I feel like if people want curls at the end, there is nothing wrong with that. It's just a style option. I find both looks gorgeous: curly ends and fully locked ends. When it comes to edges, it's a style preference. Some like their edges laid, others don't mind. It's fun not to all be alike. As long as it's not causing damage to your edges, do whatever fits your boat.

That explains a lot. With my first set of locs they were sharpie marker thick and everyone I knew hated them. But with my second set I have now everyone has loved them especially when I started them. My ends were really curly and it was the first time people complimented my natural hair consistently. I'm two years in and the curls are mostly gone. I agree with you and it saddened me that the fullness of who were are still isn't respected by our own communities.

The passion twist are definitely an animation of what locs represent. Also, I actually envy coarser hair texture because of its majestic look. Bob Marley had fine hair but did not retwist so his locs thrive better. He was on to something because fine hair is more susceptible of thinning and hair loss

I appreciate what you said about the curly ends! It was your videos that inspired me to start my loc journey and to do it all myself a year ago. I loved the curly end look and hoped mine would stay however they started to get blunt naturally. Initially I was disappointed but that triggered me to check myself & ask why I was even pursuing that look. If loosing the curls was a deal-breaker for keeping my locs then it would’ve definitely been due to some texturism/colorism issues I couldn’t get over. I remember in one of your videos I watched, you said that you were fine with however your locs turned out. I took on that same attitude from the jump so I got over the curly end thing quickly. I hope all black people think about these hair preferences introspectively. Thanks for speaking on it and uplifting all loc textures!

Thank you for saying that about curly ends. People are so stuck in eurocentric beliefs that they can’t even understand how that stems from colorism and texturism. They subconsciously and some consciously internalize a beliefs of a system that can’t even stand them.

Lets not pretend that the curly ends trend she is speaking of isn't grounded in FACTS! I love how she addressed this! As a community we are so used to seeing European beauty standards being shoved down our throats that we don't even notice when we are doing it. She is saying hey, check yourself. Ask yourself why do you want this look? Don't say "because it's cute". No...pause... ask yourself why do you rather locs with curly ends over blunt ends? Why do you want a curly Afro over a Kinky Afro? Why are you showing her pic (a pretty light skin girl with blonde locs that has curly ends) saying "I want this look" then get mad when your hair don't come out looking like hers. She's telling the truth. Lets not front! Showing her pic just may... be rooted in featurism, colorism and texturism. Hmmm, are we still accepting other features over our very own? We have come a long way in the black community with loving our natural hair. She is just saying LOVE the way YOUR HAIR grows out of your own head.

I hear you on the curly locs favoritism etc. and I love the curly look. It really has nothing to do with texturism etc Black girls have curly hair. It’s just different sized curls. Who else has our curls? Nobody. So if we have curls in it is just a matter of style. It’s a bit boho and I love that look. I hope nobody feels bad for liking the curls. I hope mines stay fluffy with my curls. Starting my journey today!!! Thank you for your inspiration!!

I started my loc journey in February.... because of my hair texture EVERYONE constantly tells me that my hair will not lock. Truth be told my hair is locked. The budding started in the roots, working its way to the ends. My tips are very curly, because of the natural texture growing from my scalp. Ladies embrace your journey and love your process. Don't compare your journey ❤❤❤❤❤

Girl, yes! I just told my stylist there are a lot of things going on in the loc community that I don’t agree with. Of course people can and will do what they want, but I don’t care for a lot of it. It’s disingenuous to me when people shy away from what locs truly, the journey, and what they mean… this includes curly ends, instant locs, lol extensions, the “ugly” phase. I feel most people who have these perspectives are those who truly didn’t take the time to understand what locs are, it’s all about aesthetics for them.

