We are at quarters of Seattle Fire Department Station 2, which houses Engine 2, Ladder 4, Aid 2, and Aid 4 (part-time staffed), where we see Engine 2, Ladder 4, and Aid 2 as they respond to a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of Denny Way and Fairview Avenue. Apparently, it was a hit and run accident which involved a couple of SUV's, one which ended up being turned on its side, the other being completely smashed in. We'll see the scene of this wreck in the next video. Engine 2 is a 2015 Pierce Arrow XT. Tiller Ladder 4 is a 2017 Pierce Arrow XT with a 100 foot mid mount stick. Aid Car 2 is a Ford F450 Super Duty. Engine 25, Battalion 2, and Aid 25 also responded to this call, as did the SPD. Enjoy the view of the response, as well as the tones. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on December 25th, 2019.

The ladder truck, in the case of Seattle and New York City, carries the rest of the gear required for accidents, such as cribbing, the Hurst tool (spreaders and cutters) (or the HURST tool’s electric counterpart), and sheets to protect victims when glass breaks as well as seatbelt cutters to cut seatbelts and free trapped victims.

@@Firebuff101 I see the pros of a Tiller compared to a standard rear/mid-mount in the USA, however many modern German rear-mount Tower Ladders come with all-wheel steering, without the need of a 2nd operator steering the rear axle. They can perform the same moves like a Tiller Ladder; basically the difference is that the drive axle of the Tiller isn't steered, while our Tower Ladders have in fact all-wheel steering. I don't have precise numbers of the Tillers to compare but it indeed seems like they are roughly twice as long as 105' Tower Ladders here, but on the other side they also carry more equipment than ours do

Greg Dore Just saw this a week or two ago on Cozy TV (Hulu Live). Medic One was stationed at the fire station that housed Engine 10 and Ladder 1 (or Engine 1, Ladder 10- can’t remember off the top of my head). That post series movie of the week event was titled “Most Dangerous Passage”. It was the San Francisco parametric ambulances that were stationed at the hospital because at the time, the EMS service was run by the San Francisco Department of Health, not the SFFD (which appears to have changed since 1979). Those post series movie of the week events were, “What’s a Nice Girl Like You...” and “The Convention”.

Waste of resources sending an aerial to an RTC. In the UK all pumps are now multi purpose rescue pumps. The turn out would be one or two pumps depending on first reports. The ambulance service would send a rapid response paramedic car followed by one or more ambulances. Here on Merseyside, depending on the severity, the special rescue team would be despatched, one pump with additional rescue kit and a pod carrier with heavy duty equipment.
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 4 жыл бұрын
you call it a waste or resources without knowing how the caller described the scneario? Interesting ... Here in my area traffic accidents might be handeled by an ALS Emergency Ambulance alone, or besides sveral EMS units the FD would roll out with a convoy of apparatus ... simply depends on how the scenario was described to the dispatch center. Simply keep in mind that apparatus are layed out differently in the USA and Europe in general ... American Aerials usually carry more equipment than European ones, so it's just natural that they are also dispatched to calls where in Europe most departments wouldn't send an Aerial.

@jaysmith1408
@jaysmith1408 4 жыл бұрын
Destiny Gaming it’s about turning radius. A straight frame aerial carrying the same ladder, must, by obvious geometry, be at least that long anyways. The tractor trailer is a bit longer due to the fifth wheel, and tillermans cab, but makes up for it by being able to (with enough room) turn completely around its rearmost axle. And that’s the same with any conventional tractor trailer. They also lose some maneuverability with the tandem axle tractor. However once you add in the ability of the trailer to steer itself, it can actually get in tighter spaces than a straight frame can. Any straight vehicle off tracks from the path of the steer tyres to the rear tyres. A conventional tractor trailer off tracks considerably. Add in rear steer, that off tracking is almost completely removed. Of course now with your trailer with a mind of its own, it drives very peculiarly, but they have their advantages. Now as mentioned earlier, the tandem axle tractor is added for weight distribution. With advances in ladder, suspension, and steering technology, the advantages are shrinking, you used to have to get a 100’ aerial with tandem axles, with drove like (as it was the exact same size as) a motor coach. Now with single axle straight frames, many departments (like our neighbours) have since retired them.
@ritirons2726
@ritirons2726 3 жыл бұрын
There is nothing “outdated” about tractor drawn aerials and they have actually been making a very big resurgence over the past 10 years or so due to a number of factors, but primarily for the large amount of equipment that can be carried. In departments that offer multiple services such as vehicle rescue and/or light technical rescue the amount of storage space tillers offer can not be matched. They also have a much larger compliment of ground ladders than most mid or rear mount aerials. The maneuverability of the tiller is far greater than straight frame aerials as well. Tillers will out perform any straight frame aerial when it comes to maneuvering especially in tight streets and congested neighborhoods. You’d never pull off that turn with a straight frame aerial, the companies would need to take alternate response routes and possibly extending their response times slightly. The cost for a tiller is now equal to, and in some cases, even less than a typical rear mount tower ladder so since the price tag is basically equal now only adds to the resurgence. If anything the tiller is just as cutting edge as any new mid or rear mount, straight frame aerial.
