Yea, his torreando style gets ever better with gi grips. And half-guard passing can become even higher pressure using the lapel to reinforce the nearside crossface. The scary thing: 1) that is just two passing pathways that translate from the gi. 2) lately his nogi mount has looked really good and it looks like Roger has been coming over to train with him. He may become as great in the gi as no gi given a year or two time.

Do people really think to be "complete at Jiu Jitsu" that both Gi and no gi should be trained? I think this is very far removed from most modern practitioners minds. I would consider it two separate disciplines.
@bgcheese
@bgcheese Жыл бұрын
@@dylansechler same family. Same moves. Some instructors might have renamed moves but they are the same. In Gi an Americana is the same as a No-Gi Americana. My opinion is that if a No-Gi individual black belt never trained in Gi and puts the Gi on for the first time he/she isn’t a black belt in BJJ but a No-Gi black belt.

Starting jiu jitsu is the best decision I ever made for sure, after 12 months I do basically everything also Gordon does here, I rolled hard rounds in Colorado then now Florida but I use my head like that, control the leg, I naturally pass similarly to that now, and now that I do no Gi, it’s made me even better in the gi because I’m used to it and people have noticed my gi grips being “better than white belt” but it’s normal because I guess that’s what happens when you roll with higher belts than you and you watch videos and eventually you just realize things to do when you defend like a knee shield or half gaurd

@@delmassamba7645 most high level competitive black belts have a great "game" they play. The difference is Gordon uses his intelligence to solve problems. The guy doesn't have a set game. He legitimately understands how the human body moves and uses concepts to expose your weaknesses. Plus having Danaher as a coach I'd bet he'd win Gi Worlds next year if he tried.

I agree he would do well in gi but definitely would need to spend a couple more years training in it before he would have a chance of dominating. His body positioning is impeccable, but gi-to-nogi is usually an easier transition (like Meregali) than nogi-to-gi because there are a LOT of gripping details to learn for the gi. I don't hear anyone talking about MMA, not even Gordon anymore. MMA is a sport for explosive people, not isometrically strong people like Gordon and Roger.

No matter what anyone says, if you pour your heart into this sport for hard enough and long enough to get a black belt, only to get completely handled like a 2 stripe white belt, that has got to be disheartening. I reminds me of my first tournament at blue belt. I got walked through so hard that I saw exactly how much I didn't know despite thinking I was actually beginning to get good. They treated my like I wasn't even there and I felt like I was a day one white belt all over again!

But even still, by point wasn't about what his heaviest weight was, it was giving props to a guy that's probably giving up over 50lbs of weight and still looking like he knows what's going on. I'm not sure if you train or not, this isn't an insult to you. But anyone that's ever rolled with an extremely muscular athlete that weighs over 50lbs more than them understand how almost physically impossible that task is, much less someone anywhere even close to the skill level of GR.