Where were you last night when I was retwisting? ❤️My fave thing is to listen to your retwists when doing my own. Castile soap to wash, rose water, and Reagan Sanai (black owned) hair oil and aloe spray was used for my retwist. I had to discontinue using the lock up because I wasn’t rinsing my hair frequently so it was leaving build up for me. I agree with the curly ends thing is not necessary and locs look beautiful without them, but it’s nice as option if you like it as a style without the view that it’s better than not curly. Mine are curly but I don’t love it, but they are young. My moms locs are so beautiful and she has blunt ends and it’s fire. She is 69 and men were stopping her on the street saying how beautiful her locs were. We are beautiful in our natural form.

straight facts. preferring locs with curly ends just for the texture is just as problematic as trying to make edges lay straight and flat and wearing wigs from the scalps of Brazilian and Indian women. like come on y'all. it's not that hard. let's love ourselves a little bit more.

I get the point you're making & honestly I thought you would feel this way. Like everything else I don't think there's anything wrong with having a preference but be mindful & respectful of all the beautiful locs that exist! As for this review, I think I'm gonna try the oil and the spray. I don't use anything heavy for my retwist because I'm terrified of the build up and I kinda prefer a less "sleek" look, just aloe gel and oil. This seems like a nice alternative. As always... great content🖤✨️

Lol I do love my Locs I do love my lock journey but I just want my end to be blunt, but everybody thinks it is so cute that they are still curly in some parts, and some parts are more blunt than others but I totally get what you’re saying we need to love our locks whatever stage they’re in and for what they are I’d totally appreciate the fact that you cleared that up for everybody because I’ll show your videos and I show your hair to a lot of people and I love the fact that even when your hair was bunching, you left it the way it was.

So I started my loc journey 4 months ago using 2-strand twists and my hair has just naturally ended up with curly ends. Sometimes I love them, sometimes I prefer the blunt-end look and wish mine were like that. I think it’s a slippery slope to start assuming people with curly end locs are just following some trend or taking part in something that degrades our culture (or says that we prefer something less black or something). I actually had no idea people felt negatively about curly end locs until this video and now I’m feeling kind of uneasy… thinking that I may be judged negatively by others in the loc community from the comments I’m reading here. Maybe some things don’t need to be that deep? I have curls, I like curls, curls are swirly and springy and whimsical.. yes, I like the texture. Is it a bad thing to like the texture of a bunch of shaggy curls on your head? I’m kind of missing where the offense is… or how white supremacy/colorism/racism plays a (significant) role in this (like it does with the relaxers and hot combs many of us grew up with)? Or with the reason why I like, or possibly even prefer the way they look? I’m just worried making curl vs blunt so deep is more alienating than anything. I didn’t feel an ounce of insecurity about my amazing, natural, joyful locs until right now.

Me exact sentiments!! We bring all inclusive by excluding and judging so that some who feel less about their hair or kinkier hair (I honestly do not know why) would feel “better” About it maybe.. it’s quite a slippery slope and I hope it never goes there again. ALL ALL ALL black hair is beautiful. But those that can’t to this video or follow indie would be for a purpose. There’s a reason I selected her thumbnail over others. It’s just the natural look and journey that I want and it’s all about what I want! For who want another look there at so many others out there. And if anyone does come to criticize that her curls are gone and be negative, well away with them too! But be mindful please be mindful 🙏🏽

Interesting. I didn’t take it like that. It sounded like she was speaking directly about the women who messaged her and expressed envy of her naturally curly ends (and disappointment in their own) and the women who were purposely trying to make curly ends when they do not naturally have them. She’s asking what’s the root of wanting curly ends when your hair does not naturally do that? I do think it is rooted in texturism. Constantly being told and shown that loose curls are the best way to be natural. It didn’t seem like a knock on people whose hair just does it naturally because hers obviously does and she wasn’t knocking her own hair. Locs can look all kinds of ways as you mentioned and women with kinky hair and blunt ends don’t have to envy anyone else’s hair because their locs are beautiful too. We can all be our own hair goals

What’s the matter? Curlier or bigger curl girls have less black “clout “ than kinkier girls???? I have three whole textures on my head. Let ppl like what they like! As long as nobody hating on others. What your hair can do mine may not and Vice versa. A preference is a preference. DO NOT shame anyone who chooses how they prefer their natural style to be my goodness! As much as you think you’re doing the opposite of, you’re actually segregating by ppl’s choice. It's truly crazy that the word white supremacy and curly ends were uttered in the same sentence about black women. At the end of the day it's a hairstyle (not everything is an emotionally deep journey for everyone) and it definitely says more about the people making a big stink about this than the people that want to have a combo of curls and locs. This is why I never join "communities" they always try to find a way to make themselves better than someone else. It's truly sad and people really need to grow up.

