If you have not been on this ride, do not bash it. I rode this the day before watching this video and this video gives it no justice at all. Everything about this ride, including the entrance and queues, are absolutely amazing. Yes, there are a lot of screens but when you are on the ride wearing the 3d goggles and getting breathed on and slobbered (sprayed with water) on by the dinosaurs and King Kong, it doesn't matter. Extremely exhilarating ride. Definitely in my top 3 at the park. Would highly recommend.

@@akira357 Sorry, but I have no idea how they're going to pull off an entire skull island without screens. However, I do think that at some parts of the ride, you would get into an area of Skull Island where instead of screens, you're surrounded by trees making it hard to see past it as to not ruin the experience. Then a giant Kong animatronic comes out of nowhere.

@@extrident7950 That's like saying they couldn't have pulled off the Jurassic Park ride...but they did and it was a classic. You're grabbing at straws right now. Like I said some people like cheap experiences. If I just want to look at a screen for a ride. I'll buy an Oculus Rift and sit my ass at home. I go to these ride to appreciate the creativity of the artist. You think about what does it take to make the character move or how to setup this moment in the ride where it will be unforgettable.

John Marshall Totally agree. I went to Universal Studios Hollywood a few days ago and met a couple from Peru. I asked them if they had any theme parks, and they thought their might still be an old one, but they weren’t sure. They were so happy to be in CA, they spent two days at Disneyland and CA Adventure and then the third at Universal. They were tough! One day at a park and I need a day off, they did 3 in a row! What I will say though, in Australia you’ve got the best animals, even down to spiders. Such beautiful animals, and adorable ones 😊

Looks fun, but I'm tired of everything being replaced by screens. The fun of rides, and what has made Disney world so great, is that they truly make it feel like an immersive experience. Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom is a great example. It truly feels like you're riding through the forests dodging meteors and huge animatronic dinosaurs. It's not just screens and 3D projections. There are actual built in artificial landscapes within the ride. It takes the experience to a whole new level. And I really hope this isn't the direction theme parks are going. The rides Universal is making are fun, but they're lacking that immersion that truly makes a GREAT ride.
@bigbeanpot

Have you been on any of the attractions at Universal lately? My favorite thing about Universal is the fact that they can blend the amazing sets they've created with the screens. This video doesn't do the screen justice. The immersion is there, and looks way more impressive in real life. And there are a lot more practical effects and set pieces in this attraction than people are actually giving Universal credit for. 6 animatronics to the 3 screen scenes. That's damn impressive if you ask me. And that's not including the amazing ride vehicle/driver and the absolutely stunning temple.
@DrooEdwards
@DrooEdwards 8 жыл бұрын
+Tyler Climenhaga I have. And you make a good point. How they incorporate everything along with the screens adds to it. But at the same time, you know you're just looking at a 3D projection. It doesn't feel REALLY real like it does in the example I gave about the Dinosaur attraction at Animal Kingdom. I enjoy attractions like Spider-Man, Transformers, Harry Potter, but I would rather see the incredibly intricate set designs instead of a giant wall projection. The Jurassic Park ride is fantastic with that, as was Jaws. That's what we all grew up loving, and while they still incorporate it, it seems like every ride they do is with this style and it's not as exciting to me. Incorporate projections within rides? Absolutely. Make the entire action of the ride a 3D projection? No thanks. It doesn't feel as real. The original King Kong ride was amazing. Maybe I shouldn't have hoped for that, but it still looks very fun.

I dunno-that kinda stops looking so scary when you've walked into that temple so many times and come out alive every single time. One time on my most recent trip to Skull Island, my cousin and I were waiting in line when the Team Member was cleared to let us in. "Come in, sacrifices!" he called to everyone who approached him. Inspired by a bit of casual roleplaying from a fellow explorer, I decided to do a bit of my own. When he called me a sacrifice, my response was: "Sacrifice? Me? Please. I've come here to Skull Island 4 times now, and every time I've escaped with my life. My cousin and I'll find a way outta here, just like the last 4 times!"

I count 6 animatronics (ride and queue) and only 3 screen scenes. That's not even counting the incredible temple facade and the opening/closing door, the truck with the driver, the ape skeleton, and the amazing queue that pluses what the old Dueling Dragon queue had. This is Universal in it's prime and I'm loving every bit of it. And if you don't like it, fine, don't go, that's just a shorter line for me to wait in!

