This is a the lost footage from the AMMO Training Academy episode 207 with Kevin Brown from Buffdaddy.com. In this episode we learn to fully detail a vehicle in real time with someone (Meredith) who has never detailed a car before. With Meredith's permission, we follow along as she asks questions, encounters paint issues, and ultimately solves many of the problems with the help of Kevin. This video was done with a beginner so that you (the viewer who may be a beginner) can experience some of the intricacies of paint polishing for the first time through her eyes. Hope this helps you develop more confidence when working on your car's paint correction. Be well! -L

This is such a blessing to have. There is no other master class on learning proper technique as in depth as this. I made a big mistake just buying a 7 inch rotary Milwaukee polisher with a cutting compound with general KZfaq knowling and no experience. I didn’t cause any damage but immediately knew I wasn’t doing something right. Since then I’ve returned it and bought a rotary polisher instead and am so glad to know of the scalloping technique. (Or scalping I’m not sure)
@richeyrich2203

Wait, you returned a 7in rotary in exchange for just a different 7in rotary? What was wrong with the Milwaukee? It’s a good tool. And rotary is the way to go for minimizing paint damage and cutting power for beginners.

Really amazing content. I went to a small Engineering college (in my day it was small 2500 students, now its much larger) in the Detroit area, Lawrence Tech. University, Henry Ford himself helped start the college so his employees could become Engineers. LTU's motto is "Theory and Practice". All the Professors had many years of industry experience as well as graduate degrees. We spent many hours in labs, almost every class had a project partnered with industry. What your 200 series is "Theory and Practice", culminating with a project, coaching a novice in real time, on a real car. I learned so much from this series and this video took it all to the next level putiting it all together. I figured out why I was struggling in various conditions. Larry you and Kevin are incredibly generous, thank you so much.

The European with the splitter lifting paint is most likely due to automotive paint not being designed to bond to plastics. You need to use an Adhesion Promotor on the prepped surface, THEN apply the paint. Then, it will adhere without lifting.

Hey Larry, this was super helpful! I have been using a short throw DA, and always wondering why my results are never as perfect as I can get, do you think I’m wasting my time with the short throw and should just invest in a long throw polisher? I also will be putting some of this great info to use to help my techniques, but just wondering if I’m wasting my time with a short throw machine.

Enjoyed this greatly as someone who is looking to start polishing for the first time here. I wish it was touched on as to why you want to avoid edges of panels such as two flush doorframes separated by a little gap. I was also confused as to why wiping after polishing is acceptable as i feel it would be considered similar to dry wiping the residue. Thank you

My biggest question is, how do you not get aches when doing lower body panels. Without a lift, it's such an uncomfortable angle. When I polished my car, the lower panels KILLED my body. I was sore in some new places I didn't know existed. Is it all just a matter of getting used to it?

I just got to the point when y’all are talking about bumpers being buffed and paint coming off I’ve had it happen on a raw plastic bumper a primed bumper and a painted bumper sometimes you heat things up to much and boom comes off if it isn’t dried enough but With backing a bumper and washing with a chemical this is just for raw plastic all you need is pre wash with dawn sciff with scuff stuff then scuff with dawn then rewash with dawn then wipe with alcohol and water you’ll never have problems

This is a very informative video. I would just get to the point with some of the techniques you guys are teaching. Your videos seem to last way longer then they should .I am sure you can keep the audience attention with straight to the point instruction. Some of us with ADHD are going crazy just talk while you work don’t over teach the whole video.Went from detailing a vehicle to spraying a pad over an air conditioner with house filters. Just grab another pad clean them later. I am sure you guys are the best in the business but I can’t be the only person in here thinking this video is straight out boring at times. Teaching and keeping the audience attention is also a technique.

Thank you for the comments. On this particular video, I asked if Larry would not cut it up, and just let things flow along… and if it takes three hours, that’s what it takes. Mainly because it’s not scripted, and there are times in which things happen (or are brought up during the act of polishing/discussion that would not normally make it into a regular 10-20 minute video.

Hello. I never used to wear glasses, until I just about sliced the eye out of my face while drilling a hole into a 2-foot piece metal bracket, and the bit caught & spun the bracket. After that close call, I started forcing myself to wear them whenever I was working around dirt & debris, or when using ANY tools. I even wear them while walking through my storage, and boxing up orders! Come to find out that my eyes are way less irritated at the end of the day, versus when I don’t wear glasses while buffing. I purposely chose a set of glasses I could buy 40-60 sets of at an inexpensive price for my polishing training classes, because they’re inexpensive, and not cumbersome at all. That’s why I still wear the same ones, because I still have 30-40 pair at my disposal! Thanks for watching. Kevin.

Question I thought you keep the machine flat because if you angle it it creates hot spots.
@iamwaxman
@iamwaxman 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, or automatically. This would certainly be true if the pressure applied to the machine was not adjusted as you tilted… Tilting will enable a smaller portion of pad to touch the paint and focus on all of that weight and twisting force (a.k.a. “polishing energy”) on a very small area, and yes, it would likely pose a problem. However, lifting up (or away from the surface) enables very safe and useful tilting. It’s done all the time with rotary, and quite a bit with random orbit machines. Thanks for watching! Kevin.
