“What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?” After hearing this question, it made me think about what I am willing to sacrifice for the truth and the values that we as Filipinos hold true up until this day. That was the main reason why I appreciated this speech because it didn’t focus on her achieving one of the most prestigious accolades in history but instead, she used the time to make us think about ourselves and the harsh realities our world faces today. A wake-up call is something that the world needs and she did it through this speech. The most courageous thing she did during this speech was when she called out the tech giants who have the greatest power and influence in the modern technological world. I’ve always believed that collectively, our micro efforts have macro effects but truth be told, if the biggest institutions in the world refuse to be part of this change then true and effective change will not be seen. In a world run by money and power, people like Maria Ressa stand out. This is why those who have the most money and power do everything to silence people like her because she sees past the money and the power and banners the truth and the values she holds in everything that she does. She continues to do her job to open our eyes and to be the change that we want to see and to call for change to those who choose and refuse to see these realities. As a student, I take this speech as a challenge to hold the line and always remember the values that our parents, teachers, and mentors teach us because it is through these values that we are able to create a better world of “...peace, trust, and empathy, bringing out the best we can be.” Today, we dream, but tomorrow we take action. Thank you, Maria Ressa.

This 20 minute speech has made me to believe that it takes a person to make thousands to start doing, this has made my values in life very clear to me. As someone young who lives in this kind of world today, I've never been more inspired to strive for a better one. And I hope I can make this place a better one to give justice to what was lost along the way.

Finally, we have the first Filipino recipient of the Nobel peace award, thanks to Maria Ressa. It is with pride and honor to credit all the sacrifices and standing for the truth of Maria Ressa. In her speech, Ressa challenged journalists to do just that. She claimed that simply because she is a journalist, she is unsure of what she will encounter when she returns to the Philippines. She made it clear that she adhered to three fundamental tenets of journalism: “Without facts, you can’t have truth; Without truth, you can’t have trust; Without trust, we have no shared reality; no democracy.” Truly, Ressa is an inspiration for us. I can say that she deserves the award. Amid the pandemic, hero doctors and health workers are battling to fight the threat of COVID-19. Ressa is also like them; she is also a modern hero and frontline who battles disinformation, seeks truth, and uncovers lies while holding the line. Furthermore, “the destruction has happened. Now it’s time to build - to create the world we want.” Let us open our eyes, as Ressa said, we have to make it happen, and let us hold the line together.

There are so many truths and facts around the world that are all omitted to prolong the greed of power-hungry individuals. Maria Ressa is a beacon of hope in this world that favors lies over the truth. She is an icon that is leading the fight against lies and to bring justice to the victims of lies. What an inspiring speech that touched my heart. Being a Journalist is indeed a risky job since it speaks about the truth. Yet, they are one of the bravest since they have the guts to challenge the problems that are occurring today. "What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?" A question that is deeply asked in each journalist, which in my opinion, is one of the scariest questions you can ask. Life and Death are usually involved in this, yet, journalists are ready to face it. It is inspiring to me as an everyday citizen that there are people out there fighting for what is right. It encourages me to speak up as well and protect those who are the victim of this injustice system.

If anything it's her plight for thoss going through injustice that inspire, not the "communism" that she is constantly bombarded at. “What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?” This question struck something in me as the remnants of the raging emotions from the recent election, once again blazed inside my heart. Maria Ressa fearlessly fought for the truth despite the consequences she faced and will face in the future. With a total of 10 arrest warrants and the constant danger of being a journalist, she never wavered and was never intimidated, but instead, was only strengthened to fight for the truth that we are painstakingly being robbed off. Her battle reminded me of the battle that we have experienced and are still experiencing especially during the campaign and election period. Having been able to open my eyes to what really happened in our history, it angers me how people are being fed with lies and misconceptions about our past that caused them to make wrong decisions just because they are stolen from the truth. Without facts, you can’t have the truth, without truth you can’t have trust, without trust we have no shared reality, no democracy. For years, our freedom has been protected and exercised, but with what is happening right now, it seems as if what we fought for in the past is being invalidated, history seems to be repeating itself, and as we fight for what is right, we are being silenced. Maria Ressa then reassures us that there is hope and we can do something to stop this pandemic of misinformation before our human tendencies become worse. Just like her, we can still fight our way to bring light upon the heavy clouds of deceit and manipulation that surround our nation. Starting with restoring our information ecosystems, spreading facts and truths, and giving utmost importance and protection to journalists that point us towards the truth. As Ressa has said, ”you don’t really know who you are until you are forced to fight with it”, freedom is what defines us, and it was brought upon us by those who fought for it in the past. As we accept and embark on a new chapter in this nation, we should not forget facts, because as it was said, “ang namulat, ay hindi na muling pipikit”, rather than ignoring and not believing our history and what is the truth, why not use it as a compass to navigate our nation to a brighter future. Because after all, “the truth is what would set us free”.

