In our house. Step and Half were dirty words. My dad WAS my dad. My baby siblings were my siblings. It was so wonderful to here you say "Our". When she grows up that will mean more to her then anything in the world.

I'm just doing chores this morning, letting YT play in the background, when this old Garden Tour started to play. 💕 As a years-long subscriber (has it really been so long already..?), this video brought me right back to a beautiful time in my life, a segment in time that didn't seem to feel quite so stressful as it does now -- of course, "hindsight is 20/20". 😅 I do miss this old garden of yours -- the bit of nostalgia it brings gives my heart such peace and rest -- but being witness to all you've achieved is an honor and a privilege, and continually refreshes my wells of hope. Thank you for giving me a Refuge. ✨💕

I know nothing about growing potatoes but do every chance I get because they are so fun. If you haven’t planted sweet potatoes you should try! Those are even more awesome. I was told you could leave them and just store them in the bed, which I did with my sweet potatoes. They were massive!

My dear most of us don't know what we are doing in our gardens, I am a master gardener with years of gardening in a warmer climate. I moved to a coastal cooler climate at the lower Pacific Northwest where the Redwoods meet the Ocean so I had to learn all over again. Through trial and error we learn and then we get a stranger than the normal season and it throws us off but we continue to grow and learn. This is my first summer growing potatoes, yams, garlic, and onion and I am like a new gardener all over again, it just shows me that I will never know it all and that is exciting to me, the garden continues to teach me. I had some seed packets give me something different than what was listed, my cantaloupes turned out to be butternut squash and my snow peas were instead the pea shelling Wando and my Dill package gave me fennel. What are the odds of that many seed packages giving me something different! I needed my dill to be Dill for pickle making so I bought another package of Dill from a different seed company and now my Dill is Dill, so funny how that happens. Some seeds I bought last year were the same ( not what they said on package but interesting) . It's so true I'm always learning but I don't mind the struggles because it's just so enjoyable. I just keep trying.

I am originally from West TN. I love watching your videos! The struggles of gardening in the South are real! I remember the first time I grew potatoes, I only harvested enough for a couple of meals because I was too impatient! Keep growing, sweet girl, you have the gift!

I let my lettuce go to seed and just let them fall wherever they want to. I get really early lettuce that starts at its optimal time. The heads grow much bigger, quicker than ones started from saved seeds. I once had a huge head of lettuce grow in a crack in the driveway!

i used to start lettuce indoors but with lackluster results. Now I just drop the seed in at the end of the season or very early in the spring outsidie.

Mint water reminded me that I had an amazing sweet basil that was going gangbusters, one day I jammed a stalk with about a dozen leaves into my water bottle and it was delicious. Made the water taste bright and sweet while adding a cooling flavor, I just topped the water off all day and 4 liters later it was still tasty. Definitely a fan of adding some fresh soft herbs into my water, anything that makes the water more attractive than sweet and caffeine beverages, especially on the ridiculously hot days... Hope your 2020 garden is going well.

I have watched about a dozen of your videos, and have been enjoying them a great deal. I am old, but still a relatively new gardener, still exploring new ventures and learning every day. I share your willingness to sometimes experiment, or let a "mistake" progress to see what it results in. I've grown some heirloom tomatoes for about 10 years, and they are my favorite part of my gardening! I, too, have a tomato sandwich every day, (often two), until there are no more to pick. Jerry Duncan in his comment below describes well why we like to watch your videos. You offer much more than gardening tips, You are a loving, caring human being, a REAL person, who tends and cares for our Earth Mother, as should we all. Thank you!

I experiment every year with new ideas in the garden. It keeps me interested and my mind active. I believe that nature is God's way of teaching us. My garden is an art studio and a laboratory. It feeds both my body and spirit.

I don't know if someone else has suggested this, but here are the tips we used last year and we got a good harvest! Cut your seed potato (or potatoes) into pieces with 2 eyes on each piece, then space them out in your box. You'll get a few potato plants that way. Burry them every few weeks as they grow - every time you burry the plant, they shoot off new roots that create new potatoes! Don't burry them completely. Leave a few inches of the plant sticking out. Harvest when the plant is completely dead, not only "dying off". Good luck next year!

