Special rules don’t show who’s better or what style is better. The rules should simply be, takedowns legal, submissions legal, maybe a time limit but definitely no stalling or passivity. Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu are arts that fall under the umbrella of grappling. The reason Jiu Jitsu is better as a combat art is because the end goal is submission which ends the fight. In a life and death combative situation you definitely want more than a hold or a pin in your arsenal. Choking a person unconscious or breaking a limb is pretty effective

In the modern world that's true. But let's not forget that in traditional wrestling arts (BOTH Greco-Roman styles as well as jiu-jitsu/judo, actually) immobilization was a win because it signified that in a real fight the immobilized person was going to get stabbed to death. That was actually the *main* way to kill a fully armored knight in medieval fights.

if you can win by takedown immediately (not just points) the wrestler is basically always going to have the huge advantage. A better compromise would be winning by pin or sub, judo-style. Grappling is any style of fighting where your main weapon is grabbing and controlling your opponent. All grappling styles are just different kind of wrestling. Historically, and even today in some places, wrestling can be done with belts and jackets like in BJJ. Wrestling has also used submission holds to force someone to give up the pin. Such holds were limited by rules for safety over time, but that is no different from BJJ competitions. BJJ isn't really a style anymore. Especially with no-gi competitions, wrestling has become critical for competitive BJJ. Holds now seen as BJJ holds, especially leg locks and arm locks like the double and top wrist lock, also exist in Judo and wrestling. BJJ is willing to take everything and I corporate it into its style, while erasing where it came from and claiming it for itself. If everything can be BJJ, that's the same as nothing being BJJ.

I think the answer is both. Wrestling is the best at controlling their opponent's body but since there are no submissions, they can't finish. So you take wrestling to control the opponent and BJJ to finish them and you have the perfect art.

To me, wrestling is just a form of grappling, just like jiu-jitsu is a form of grappling. If you think about it, it's like saying which is better, Ford or Chevy. There are definitely some people who will defend to the death one being better than the other, but ultimately if you think about it, they are both cars and will both get you from point A to point B.

you can't please both either the wrestler learns more submissions and defense. by not allowing guard pulling (or sitting down is negative points) or leglocks you're just dilluting the sport. This might sound crazy but if you make takedowns score more (3? Pins 4 points) than the position scores (pass guard, mount and back takes) and heres the crazy part... submissions could score (5?) with a limit to 3 per match then you automatically win.

After 30 years of Wrestling 1. Sambo 2. Folk 3. Greco 4. Free 5. Catch Judo BJJ Sub Grappling I have the ideal Rule Set 1. All slams are counted. All take Downs are counted. Feet to back 4 Ippon 4 Wazi Ari 2 All others no score If you pull gaurd your opponent can slam, no spiking on top of head. If you jump gaurd… you can be slammed out of it or…. Your opponent can walk you out of bounds. You can try to grapple Out of it but if are walked out without your feet touching the ground -1 If you fail to turn a jump Gaurd into a positive position and you drop Off.. -2 Pins are Judo style. If you can pin your opponent for 15 seconds with no escape or advance-2. 30 seconds win… Mount and back tales are 2 points. Escapes are 2 points. Subs All except small Joint manipulation. First to 15…. More Wrestlers from the Greco world and Judo players will come to compete. In war you don’t drop to your ass.. in the street I’d you butt scoot your ass will hurt…

I guess to each his own, but for me, the ultimate ruleset was NHB. In terms of competition, for me, the whole point to whatever style you practice -- wrestling, jiu-jitsu, karate, boxing, muay thai, etc. -- is to be maximally effective in a one-on-one, empty-hand, who's-the-man fight to the finish (incapacitation of opponent) with referee interference, no rounds, and no time limits. So, whatever style, set of techniques, approach -- whatever you want to call it -- that is the best in true NHB, is the best, period.