Maria Ressa, the first Filipino recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize in 2021, is indeed the best representative of every journalist who wholeheartedly sacrificed their lives to be bearers of truth, justice, and freedom not only in the Philippines but the entire world. Her bravery in unveiling facts that people in power try to conceal is never an easy task or decision to make. Each day, she’s living her life with an unjustifiable threat for the mere reason that she’s only doing her job and loving her country and its people. It is disheartening to hear that journalists who pour their heart into their passion for being the voice of the suppressed and revealing what is happening, in reality, are being silenced, harassed, and even killed. But knowing all this, from their struggles to their recognition, must serve as an inspiration to each one of us-especially the youth. This speech, without any doubt, piqued my interest and compelled me to fight for what is right regardless of what I have to sacrifice. Truly, it is now the time “to create the world that we want” and become advocates for peace, justice, and compassion. As Maria Ressa encourages us to imagine ourselves living in a realm that only seeks honesty and truth, we must urge the authorities to be held accountable for their unjust actions and to not abuse their power because all humankind deserves to live in a world that they are not afraid of. The absence of the law and democracy in our country is terribly alarming that is why we need to stand for each other, working hand-in-hand, to achieve a better world without biases, lies, and corruption, to make life worth living.

The entire speech was excellent, and what makes it so surprising is that it was given in front of some of the most influential individuals in the world. Maria Ressa showed bravery in exposing several problems with the government, notably in the Philippines. She embodies the ideal of a great journalist and is courageous in pursuing the truth and justice in our nation. She continues to battle for the truth and accuracy of the news despite criticism from our administration. Despite being accused by several social media sites, she continues to work for the welfare of the populace. She has the bravery to speak the truth, but I am also frightened for her safety. Ms. Ressa asserted that several journalists had perished in the Philippines due to their pursuit of the truth and defense. I hope she will not go through what the past journalists did. In her lecture, she addressed the transmission of false information and misinformation, noting social media's significant role in this process. According to Maria Ressa, the truth is crucial to democracy. Maria Ressa is a significant source of inspiration for us. She was often detained because she was a journalist, but that did not deter her from speaking the whole truth and nothing but the truth, even if it led to her release. One of her comments, which can motivate individuals to effect change, hit me: "What are you ready to give for the truth?" Maria Ressa desires to live in a peaceful society, but she also holds that trust and truth must be intertwined for peace to exist. It is good even in times of crisis, so search for it, share it, and if you cannot find any, be reasonable. She presented a t-shirt with the words "Believe there is good in the world," with the phrase "Be the good" emphasized. I respect the first recipient of our nation's Nobel Peace Prize because she places a high value on integrity while receiving news for her. And from one kulasa to another, Mabuhay ka at ang ibang mga journalistang gusto lamang ikalat ang kaganapan at katotohanan sa mundo. #DefendPressFreedom

Learning this from her may help us viewers to understand the world, and it also motivates people to speak the truth. Nowadays, discrimination is one of the problems that people are facing, but with the help of her speech, many people were given a chance to understand and engage with other people as well. She is a true inspiration and has motivated me to always speak the truth without fear, no matter the obstacles.

First of all, I would like to congratulate Maria Ressa for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. The work of a journalist is a really difficult job especially here in the Philippines because of the fact that their lives are also in danger whenever the journalists speak for the truth. The saying "kasalanan nang pumikit kapag namulat ka na sa katotohanan" is very true and their job to exposing the truth is really hard if they are facing a powerful person (politician, celebrity, etc.). The powerful person can manipulate the truth because they have the power, money and communication to different people in almost everything. If the journalists (including Maria Ressa) did not bravely do their jobs, how we will know the truth? So let us help Maria Ressa's vision to have a peaceful world where journalists don't have to be in danger and the truth shall always prevail.

