Thank you for your service Michael! This was around the time that my 2nd cousin was killed in the same way he was injured! I think there were four in the Hum-vee and 2 or 3 walking along beside it when they hit an IED. My 1st cousin (his dad) said he had just spoken to him the night before and he told him that things had really escalated fast! He asked him was he ready to go and he said he wasn't worried about anything. He was killed the next day if I'm not mistaken. His name was Capt. Mark Garner from State Road, N.C. He was a West Point graduate and loved being in the Army!

My son was wounded by a suicide bomber in dyalla in December of 08. 1 day before his 18th bitlrthday. This blast wounded 11 Americans. 1 kia. Killed 11 Iraqis. And wounded many more. Glad to see ya survived. Thank you for your service.

this is a great video. i want to write about some of this stuff and i also grew up on bases. helps me understand myself. I felt that way when i got sick, too. Your identity changes. People respond to you differently. You have to learn to handle things like that ... depression is common because it can be situationally-induced. Hopelessness is one of the hardest parts of it to deal with. It helps to have things to look forward to. The smallest things can help.

It's a honor to have a man like this serve for the USA. Much love from the quad cities ..

God bless this man and the Fallen.. All the stories I've heard from around that time say it was some of the worst years of fighting in the war. Our troops and their families deserve the world for what they endure.

I remember between 05 to 08 there was a page in Army Times and Stars and Stripes that always had pictures of the latest casualties. Sometimes it was like two or three pages long. Harsh times.

damn he got nice physical therapy ... mine had me walk in the hallway with a walker ... I would've liked to start just walking to my hospital room door ... not being wheeled somewhere to walk ... mentally it was draining. I cried once and I don't remember doing the hallway so much after that. This was in 1999 at walter reed. They improved a lot with PT in 9 years. You're welcome for crying because it made the PT people think of what would be better for the next patients. I didn't even cry because it hurt. The most severe pain was gone. I cried because I failed. I was too weak. At a certain point with autoimmune damage your muscles just give out. No other way to describe it. You just can't do it. Do this day I need modified exercises. Can't do a real pushup. Have to do inclined ones.

The interesting thing is that many people would like to be able to help others, but just like he said there are too many people living paycheck to paycheck and they are just getting by, especially in these days of covid and inflation.
