Full flight of Southwest Airlines flight 12 service from Dallas Love Field to Lubbock, Texas. Aircraft was a 24.5 year old 737-500 but still flew like new. This aircraft is now retired. Some pretty good turbulence and wing flex while descending between the Guthrie and Dickens area. Took a different approach as we flew north of the LBB and turned back into RWY 8. Usually ATC has you go south of the airport. RWY's 17R and 35L were closed due to construction. Overall a short but very good flight. I was sitting in seat 16F. Video filmed by GoPro Hero 3 White Edition.
Aircraft: N520SW (Retired on September 5th 2016)

Your welcome! Don't be afraid to fly. It is one of the safest ways to travel today. Flying is an awesome expierence, at least to me. It's one of those things that you won't know what it's like until you try it. I would recommend sitting near a window, just because of the awesome view that you will have! Let me know how your flight goes and safe travels!

CessnaN64107 sorry for the late reply lol. The flights were AMAZING. The take offs were a little rough for me but once I realized, hey i'm perfectly safe I really started to enjoy it. :)

No worries. It's a pretty awesome expierence isn't it! I'm glad you enjoyed flying. The fun part is when you get into turbulence, at least it is for me lol. It's funny to watch people freak out when a plane is flying through turbulence. I just start to laugh at them because I know that turbulence will not bring down an aircraft. But if you have any questions about flying let me know and I can most likely answer any questions you got for me. Then once you get used to it you can start to film flights and put them on KZfaq like myself and thousands of others do!

Awesome landing into Lubbock! I've never landed like that before coming in that direction. Usually, if planes land onto 8, they circle around the Skyline and Loop 289 and you see an aerial view of Lubbock. The last time I landed on 8 was years ago, like 12-13 years ago, when we used to fly from El Paso or if we had a layover in Albuquerque. The last time I landed on 35L was in Spring 2008. Most of the time, it's always a 26 landing and always an 8 takeoff. However, I think you should have sat on the other side, because it appears you flew right over Ransom Canyon and you could have gotten a spectacular view of it. It's rare to land like that coming from Dallas. Most of the time, you are parallel to Lubbock and you land on 26. When I fly in from Phoenix, it will be hard to decide where to sit, because I am noticing that flight lands on 26 sometimes and circles around Lubbock. It takes off most of the time on 26 but sometimes on 8.

Thanks, my first time landing like this too. The only time I've flown that approach, we landed on 17R coming from Austin. I was debating on what side to sit on the entire layover we had in Dallas. I was looking at the approach patterns of all the rest of the united and american eagle flights and it had shown they flew south of the city and then circled back north to RWY 8. So I decided if that is what the incoming aircraft to LBB are doing then we are most likely going to do that too. But it was my luck that we went to the north. If we flew south of the city then I think I would have been able to see Ransom and the entire city of Lubbock which would have been pretty cool. Still bummed that we didn't go the southern route. The only reason we landed on RWY 8 is because the winds were pretty strong out of the east. If I were you, I would sit on the right side of the aircraft (co-pilot side). Since you are coming from phoenix, you will most likely make a straight in approach to 8. However if you don't then you will still get to see most of the city and probably Ransom canyon if you go south of the airport. If you go north then you will still get to see most of the city. When you circle back, which will be around Idalou, you won't get to see much sitting on the left hand side as you would the right before you make the turn back to RWY 26. IMO sit on the right hand side of the aircraft and hope for the best. Also a few weeks before the flight, get on flightaware.com and check out the approaches the flights from phoenix have been taking. You can make a pretty good judgement from what they are doing is most likely what your aircraft will be doing. Thats if there isn't any weather the day you fly. If you get a chance, ask the captain before the flight. That will be your best shot to get a good video and maybe you could ask to switch seats with someone if you happen to be on the wrong side of the aircraft.

How can you talk to the captain before the flight? I thought they don't let you in the cockpit. I've never tried it, but I can give it a try. I use flightaware and it has worked. El Paso is the same as Lubbock. You see planes landing on 4 and 8R, but then you end up landing on 22 or 26L. Both cities are unpredictable. Now in Tucson where I relocated to, there is only 1 RWY and I've seen most planes make the same approach so far. Landing in Tucson looks really cool. I've seen previous videos and you fly really close to the mountains and to the city.

When you are boarding the plane, ask the flight attendant if you can get a tour of the cockpit (always worked when I was little). Usually the captain or first officer are in there doing their pre flight checks and plugging in the route to the aircraft's computer. Ask them what route we are taking into lubbock. They probably won't know the runway but it's a safe bet that they can tell you what approach and runway you will be landing on. I remember a few years back flying from LBB to AUS, I got to select which RWY we got to take off on. I'll never forget that moment. But anywho, just ask the captain about the route that you will be flying.

No way! You got to choose which RWY to take off from? That is so cool. I might try asking the captain next time I fly.

Southwest had their final revenue flight with the 500 series on September 5th 2016 from El Paso to Love Field. Not exactly sure when the 300's went out but you can google when they retired them if you want the specific date. Miss these old birds for sure.

American Airlines changed my flights. I now go through Dallas on the way to, but still Phoenix on the way back. We will still be able to meet, since they only pushed my flight 5 minutes on the way back. I will be going on a 737-800 from TUS-DFW. I chose seat 9A. Is that a good seat?
@CessnaN64107
@CessnaN64107 8 жыл бұрын
With row 9, you are going to see more of the wing than anything. Idk If you are going to see any of the ground or anything while on approach. See if you could get any seats in rows between 4-8 to get the best shot out of the front of the wing. Just my opinion. My full flight from at Louis was in row 4. But if you can't find any seats in those rows you should get some decent video in that seat. Sitting in 9A you should see terminals B and D at DFW.
@SkyvatorProductions
@SkyvatorProductions 8 жыл бұрын
It shows on the seating chart that 9A is in front of the wing.
@CessnaN64107

+skyvator Hmmm, well seating configurations are different for all airlines. Now remember with the front of the wing, the engine will hang about 5-8 feet in front of the wing blocking some of your view. Idk if you want that but you should get some good video of the reversers on the engine when landing

The only closest front seat available was 9A. I could look on YT and see if anyone sat in that seat on AA and then see how it looks.
