmented as you’d usually like. (Lumene is basically a brand that my mom loves (who’s 40yo) and I use when I just wanna look natural)

i feel like maybe it's sheer because that's the market over there. american makeup styles are very different from other countries (re: it's much more dramatic). they might have a sheer formula because that's what the market demands.

Ceci KittyBoo I think it's because the people who were in the vlog clip watch Jeffree Star and other youtubers so they like their stuff heavy! Plus young people these days don't wear Lumene that much, I think it's more of a "mom make up", very natural, not dramatic.

lumene's makeup is usually very sheer and light because it's designed for nordic skin & the way we use makeup in finland but I'm glad you liked some of it!

Honestly I'm not surprised you didn't like all Lumene products you tried. Lumene has this image of being very neutral, natural beauty etc, so lots of their products are supposed to not be too "extra" if you will. Personally I only use the matte foundation, it's my go to because it's the only one with good formula and a shade that's light enough for my pale face, I love it! Other than that I'd only go for Lumene's skin care so maybe you could try more of that in the future :)

Just FYI - Natural beauty (sheer, easy, natural glow, hustle free, no makeup makeup) is kinda the thing here in the Nordics :) But full makeup glam has definitely entered the Nordics and more and more (specially younger gens) are more used to it nowadays.

I am from Scandinavia and the make up here usually is not that crazy. Lumene brand is equivalent to Lancome in terms of being "natural". It has great ingredients however and it is a great brand in terms of quality products at an affordable price.

They used to sell it in CVS US skincare and the makeup, I really love the brand. I will probably just order some stuff online now. I also have Jeffree Star products, I mix it up. They added stuff for deeper skin tone I noticed, so I want to try it out.

Lumene is one of my favourite brands for base products, their CC cream is hands down the BEST foundation I have ever tried. It's more of a medium coverage and doesn't set 100% matte, but that's perfect for Nordic winter weather.

Lumene is made for Finnish people and not that many people here are that into intense makeup. That’s why some of the makeup is not that intense.
