Hell N Degenerates What did you expect though? For David to pull out documents detailing Hillary Clinton’s participation in the destabilization of Libya and support for autocratic regimes in the Middle East. What did you expect he’s a professional he keeps his thoughts to himself and knows how to propel himself, this is exactly why celebrities are famous and crack pot conspiracy theorists and political provocateurs are not famous ( though as of 2020 the two worlds don’t seem to be as distant)

"People went up in a rocket, looked out of the window, and took a bloody photo." I happened to be at our local hardware store on the day when some rocket or other had been launched to the Space Station or something, and the staff at the customer service desk were laughing about how stupid people were to believe it had actually happened, because it was "obvious" that rockets can't work in a vacuum. They need something to push on, said these morons. Having spent a 40-year career in aerospace, I was tempted to try and explain to them that rockets actually work a little better in a vacuum because there's no atmospheric back-pressure for the escaping exhaust gases to contend with, but it's utterly pointless to put science up against their "common sense" logic, so I just left it alone. "Only a fool rises to a fool's argument" as they say. Unfortunately David Mitchell's very accurate argument is a non-starter with these kinds of people, because they refuse to accept that anyone CAN go up in a rocket to take any such photo from far enough away to clearly show a full ball shape.
@h0lly_blue
@h0lly_blue 3 жыл бұрын
my question is: when the fuck are we actually going to send one of these nutters up in a rocket with a camera just so they can see for themselves? but I fear as though if that person comes back and is like "oh shit it's real" people won't believe them and cast them out as some brainwashed loony (as if they aren't already) I really think and hope that this is all one big ruse, and these people don't really believe the things they say, it's just that they've attracted rather off-kilter people who genuinely _do_ think this way and have decided that it's probably too late to call things off now so they're just rolling with it god I hate people sometimes

This is an old comment, so sorry to reply to it, but this had me thinking I don't really know how rocket propulsion works. Which is a gap in my knowledge I wasn't really aware of. I understand how propellers drag airplanes forwards, but what are the driving forces with jet/rocket propulsion? Do you mind explaining, in perhaps just slightly more complicated than laymen terms? Asked under the excuse of 'there are no dumb questions' :)
@MrBabylon
@MrBabylon Жыл бұрын
@@idde4345 the simplest explanation would probably be Newton's 3rd law of motion, for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction, rockets burn fuel and expel the explosive gases out the back which results in a push forwards. Even without a rocket, let's say you were in a space suite holding a bowling ball, if you pushed that ball and let it go in a specific direction you would feel a force pushing you in the opposite direction, equal to the momentum of the ball. In fact with all our technology we still haven't discovered a method of propulsion that doesn't involve throwing something backwards very fast!
@idde4345
@idde4345 Жыл бұрын
@@MrBabylon thanks for the reply! So basically it's explosions in the engine 'pushing' against the engine/rocket itself? Also, you could theoretically traverse the universe throwing bowling balls? Though it would probably be a good idea to escape the Earth's gravitational pull first.