Yes there's 3 screens which make up 90% of the action. The temple facade is the best part, utterly incredible but housing a mediocre ride. The queue is amazing but it's a queue. You don't go on a ride for the queue. Yes the technology is amazing, yes it's an amazing ride vehicle but you can't replace real life action with screens, not yet anyway. It had potential, masses of scope, it didn't execute well. At all. It fell flat. And the animatronic Kong, underwhelming. The general consensus of the comments to this video prove, it's disappointing more than its impressing.

+STEPHEN CAPRIOLI but if you have a real life looking gigantic animatronic literally shaking the bridge you're on for at least 2 minutes with Kong up In your face growling at you with full on breath and tipping over your tram, then you wouldn't care about the digital crap that makes you sick looking at it. That's what it looked like in the Hollywood version before he burnt to the ground years ago. It was amazing!! So that's what I have to compare this too and the real life huge animatronic Kong I witnessed was by far the most incredible experience I've ever had on a ride.. This is just more lazy and boring fake 3D crap!

Lets be real here for a second. This ride has a amazing looking que and theme. It fits well in the area of the park it's located in (Jurassic Park area). It looks to be a high volume rider consuming ride (fast lines). The ride itself is nothing earth shattering; but it's a legit, fun, vehicular motion based 3-D and animitronic ride. Kudos to UNIVERSAL and company for bringing another GREAT attraction to US/IOA!!! Can't wait to ride it next time we are there!

This is one of the coolest rides I've been on. Enjoyed the original Kongfrontation, had no expectations about this one. From the moment you walk toward the ride, the theming with the mountains in the background and that epic score really set the tone. The queue line is amazingly detailed, and the animatronics are 1st rate. The ride itself really brings you into the story/world they try to create, the action and feel is awesome. All topped off with Kong himself at the end. Even the characters and driver were entertaining. I rode this 4 times in one day, never got tired of seeing those gates open.

This looks fun, but the animatronic Kong felt like a forced in after thought considering how hyped it was. It's like Universal is desperately trying to prove that they can do other things besides video-based motion simulators, but yet they struggle to fill in a ride's length without heavily using CGI.
@briannaharter4411

even if they wanted to use the cgi to get the motion there are a few places where they could of blended the 2 to improve it.like when one of the leach things jump out a leach animatronic could of popped out or when the claw came out another claw could of came out else where.when they were fighting the rex maybe at some point there could of been jaws come down on the bus.there doesn't have to be whole animartionics just ones that pop up now and then to help with illusion.

It would have been cool if they had created a broken tilting bridge scene at the end (like the original hollywood kong with the vehicle sliding sideways toward the edge) and then just as the vehicle is about to go off the side, Kong rises up from below and puts his hand on the bridge and pushes it level so the truck can escape - sort of a reversal of the original way it happened.

+Dale Anderson No, because look at Pirates in Shanghai! That's how you use screens! As a compliment to the sets, not the primary focus point. Any ride that has 3D glasses may as well not have sets at all. It completely ruins the immersion. Universal is being completely lazy here. On the other hand Star Wars, the Alcatraz attraction, will have 10x the animatronics seen here and sets that will blow your mind away (I've seen the plans). Not to mention residing in the largest show building on Earth for a dark ride.

You have to ride the ride to really understand how it stands out differently from the other 3D rides. The quality of the screens and how high of resolution they are its incredibly clear and high def. The way the screens immerse you in this ride are so much different than Transformers and Spider-Man. The screens image moves with your body and everything has a center point of attention right at you. You don't get the nauseous feeling you get with some of the other 3D rides. You truly have to experience the ride in person and be able to take in the theming and how immersive the ride really is. Don't automatically assume things when you have not even had the chance to experience everything this extremely cool new ride offers.

The Yeti isnt that advanced lol. Much more impressive. Not much movement in terms of something swinging at you but it's better than disco mode

this looks like a great ride... unfortunately, it's just that, a ride, and not an experience. kongfrontation was truly an experience. as a kid, i feared for my life as we were almost killed by Kong while being evacuated via tram. the attendant performer added to thrill and reaction of everyone on the tram. nothing beats actual sets and humans who emote. universal used to have such amazing experiences eg jaws, earthquake, kongfrontation. those experiences evoked emotion that tied us to the attractions. if and when I ride reign of Kong, I'm sure I'll say that it's amazing, but I am certain I will never develop an emotional bond or have nostalgia for it once it's recycled for a new attraction.