🦄✨✨Hey girl! Loved your video and energy✨ . I absolutely love Dr. Locs, their products are light and made with natural real products plus it's great for any type of locs! One thing I have to say is that you won't get lather on your first wash after using the pre cleanse because you have oils on your hair. It's not necessary to use tons of shampoo, I would actually dilute it a bit and make sure it penetrates. After that first wash (no need to dilute for the second wash) HELLLLLOOOO lather! This shampoo strips all the build up and it's the main purpose. I also have the color treated line.... OMG! The moisture I get from the conditioner and the smell 🌹🌹🌹🌹!!! GIRLLLL, TRY IT! I also have color treated locs and next time I want to have a deep cleanse I would do the pre cleanse, yasin 2x, color shampoo 1x and color conditionner following the application instructions. * Mic drop*🎤

If anyone is looking for a moisturizing shampoo I recommend the Pantene gold series moisture boost shampoo. It’s clear and washes out easily!

The shampoo does not lather the way I thought it would, barely lathers. and I have to use too much of it for it to be at the point that my hair feels washed. I have long sisterlocks, and I was disappointed. my favorite was the leave in conditioner and oil.

I liked the pre cleanse but the shampoo and leave in made my hair feel so dry. The yaya hair oil was good and the leave in spray was ok

I totally feel you! I think I just have to keep using my loc tonic and hair oil if I keep using it. The pre cleanse is definitely their star product. I might try to make something like it from scratch!

Texturism and colourism is alive and kicking, unfortunately. That's why I'm slightly confused about some loc sistas demonstrating the somewhat unnecessary trend of laying down edges to display flat, straight hair against the visible contrast of natural curly hair. Each to their own, but it seems to contradict the dynamics of natural beauty. We all have different hair textures, but as a loc sista myself, I'm more inclined to appreciate a fellow sista's decision to embrace her hair's natural texture from root to tip. I too have fine hair and my hair took a minute to loc back in the day. It never occurred to me to lay down the fine hairs at my edges, even 18 years later. As I say, this is a personal choice. I choose to display my locs in their natural state, with no gels to lay down the edges. I have worked in corporate environments, ie a lawyers' office, and if anyone there had the nerve or cheek to suggest they were offended by my natural edges, I would tell them that this is how my hair grows out of my head, so deal with it!

Before I went natural, loose natural, I was told since I was dark skin that I would have this nappy hair. But I decided to take that journey anyway and surprisingly my hair was very curly. The thing that I’m not proud of is that made me extremely happy? We have been told that. Our natural features are ugly so we have a hard time understanding that what we have nappy kinky curly straight is beautiful. So I’m very glad you’re talking about this. It’s something that Hass to be said over and over again for us to really understand and believe it.

The curly end thing is sad because men do not do this to themselves/each other. In fact, the type 4 loss tend to be more celebrate. But us women do want to let go of that toxic ideology

I’m planning on getting sisterlocks because I want it to be permanent and I don’t want to keep putting my hair up in a bun or a pony like it’s hard at times and I still have to cut my split ends before I do so which but I’ve been looking for a real good loctician in Miami based off pictures I see online which I know how to interlock my own hair cause I did it many times but at the same time the sizing just ended not being for me so I decided I want to go really small this time

If you want actual sister locks make sure you check the website for sisterlock consultants. If you want small interlocks you can probably save a lot of money and get an equally beautiful outcome

How often do you rinse your hair? Is it recommended to constantly wet your hair? My boyfriend wants to rinse his hair almost everyday after work because of all the sweating he does.

It's ok to rinse daily but be sure it to let them dry completely to avoid mildew.
