Full House Over Flush Over Straight! SEVEN Players FIGHT For All This Cash

Doug Polk Poker

Doug Polk Poker

7 жыл бұрын

The high stakes action ensues on Live at the Bike, as Doug contests a big pot against seven other players! It may seem nice to hit the nut straight on the turn, but the hand doesn't play itself like you might think. There are some tricky decisions in this hand, especially on a paired board with a possible flush! The river card is the ultimate action generator! What should these players do?
As always, Doug breaks down each street of action. Poker Hands is the show where Doug analyzes live poker hands from tv poker shows such as Poker After Dark, the World Series of Poker (WSOP), EPT (European Poker Tour), High Stakes Poker, the Aussie Millions, WPT (World Poker Tour) the Big One For One Drop, and the PCA (Pokerstars Carribean Adventure). He especially enjoys reviewing hands by popular high stakes pros like Viktor "Isildur" Blom, Ike Haxton, Dan Cates (Jungleman), Tom "Durrrr" Dwan, Phil Ivey, and OtB_RedBaron.

Hey Doug do us all a favor and don't change a thing. Your channel is the best one out there, and I know that because I watch them all regularly. If the haters knew how much PERTINENT information you give in comparison they would thank you for it. I have several friends that are pros and they won't share anything about how they play even with their best friends. Just shows how much confidence you have in your own game. Thanks again for bringing us real analysis.

Excellent poker commentary, as usual, arguably the best poker commentator alive, one of the very few world class players to do commentary at all, let alone lay out his entire thought process and explain concepts in easy to understand manner, not to mention doing all that for free, or at least there's no fees for the viewers. Watching Doug Polk's videos beats reading any poker book for educational value and it's a lot more fun.

One way to look at it is that in hindsight, Doug lost the minimum there, as there was zero chance that the set of sixes was folding on the turn. So his decision to slow play ended up being good in a way.

In the BB you could probably have the offsuit combos aswell. So I would flat the combos with a heart or a club and raise the ones without. Makes it a little less likely that someone has the draw and that it comes in.
@ayyo1579
@ayyo1579 5 жыл бұрын
@Troll Em' All - yup 54hh and 54cc are the best two combos to flat. After that we have another 10 combos with at least 1 heart or club that we can pick from to flat if we want more flats. 54dd and 54ss should be raises without question.

Yo, Doug! Nice lay down, brother. I'm not sure I would have had the balls to both check (not raise) the turn AND THEN fold the river with what you had, but this is definitely a good hand to analyze with the double flush and boat draw vs. straight. Near perfect play from you on a hand that could have killed your stack. GG and keep up the vids. @dcoriginal8746
@dcoriginal8746 5 жыл бұрын
Kind of splitting hairs, but... Straight flush over straight flush. Nobody is ever folding in a zillion simulations. Nobody. The lower end loses his stack every time (and hopefully there’s a bad beat jackpot coming for him). Quads over Quads? It would take a mind reader to fold there - if you fold quads you should just never be allowed in any card game including Uno for the rest of your life. High end of the flush fold to a possible straight flush? If you fold to a “possible” straight flush, you are probably the type who’s afraid of being bitten by a “possible” unicorn. You just lose and reload or go home. Set over set? I’ve never been able to do it, but I’ve seen it done and it seems much more possible. If you ever see a straight flush, quads or a nut flush fold on an unpaired board please post that person’s name and favorite card room?

@davefoc
@davefoc 5 жыл бұрын
I thought so as well, but I'm not sure. I think it might be possible to come up with some sort of analytical answer. You're probably facing some combination of trips, flush and straight draws. How often do each of those holdings fold and how often do you beat them if they stick around? Maybe somebody will stop by that feels like putting pencil to paper to come up with some sort of quantitative answer.

Hey Doug, great stuff once again. A question about a point you did not comment Do you feel like in Fee´s shoes there is any point leading the flop considering no one is likely to cbet bluff that board 7 way, you'd charge draws and QJ type hands that might not bet the flop themselves to get some money in, balancing it out with some AQ and nut flush draws, Or do you feel like you are never leading anything (your classic "and he checks as he should with all of his hands"), since you'd isolate yourself against the strongest hands of the opponents ranges? Also, plz share your thoughts about donkleading multiway pots with a wide variety of hands, rather deep let's say Cheers and keep up the good work

Really liked your decision here to flat on 4th st, as it disguises the strength of your hand and a bet or raise won't fold out the stronger draws. It saves money in the end, while giving you nice potential for disguised risk free value on the river...Perhaps more of an old school approach as in a conservative PLO line?...I really dig the line Doug, nice 1...

Hey +Doug Polk Poker I have a question: Do you think it is better to find a poker style that you are comfortable with such as a loose agro player or a nit or maybe something like for example: a player that likes to build a table image of never bluffing and then randomly throw out bluffs so that he has less likely hood of getting called(me)? Or is it better to not really have any "style" and try to be as unpredictable as possible so as to not give off any tells, and keep your opponent guessing so that they are never in a position where they say something like "oh he raised me x on the turn" and then immediately fold.

Middle pos bets i raise, small blind raises to 200. Middle folds i tank and call. River is a spade. Started off with 1k. SB jams i think for a bit and call. SB had A2 spades. Trapper gets trapped! I go on tilt, recognized it as I'm pulling out another buy in, and leave. I grumble to myself as i go and buy a six pack of beer. Then after a few I'm happy!

Did the guy with the boat choose to call instead of raising to induce the BB to call or was he actually worried about Q7, 76, 77 (QQ even though very unlikely) ?