Most people that bash it HAVE ridden it. They most likely waited an hour or more to ride this lack luster ride. The exterior and queue makes it seem like the ride is going to be this grand thing, but it leaves you blue balled. The fact that you can see the edges of the screen from the bus like in 3:30 . Shows how lazy they were in creating the actual ride experience. They put so much energy into the facade and the kong head at the end, that they were lazy in creating a memorable riding experience. With the large loading capacity that the buses provide, it's almost as if they created this ride for the soul purpose of decreasing lines in other rides.

I just went on it yesterday, the ride was short and disappointing because it was just screens. You had to constantly be looking left and right, causing me to miss some of the action. I had to look over everyone’s heads in the cart, just to miss what’s on both sides. And then after all that the ride just ends. The only redeeming part was the animatronic which was absolutely incredible. Overall: 6/10 and 5 of those points are from the head alone
@DevilFish69
@DevilFish69 8 жыл бұрын
It looks OK. I was hoping for an animatronic King Kong like the one from the 1990s. Kongfrontation I think it was called. To have a huge robotic Kong attacking the city and the tram would have been awesome. It was awesome in 1990. With today's technology it could be even better. The problem is while these digital rides are fun, they are a dime a dozen. There is already a digital Kong ride in California called King Kong 360 3D.

And for the ride film used in Hollywood, of course some changes had to be made to it to fit in with the ride's theming such as slightly changing King's model and fitting the film to fit one giant wraparound screen, which was used in Fast and Furious Supercharged, which is coming to Florida in 2017

Kind of disappointed. It's mostly 3D screens with some practical sets around them, which I guess is now the norm for Universal. And the real Kong at the end just sits there and looks around. You're right - universal doesn't or just won't build anything immersive or any new ride without relying very heavily on 3D movies and screens as part of it or most of it - I know everyone complains or likes to fuss about Disney - but at least they have physical effects and physical scenes - very few rely that much on movie screens compared to most of the rides at universal

+John Michael Yeah, but Disney's 3D footage will be much crisper than this, which has the quality of a video game. Disney owns ILM, the best visual effects studio in the world, therefore in the long run Disney will be able to create the best screen rides. Heck, Universal even contracted ILM to make the footage for Jimmy Fallon. It is so ironic that they're literally paying Disney to make their ride. LOL!

I never had the pleasure of riding Kongfrontation, but a slow tram ride with a couple of giant slow moving animatronic Kongs can't compare to the action and thrills of this ride. They each have their place and it's too bad they can't keep them both. I was sitting on the end seat on the right and when the girl shoots those worms, you get blasted with water. The car rumbles and shakes while they are fighting on top of it and you get a real sense of falling when you are "falling" in the web. I love animatronics, but until you can have an animatronic do what happens on screen, forget about it. I get the appeal of Kongfrontation . At the end, when you pass a calmer Kong just sitting there. It's an awesome sight, but I would much rather ride this. There is no comparison.

I dont mind screen rides but this one is a no from me..the actual ride system is what sucked not the use of screens..the lack of seat belts or lap bars ment you rattled and slid all over the bench and other than that the ride isnt as thrilling as transformers. Sure some parts make you feel like you are interacting with the world but its not as immersive as other screen rides because you are still just going straight and its noticiable..spiderman, transformers, and both harry potter rides take you around the show building and make you feel like you are moving in a more dynamic way. Transformers also felt more real because the robots translate well to CGI and 3D. Screen or not the ride system itself here is what brings the ride down.

+Dale Anderson We get it, Dale. You're a Universal fan. You pop up in ever single comment that is slightly negative. People can have negative opinions. It's okay.

+Dale Anderson Well I beg to differ. Forbidden Journey is a GREAT example of a simulator. Has good animatronics and screens

So many whiners!! Geez, looks great.. I guess you all just want to keep pushing the limits of safety & whatever.. It's amazing what they have done.. Obviously you have to have some appreciation for the hard work & creativity that goes into something like this.. Go ride a rollercoaster that's been there done that too.. I mean really!? What more is there to do without them getting to the point of risking human life which has been proven pretty close to now with all the mishaps, bigger drops, higher coasters, faster this, upside down.. Just enjoy a theme park for what it is and stop complaining..

Home Town Honey that’s not the point. It’s not about making it more dangerous, it’s about spending the time and energy and money to make it special and not just a glorified 4D movie theatre.
