Because it was, it really was. There will never be another duo quite as dynamic as this one was, on and off the court, especially when you consider this was maybe the very last great dynasty in sports before the mass media hype machine era just took over sports like it does today. I mean everything about this dynasty, both its highs and lows, felt genuinely real and personal.

Man, I did security for Kobe during his trial. I had had just left MARSOC and a buddy who owned a security company offered me a job. About 18 months after, during his trial, he needed full time security. I refuse to make judgments on what happened, I wasn’t there, but Kobe treated me with great respect when I was with him. He was funny, intelligent, and would have been a great soldier if he wasn’t so damn tall. I never got to meet Shaq. At that point, the rivalry was in full swing. Although, outside of the press, I never heard him say a bad thing about Shaq. He dubbed me the “White Death”, because he was fascinated by my military career as an operator. One night he made me spend hours making drawings of how our team would have breached and cleared the home he was renting. Literally spent 3 hours drawing maps and explaining to him how we kept each other safe. It was never the killing aspect he wanted to know about, it was always the team aspect.

This interview truly highlights Kobes ability to read people & his emotional intelligence.. probably gained from years spent people watching when feeling isolated as a child.. It also shows what an incredible coach he could of been in his later years, his ability to simply break down mistakes they made in games years ago is outstanding. RIP the black mamba 🖤

I love the fact that Kobe said @ 29:30-29:45 he acknowledges he wanted to be hated. There is a huge difference in him and Lebron and that is one major difference is he is comfortable making others uncomfortable and being disliked. Just that sink in , this man is a legend. Also, think of all those dynasties he mentioned of the 80's Lakers and 90's Bulls. He is the only one to win championships with two different types of teams. That Lakers team was pretty much a unit and the Bulls for the most part were the same key players. Kobe and Shaq 2000-2003 team totally different than the 2009-2010 Lake show.

@@aliyaj1018 Exactly. The issue started when Kobe Bryant tossed a bloody shirt at a police officer and said, "Shaq..." in the middle of the summer in Colorado just before a surgery he didn't even tell his team about. Lakers screwed themselves out of Shaq's last championship and Lebron. All for two GD rings in 12 years just so Kobe could say "I got two on my own!" That's great. You could have had one just with old Shaq and then picked up Lebron in 2010 for another four. I will never for the life of me understand how LA thought they won from that deal. Old-ass Shaq 34-year-old Shaq got one just by himself. Prime Kobe heads into a 12-year span and gets 2. Okay, that's 1 more than Shaq, congratulations, but in the meantime, Kobe's contract prevented them from picking up four with Lebron lol Always baffled by all that

Christian Williams actually Ben Wallace is one of the few who could handle shaq
@bronzeplum24176 жыл бұрын
LOL thats why shaqs 04 finals numbers are a fraction of what they were in his other finals appearances during his prime? Shaq's finals averages during the 3-peat were 35.9/15.2 and 3.5 blocks, his stats against Ben Wallace in the finals were 26.6/10.8 and 0.6 blocks. Obviously still great numbers but no one played him better than Ben. Even against Olajuwon just 3 years into the league in '95 Shaq had better finals numbers; 28/12.5 6.3 dimes and 2.5 blocks.
@fourpvrk6 жыл бұрын
Lionel Muggeridge no one could handle shaq. Even though Wallace had 4 DPOYs he was as tall as LeBron and couldn’t put a body on Shaq so Billups, Rip and Sheed just denied Shaq getting the ball and also doubled Kobe so he wouldn’t pass to Shaq.
@fourpvrk6 жыл бұрын
BronzePlum Detroit’s overall defense was the factor, only man alive that could put a body on Shaq was Hakeem
@Puddlemuck146 жыл бұрын
The thing is, during that time teams would either double or triple team shaq and he would put up the numbers he would. Ben Wallace was able to guard him by himself and keep him within the same numbers other would have to double/triple team him to keep shaq to. Being smaller than shaq (like pretty much everyone in the nba) he was able to do that with his excellent defense. Now, did he shut down shaq? no. Of course not. Possibly no one would be able to do that. But Wallace was able to guard him by himself. Which made his team able to focus more on the outside. Which kobe described and is what lost them that series. No one else in that nba at that time and very very few would be able to do what wallace was able to against shaq.
