I don't think Canada's ever played such a number of top tier quality opponents in a short run: The Netherlands, France, and Argentina twice all in hostile territory. The fact that they held the Dutch to a scoreless half, drew 0-0 in France, and only conceded four goals in two matches against the friggin' World Champs and didn't play intimidated is a win in and of itself. Canada moved the ball well in the middle of the park when attacking but it fizzled out or was easily snuffed out when the neared the box. The players were easily dispossessed or bumped off the ball, no strength at all. For Argentina it was like that cartoon of a big kid with his hand on the little kid’s forehead as the little guy swings punches at the air.

The reason Davies had a bad series is simply he isn’t surrounded by quality players like Bayern. He needs guys who can work at his level. Often Davies will send a pass that Kane or Kimmich would bury but Laryea or David fumble.

I agree with Kasey. I think Argentina planned not to score many goals to reach the final. To score more goals, they had to work harder. They wanted to preserve their stamina for the final. So, they did not seem to make effort to score goals in the second half, particularly after Messi scored.
