Dire Straits
Brothers In Arms
Released : 1985
"Brothers in Arms" is a 1985 song by Dire Straits, appearing as the closing track on the album of the same name. It was written in 1982, the year of Britain's involvement in the Falklands War. In 2007, the 25th anniversary of the war, Knopfler recorded a new version of the song at Abbey Road Studios to raise funds for British veterans who he said "are still suffering from the effects of that conflict."
"Brothers in Arms" has become a favourite at military funerals.

Dire Straits brought this out after the Falkland’s war. Mark K with his talent saw a window of opportunity to bring to the world 🌍 a description of what it was like to put your life on the line. Fabulous reactions.

Very few people can play a guitar like Knopfler. The emotion in the lyrics and guitar are second to none. It almost brought tears to my eyes and I have known this song since it was released. Mark Knopfler is ini my opinion the best guitarist and songwriter of my time. I own every Dire Straits album ever released and they are still my favorite band after 40 years of listening.

This songs it's an ode to peace. "Brothers" means all mankind. It was performed 79th anniversary of Nelson Mandela. You, me, North Americas, Russians... we all are brothers. "And it's fool to make war to our brothers in arms" it's a reference when the people cross their arms with each other to make a circle or a barrier to defend the rights to be whoever you want, whether you're from.

I am not a military guy. I grow up in a country governed by a dictator, and in such conditions you can obviously not develop positive feelings about military. However, I never perceived this song as celebrating war or the military world. I know that a lot of young people go to the army because this is their best shot in life. They get sometimes involved in a war without really knowing what this means. And they often die, and leave behind family and friends. I always felt that this song is showing this sad part of the army. It is a strong, beautiful and sensible song.

Thank you so much for putting this video together. The love and the raw emotion of this song by so many different people comes straight through the screen and smacks you in the face. Mark Knopfler is one of the world's truly great guitarists and Dire Straits one of the finest bands around. Such an emotional song so beautifully written and performed, if you have a working heart, you'll be affected by it. God bless all those involved with this. We all share a love of great music in so many ways.

When i saw K.S.O's reaction the first time I wanted to cry along with her. She's a great reactor, no disrespect to the others, I watch them too on a regular basis. Enoma would have found a reason not to like it. They're the best, just ask them.

A little hard on Enoma, I've had differences of opinion with some of their reactions but at least you know they are shooting you straight and not just jerking you off. They are one of the relatively few reactors who will let you know they don't like a song. The majority of reactors are too afraid of people unsubscribing to come out and flat say "this song sucks."
@racinnut77
@racinnut77 2 жыл бұрын
@@88wildcat The problem I have with Enoma is twofold. First, often their not liking the song is the result of a complete misunderstanding of the lyrics. Rather than reserve judgement and ask commentators to explain what they don't understand, they just rip on the song anyway. Second, their arrogance. As I said, they're the best, just ask them. They build themselves up by trying to tear others down by calling other reactors "fake" while only they (Enoma) are honest. They can not like any song they want. When they start ripping on other reactors, that's where you lose me. I could mention that they waste tons of time going off on tangents completely off topic to the song, but I won't.

Brotha, the first time I heard of this song was an episode of Miami Vice called Out Where the Buses Don't Run, Season 2 episode 4. At the end of the showdown A retired Vice detective (Bruce McGill) offers to assist Crockett and Tubbs with their latest case. The only problem? The man the former detective claims is running the drug ring they are investigating supposedly died years ago. Check it out n u will here Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits.

I can see where this can be interpreted as a "salute to the military" type of song and it may have morphed into that now since it is a 35 year old song but I never interpreted it that way. I've always seen it being about armies or resistances of the people (particularly in Central America since just about every country in Central America was putting up a civilian resistance to some dictator or another when this was released in 1985) not militaries of the government. The opening lines about the mountains being his home now but his actual home are the lowlands sounds to me like he is in hiding or is involved in some type of guerilla warfare. His brothers in arms are followers of the cause, not actual servicemen.
