The 25th Shanghai International Film Festival opened on Friday with no shortage of glitz and glamor on the red carpet.
Among the top-name celebrities and filmmakers from China and abroad who graced the red carpet at the Shanghai Grand Theater were mainland filmmaker Chen Kaige, British actor Jason Statham, Chinese-American pop sensation Kris Phillips, Hong Kong actors Chow Yun-fat and Nicholas Tse, and mainland star Shen Teng.

Love to see the Red Carpet presentation of the stars, more personal than the awards portion. I see a lot of ads interrupt, but as these events become more in demand, ads are expected, understood. Happy 25th year SIFF.

This movie festival is still too local. Most attendees, spoken languages, and even journalists along the red carpet are Chinese，quite a self-amuse “international” movie festival.

1/4 of worlds people are not self ammuse. Don't think Hollywood's movies festivals attend by the whole world. Seldom seen Russian , African, Latin Americans, Arabian or Asian people in these events.

This is China film festival, of course its language spoken is Chinese language.

@@lisa.e5776 Of course I know Hollywood is mainly for Americans. But take a look at the top three international movie festivals, like this year’s Cannes Movie Festival, it’s a real pageantry that attracts stars from all over the world. As for the language speaking, no problem with Chinese primarily, but too much Chinese language because the majority of people on scene are Chinese.

@@leidong3742 why must it have to be compared to top western film festivals? The world has been Eurocentric and america-centric for the past 70 years. Tokyo and Busan International Film Fests are also mostly conducted in their native tongues. When the world order changes we will see more events conducted in a variety of languages and not dominated by one.

@@asj685 No matter compare with others or not, the truth is there: its name is “international festival”. Using more of English language to host or to communicate on scene is better compliant with “international”. Plus, it’s obvious that there is still a large space for China’s international movie festivals to make progress, even though you don’t want to compare them with top ones.
