I learned to drive in my father's totally unrestored original 1952 Dodge Coronet Fluid Drive Coupe. Fluid Drive referred to the 3 speed semi automatic transmission. Flathead 6,110 hp. The car would automatically drop into 1st when you stopped. You'd shift into 2nd and 3rd from the shifter on the column. She was a sweet old girl and looked and ran beautifully. Thanks for teaching me to drive and for lending me the car whenever I wanted to Dad, I love you and miss you. RIP ❤😊

Just have to comment on the quality of the video. The man behind the camera does great shots. You can see everything in the close ups. The angles are great. The lighting is good. The continuity Makes it easy for me to follow what is happening. This is not to belittle the ford. It looks great, etc. Wish I could have such a outstanding example.

My dad bought a new Hawaiian bronze '50 in late '49 for $1,610 at Bob Ford in Dearborn Michigan. He was one of many WW2 vets that treated themselves to a new car. Due to high demand, labor strikes and inflation (price gouging) the '46-'48s were tough to get except an uncle who had "connections" and drove a new Olds 98 every year. Rumor has it he was a numbers runner. By '49 cars became more available. It seemed like everyone in our large family of Aunts and Uncles bought a new '49 or '50 model car. Someone hotwired Dad's '50 when he was at work in Detroit and went joy riding with it. The cops found the car and it never ran the same. He traded it in on a new '55 Ford Fairlane. Great memory of the first nice, new car our family had.

I learned to drive in my father’s off-white 1950 Ford, but it had a V-8 and a single piece, curved, windshield. I think the windshield had a center spoke under tension that the rear view mirror was attached to. It was also the first car I worked on and the mechanicals in this video jogged some nice memories. Thanks for that.

Fords of the 1950's were the greatest shifters. Like a '55 Ford, that had the separate shifter shaft along the steering column. Those were the days of quality, you could really feel. Then in the mid 60's, Ford threw all of that in the river, and went to pot metal and nylon bushings and mickey mouse shifters that got the job done, but just barely, and were never anything like the old-time Ford shifters

This is the way all cars ought to be built. And not only in America but all over the world. What a beautiful work of art and from solid material. To me in my own opinion I would surely trust this vehicle alot more than any spanking brand new vehicle made today and I bet that it is also very, very comfortable. I would gladly trade a brand new vette without any questions in a hurry. God bless each and every single mechanic who help restored this car. God bless them all.

A lot of people like the fuel economy of the six cylinder. They ran well and were less expensive to buy.

Very impressive. I was a little disappointed that it didn't show the restoration of the interior as well, since the video is titled "full restoration." Also, the correct YOM plates on there should be 1947 California plates with a 1950 metal tag on it. Usually, the State of California won't allow a classic car to carry vintage plates unless they are the correct YOM ones, as I found out when registering my 1947 Plymouth.

My favorite car, because my dad bought one of these, used, and drove it few about 3 years when I was 6, 7 and 8 years old. So, I'm prejudiced, but I still think they have tasteful classic lines, and very reserved, as if the Queen of England would be dignified driving one of these cars. It was about this time that the L.A. freeway system was becoming dominant in L.A. county, and so I think that's why my dad sold this Ford for a '56 Pontiac, to drive 70 miles per hour.

Do I have to make an appointment to bring my ‘56 Oldsmobile in or can I just cruise on in ???? I’m having a heck of a time dialing Her in mechanically. She wants to fall on Her face right when I step on Her accelerator. Once we get going, everything runs smoothly. All original.

Why are they called Shoeboxes?
@BraunsMotorsports
@BraunsMotorsports 3 жыл бұрын
Not exactly sure. '49-51 Ford's are often called shoeboxes, perhaps due to their more rounded, streamline design, and "slab" sides.
@herrunsinn774
@herrunsinn774 2 жыл бұрын
Through the end of the 40's, cars had distinct running boards and articulated fenders that bulged out from the main body. These Fords eliminated all of that with bodywork that enclosed the full width and uninterrupted length of a car body and had flat sides - By comparison to the bulbous cars of the past, these cars quite literally looked like a shoebox... hence the name. 😇

ITHOUGHT THAT ALL THESE ford's WERE FLAT HEAD v8'S i HAD ONE AND MINE WAS A v8.
@shicoff1398
@shicoff1398 2 жыл бұрын
The V8 flathead was an option on all Ford's then and more common of course, it's wasn't a lot more $ in 1949, 1950, 51 the V8 was 100 HP in 49-51 then in the 1952-53 V8 Flathead was 110 HP, the 1952 Ford 6 was an OHV engine, new that year , all old Merc's where V8's no 6's at all--- Merc V8's slightly bigger, a 49-53 Merc. flathead was 125 HP 255 cubic inches--- a Ford V8 49-53 is 239 cubic inches and 100 HP-- the Ford Six was about the same HP and a very good motor that started in Fords in 1941, until the 6 OHV Ford in 1952, but still the V8 was an option and most where V8 equipped I have a 52 and a 53 V8, Flatheads. Old Ford 6's and V8's where also in some Ford trucks.
