This video will walk you through the simple steps needed to keep your rainwater tank system in good condition. It covers maintenance for the following parts of your tank system:
- Roof & gutters -where your rainwater is collected for tank use;
- The first flush device -which diverts the first part of the rainwater from the roof which is most likely to be dirty;
- The inlet to the actual tank and outlet to the stormwater;
- The pump which pressurises your water and controllers which may be installed for switching to mains water use.

Some states allow rain water harvesting here in 🇺🇸 but no one to come and clean your tank.

Is there any way to eliminate mosquito larvae from a 20,000 gallon water catchment tank I use bleach to help keep it clean but it looks like after 20 hours the larvae are still alive. There are not many, and water is not used to drink, and there are two particle filters before the pump, but I hate that they are in the tank. What can I do?

Laura Burnette you can stir the water so they drown. Or get a surface pump and pump the water through a fine mesh filter. I have even put olive oil in my tank to suffocate them.

He didn't turn the mains water back on after cleaning the filters .... after turning mine off it won't turn b ack on .... is there a trick to it or it's jammed for some reason?

You can say that again, the power should be on the outside of the that in-closer, not behind the water filter and next to the tap. Otherwise great video

@@RichieRich845 I was choked when I saw he turned of and the the water was pouring next to a switch. What an electrician did this? Who gave him a license? I'm not licensed but would never do this.

I also noticed that. He did not show cleaning of sediment trap which seems it has not been installed.All in all everything seems quite involved in maintenance. Not sure if it really worth doing as seems a lot of pain and not much gain. Mosquitoes, you need some oil to add into your tank, meshes cleaning. The other problem - using wet system is by definition is you collecting a dirty water if you're not cleaning your system every time. Ideally you need install the sensor which will be checking from lowest point if water has gone 1h after rain stopped. If you won't do this then you have mosquitoes and your wet system will have lots of bacteria which next time goes into your tank. As I see the manufacturers of the tanks should make and additional sediment trap on top of the tank to use the whole area to catch sediments to avoid them entering the tank. The more area the lower water speed the more efficient the trap. So it has to use the whole top area. Seems manufactures don't wanna you to see all the shit which could be collected. I bought my first house and it doesn't have a water tank as it was build before it become mandatory. I from one side wanna watering well my lawn, from another side not sure if easier just pay for water. I tend to think to build a small dry system with IBC water tank to see if it worth doing.
