This was the warmup for 2005. As much as guys discount this era, without the Charmbracelet era we would not have had The Emancipation of Mimi being successful. 1. Charmbracelet World Tour got her vocals into tiptop shape to record The Emancipation of Mimi Album. Her vocals on TEOM were stronger and sounded completely natural in comparison to CB vocals(the only place where CB vocals beat Mimi vocals is only in vocal agility). Her voice on TEOM sounded like mature 1998 Butterfly era vocals which was a massive improvement. 2. Charmbracelet inspired the style of TEOM. Charmbracelet taught TEOM what to do and what not to do- her ballads on TEOM were birthed from CB: Subtle Invitation after being positively reviewed became the precursor to determine the direction of the ballads on Mimi. The rest of the album showed Mimi what not to do- cheesy schlocky long ass overproduced songs. Notice how Mimi songs were shorter, more precise and in the songs the hooks were catchy, great balance between the vocals and the beats with each sitting perfectly. Regardless, this might be an unpopular opinion but I think TEOM wouldn't have been nearly as successful as it was if It's Like That, We Belong Together and Shake It Off hadn't been on it. Those 3 songs are what made the album sell very strongly!!! So this era was very important. Without it there wouldn't be TEOM.

It's important in its own right, not just because of TEOM lol. Just because the album wasn't successful and Mariah doesn't like it anymore doesn't diminish the good elements of it (it stomped all over TEOM lyrically for example).

@@blooop9693 true. Lyrically CB took a big shit on TEOM but damn..musically and vocally...TEOM massacred CB. CB was good. It was just too personal in an unrelatable way for most people. That's why it flopped

This has always been my opinion! Mariah really got her confidence back during 2003/2004 and showed the world she was not to be fucked with vocally (even past her "prime".) MTV and VH1 also worked with her alot and her public image got better after Glitter.

@@aspire2inspire91 things started looking up when I Know what you want went to #3 on Billboard Hot 100 and U Make me Wanna went to #24. It gave Mimi a precursor on how times had evolved and how to structure her comeback. The choice to also allow for her raspy voice to sound as it did live on her record I feel was very pivotal in ensuring the success of Mimi. The whole world knew her voice wasn't the same since late 1996-late 1997. She used this as an advantage because she proved that regardless of the changes in her voice no body could fuck with her vocally. She was singing with every nook that she had left despite the changes.

She had the label and her marketing team in full force, which also was what made TEOM big. Doing a huge tour helped keep her in the tabloids around the world. She initially wasn't going to do a tour for her 2005 album. 18months later because of the #1 single DFAU she decided.

My favorite era as far as her looks go, would be 2002-2004. She was already attractive before that but I was just coming out of my teen years back then and was totally in love with "curvy, semi-thick" Mariah.