As a junior journalist (Blue and White) I am amazed because of how strong she is despite the dangers of being a journalist. She truly deserves the award as she stood up for our fellow journalists. It truly is amazing that we have Ms. Maria Ressa as the first Filipino to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 2021, her speech starts with how risky and important journaling is in our society nowadays. With her clear voice and brilliant mind, she expresses her whole point in just a few sentences that are impactful and long-lasting. It is inspiring to see a representation of our community, the Filipino community, receiving a prize with such high significance and importance. Ms. Maria Ness goes into detail about her experience as a journalist for 35 years, the struggles she faced, and the achievements she had gotten through over the years, no matter how big or small. She even shines a light on the cruel reality other journalists have faced by being kidnapped, challenged, threatened, put into prison, and murdered. All of it points to the notion that people like Maria Nessa are out there, devoting their whole life just to seek the truth that our world so desperately hides. People like Maria Nessa give us hope and courage to always do what is right and that freedom and justice must always prevail. We should as ourselves, "What are you/we willing to sacrifice for the truth?".

Maria Ressa delivered an admirable speech, it opens the reality of what journalists are facing each breath they live; what they may face for revealing the truth to the public, the struggles of being a journalist in a democratic country that tries to silence them, the increasing usage of technology and utilize it as a tool against facts did not make it easier for her and other journalists out there. But as like what she said in her speech, it is all worth it even if she’s facing a lawsuit that may put her into 100-year imprisonment. It is truly indeed very outstanding of her to face the corrupt politicians who tried to silence her. Even receiving death threats, facing lawsuits every day, and the thoughts of going home not knowing what will become the next day as she wakes up, will not stop her from being a journalist. As like what she said, “What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?”.

We often see laureates standing on the podium and retelling the story of their successes, how they came to be and what made them into who they are with the purpose to inspire and express gratitude as the Nobel Prize is the greatest recognition that anybody could ever ask for. But the main objective of the 2021 Nobel Laureate, Maria Ressa was different. She stood amongst the most brilliant, and the most revered individuals, grounded by the passion to deliver only and nothing but the truth. She took such as an opportunity to honor journalists who exchanged safety with veracity, to vindicate the press from the deceit and suppression made by the people in power, to take a stand against the intimidation made by those who cower and fear the broadcast of honesty and to deliver facts to enlighten every individual who is kept in the dark. And for this, I have nothing to say but thank you. Today, I am confronted by the reality that we truly are vulnerable to the attacks of misinformation as our lives are being manipulated by the most influential technology companies and government officials. The easiest response must be to give in and accept that we have lost, but we are also challenged to take on the difficult endeavor of fighting for the freedom that was taken against our will. Maria Ressa is a testament that the truth can defy all odds, may it be the cruel suffocation of the government, the threat of being permanently silenced, the fear of imprisonment, or the malicious intentions of those who fear accountability. Let her be a beacon of courage, compassion, and dedication as she imparted the most significant and relevant message that we are in desperate need to be reminded of: our humanity is not lost. The obstructions that we are facing at the present might seem insurmountable but if we all open our eyes to the truth and start to act upon the mission of rebuilding the trust in information, anything is possible.

Maria Ressa is an inspiration to all of us. She is the epitome of a great journalist; she is brave regarding truth and justice in our country. Despite being criticized by our government, she is still fighting for the good and validity of the news; blamed by many social media platforms, she is still fighting for the good of the people. She tackled the propagation of misinformation and disinformation in her speech, in which she said that social media plays a huge part in spreading them. Truth for Maria Ressa is an essential thing regarding democracy. I have a huge inspiration when it comes to Maria Ressa. Despite being arrested many times due to being a journalist did not stop her from telling the truth and nothing but the truth, even if it resulted in her freedom. Now take Facebook and the many libelous accusation against political candidates posted on its platform. Have they been held accountable? Hardly. Calling someone 'bitter' makes no argument. There is also no hard and fast argument traditional media has monopolized information even to begin with. Maria Ressa delivered a brilliant speech. The fact that she exposed to the whole world the corruptions and power abuse by certain governments especially in the Philippines. That ability of her may have been the greatest weapon she used to claim the highest award known to the world, the Nobel Peace Prize. And also the fact that the previous journalist who was awarded the same award was way back in 1935, unfortunately was imprisoned by Hitler and wasn't been able to claim his award in 1936, amazing. Although, I admire her for her courage and brave exposures, I admit that I am concerned with her safety especially when she mentioned her fellow journalist who have been kidnapped, murdered, mutilated, and forced to prison. She even mentioned that they've managed to survive FIVE years of government attacks, the same government who murdered dozens of innocents then branding them as drug lords. Her closing statement is where that struck me the most wherein she said "The destruction has already begun, now is the time to create the world we want.... a world of peace and empathy."
