@@ModMINI How much media attention does any planning commission meeting ever get? They are lucky if the members show up, let alone the public or the media. Disney and its lawyers did it all above board and by the book. The State of Florida is going to have a heck of a time reversing this contract. It is going to be a battle just to get a restraining order to prevent it from going into effect because it was done above board by the proper entity. 25 years ago I worked for a pop company. Waste Management bought the land immediately next door to the land our water wells were on. We had a citizen at every public meeting taking notes and filing a report back with the company. When it was time for us to resist those plans, our lawyers knew everything that had been said and who the local leaders against the plan were so we could work in concert with them. So why didn't the state of Florida do the same? Because they are arrogant idiots.

I've lived in Florida most of my life. My initial reaction was, "Oh, buddy. You have nnnnooo idea who you've picked a fight with. There's a reason some of us refer to 'the mouse' as 'the rat.'" Then I wondered what Disney was waiting for. Now we know.

A better read of the problem for DeSantis is not that he was out maneuvered by Disney but that he was petty, vindictive and autocratic in attempting to punish them for opposing him. This wouldn't be news item except for his own actions.

He could have just gone on Fox and complained about disney being "woke" whatever that's supposed to mean etc but he decided to screw with their $$$$ . Disney has been around for several generations and survived many different politicians , presidents, economic ups and downs ....and they've only gotten stronger. The fact he thought he could have any sort of "control" over their business is hubris of the highest order. You never screw with their business. I follow a number of their entertainment shows (Stars Wars etc ) and just watch how terrified the actors are of crossing them. It's hilarious and scary at the same time. Also, no one is mentioning the statement after the King part of the contract : OR unless Disney abandons the park. They're already making plans for when Florida is under water. DeSantis is a tiny pot hole in their scheme of things. BTW, go BUCKS!!!

@Saltina Wenchito I believe if we consider the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution, no state or state constitution can violate federal laws or the US Constitution. Corporations are often granted the same Freedom of Speech as the ordinary citizen would be. The Supreme Court has also ruled that states can not violate federal law. The Supreme Court has also considered corporations to have the same freedoms as the individual. So if the US Constitution and SCOTUS says that states can not violate the Constitution or federal law, then DeSantis violated Disney's 1st Ammendment rights.

Florida depends heavily on the tourism industry of which Disney and Universal are big draws to the state. Florida is one of the few states that has no state income tax. It is largely because of tourism. Ron is biting the hand that feeds the state.

Disney is a billion dollar company. For DeSantis going after a billion dollar company says a lot about how much power he has (which is not a lot) vs power he wishes he has (which is beyond his reach). As much as the establishment gets on my nerves sometimes, but it does have it’s advantages when it comes to those that they truly support. If DeSantis really believes that his policies would be accepted nationwide, then he really is out of touch with reality.

This whole time it has been my hope that Disney will leave the state of Florida high and dry. If I headed Disney, I'd already have found a new site. Disney is Florida's largest employer. IF they shut that park down, that will tank the Florida economy. Maybe that's what needs to happen when politicians, especially control freak ones, try to renege on lawful agreements and bite the very hand that feeds them. Good luck, Disney! Disney was never going to get into a public face slapping contest with DeSantis. They knew that all that would do was give him exposure that he could manipulate to suit his base. DeSantis wanted to go face to face with Disney to show just how 'tough' he is. He and his advisers were idiots if they thought that would happen. Disney always takes the slow methodical approach because they know they have the best lawyers, the wealthy investors and most important world wide publicity. They are a business that takes long methodical approaches that will benefit the business the most.
