Rebounds don't get talked about much, but its one of the biggest in-universe barriers to learning alchemy. If you're an unskilled alchemist and your transmutation fails, it rebounds directly onto you, causing horrific accidents like we see with the Father's arm here. Between that, the immense and expensive education requirement, and the fact that Alchemists are highly secretive by nature, not a lot of people actually study it. Even fewer are good enough to hit State Alchemist levels.

The radio had all the parts it needed for the equivalent exchange it was just broken. You can perform the transmutation without adding anything else if you have all the necessary parts and the same mass of material. What Edward is doing with the weapons is taking the required mass from around him to create it.

Yeah basically price of equivalent exchange is materials they are using during transmutation. They basically change chemical structure and shape of object. You can't create something from pure air or you can't increase size of something by transmutation.

It's never fully explained, but Since Alchemists need to understand a material on a molecular level to transform it, my guess is that a rebound occurs when the Alchemist _doesn't_ fully understand the Material. Like, Father Cornello tried to fuse organic Material with inorganic Material and he very clearly did not know much about either, so even with the Stone it didn't react correctly. Maybe he was to vague in what he was trying to create, too distracted while doing it, making him sloppy.

The original 2003 version explained where the energy to transmute came from, I liked the explanation cause it tied into the philosopher's stone and explained the glaring error that it takes energy to move things, not just equivalent mass, but to move and change molecules themselves should require energy. Think Real life for a second, you have a bolt and a nut, you want them joined together... you have to exert energy to twist the nut onto the bolt, not just equal mass input/output.

You should watch the 2003 version afterwards, just cause it's not as good as the GOAT doesn't mean it's a bad show. Just watch it thinking it's an alternate reality to FMA Brotherhood and you'll enjoy it. The world rules are ~80% the same but the plot is way different after the first half.

Oh... this version Star Wars Prequels the reason they can do alchemy later, It's not as good of an explanation of where the energy comes from, but they do say sources.

Foreshadowing is a narrative device. It’s got some very dark moments, but is less weighty. That’s basically all I feel comfortable saying about tone without coming off spoilery.

Unfortunately, Edward's ingredient list for the human body is actually off by quite a bit here and there. Mattpat did a breakdown of the list and compared it to the actual chemical measurements listed online. Still good example by Ed.

Rose is so desperate she could do everything to have her fiancé back, and more important, to see her beliefs being true. it's how some people are tricking others to gain power on them. Edward is not mean saying the truth. Their is no god and therefore, you're wrong. But he helps also her giving her a true good advice : believe in yourself and move forward. Edward talks of course about himself but also about Icare's myth. He flew too close from the Sun and the wax giving him wings melted and the poor guy died from the fall. FMA has sure it's funny and goofy moments but it's at first a tragedy, who will crush your heart and your soul in multiples moments. Don't forget that.

The comedy, especially around Ed's height does lighten up and become less common as the series goes on. It does feel tonally inappropriate at times and honestly my only issue with the series. Also truth isn't god. It is more like a law of the university. In FMA "god" is not just used as the religious version, but also the philosophical "god", which means universe/world.

I’d say this episode is where that tonal clash is at its worse. It’s all uphill from here when it comes to balancing the tones in my opinion

@@thebrokenpuppet2714A lot of that, also, is Arakawa finding her footing with the story; a lot of shots in this episode are 1 to 1 to the manga, and even her editors mentioned that the clashing of tones needed to be toned down, and it shows in the manga, as well as the anime, since this point.

It's kinda jarring opening a reaction video that has no intro, and just jumps straight into the content Not sure if that's a bad thing or a good thing, but it definitely is a thing.

I don't disagree, but according to my retention rates for my intro, this works better. I just leave all my thoughts for the outro now. Tbf, all my intros are *literally* always "name, episode, maybe a small prediction, Patreon plug" and that's it

I find this show handles religion rather well. albeit, THIS religion is surely proven as a farce. Overall, in this show, can you truly prove that there is no higher power that has their will be done? consider this in episode 5 and further i suppose.