Oh my-lanta that litter box problem is so relatable. We started growing as much as possible through chicken wire to avoid it, but we still have to chase the cats out of the beds at least once a day.

I'm also in AR. Union County. Grew up here then left to show dogs in TX in 1980. I'm back home in AR now after 40 years in TX showing, grooming, saving dogs. I was also a state approved grooming school. Now I'm retired and building a tiny house in the woods that will be surrounded by food, flowers and herbs. I love your energy and beautiful space.

I simply love watching your videos. I am in the UK and have just bought a new home with enough room to grow enough for us to get close to being self sufficient on seasonal veg. The whole place is grass at the moment though so the first stage is clearing the ground of the many many many small ornamental trees that were planted here so I can make veg beds in the full sun at the back of my house. We will be replacing the ornamental trees with fruit trees and edible hedges. Your videos are a real inspiration, you are a window into another world that i am never going to be able to visit but somehow the things you talk about have a real resonance with me xxx

Save your egg shells then dry in the oven at 225 degs run them through the coffee grinder. Then your have calcium powder for your garden.

Boiled eggs use 'em dried crushed to ring around my tomatoes deter slugs.

Better yet add those shells to brown rice vinegar and let it bubble till it stops and that liquid is instantly available calcium. Dr. Cho Korean natural farming recipe. That book will save you money on plant food and help you learn to ferment plant and fruit juice for soil food.

Sarah Larson you can download the pdf Korean natural farming by Dr. Cho online it goes more in depth on fermenting plants and eggshells and fish for fertilizer. I’m not 100% sure about cider vinager but I imagine it would as it’s an acid. The calcium carbonate needs the acid to break down and balance the PH which I think cider vs rice vinager would both do the same thing.

Here in England runner beans are pretty much a staple for all growers (probably, as you say because of our cooler temps here) however, they're VERY heavy feeders they like A LOT of constant water - just an idea to maybe get them going again. P.s I love your garden tours it's my weekly treat

Love your video! Makes me realize we're all on a learning curve . I'm growing potatoes in Tucson, AZ this spring for the first time and I don't know how they will turn out. We all experiment sometimes and our plants forgive us anyway. Blessings!

Good tip to add calcium to any plant indoor and outdoor. Dissolve a quarter cup of any type of milk in 4 litres of water. Add one cup of solution to a mature plant every 3-4 weeks, smaller plants a bit less. Try this for robust foliage, flowers and fruit, you will love what you see!

One of my first years planting tomatoes, my cherry tomatoes grew to the top of the six foot stakes and about three or four feet of plant flopped over. I had so many cherry tomatoes that I used them to make ketchup! This was way before food processors and immersion blenders, so I had to peel all of those boogers!

Enjoyable video. Watch this video, 337 pounds of potatoes! Planted in a big row of deep hay and revered watered. Just laid out in the hay and covered with more hay. So easy to harvest, just move the hay back. This was their first time planting potatoes, I think and first time using the Ruth Stout method which seems to work best for them. I can't wait to try this, myself as I've never had much luck with potatoes or onions.

have you ever grown a 3 sister garden ??? they are amazing so in the middle is a corn stalk then a pole bean then a squash the corn grows tall the beans use the corn stalk to climb up it then the squash grows on the ground so 3 tier garden in one they are great to grow for the kids first time gardening hugssssss from Ontario Canada

I enjoyed your garden walk. I Love that you take a Common sense attitude about Hybrid vs Heirloom. I too have have saving Heirloom seeds for 15 years and LOVE them. However a Hybrid is NOT a GMO. There is so much ignorance about Hybrids. I have created my own Hybrids/Future Heirloom as said. I love taking the treats of Great plants and blending them.

Hi I just found your channel and I love it. For a person that says you don't know what your doing, you sound very knowledgeable. I love watching you especially watching you get excited over the potatoes. We bought property near Bull Shoals and the ground is very rocky so we are in the process of building raised beds to get started. Maybe in a lil while, mine will look like yours.
