That was my first thought. They divorced 3 years ago because they couldn’t agree on care for their son. And the stress was too much. A year later he found OP and basically decided to edge her into caring for the son so that once he thought it was a good enough time, dumped the kid on her and ran back to his ex wife. If this is real, then it was a calculated move on his and his ex’s part to abandoned their son. Glad OP reported him and his ex for abandonment.

The grandparents giving OP a place isn't generosity, it's manipulation and convenience, albeit stemming from a good place. Everyone needs to be upfront about what their motivations and priorities are. Ex will face a few legal ramifications but ultimately will walk away and get what he wants. He should be held accountable and required to return to state, be involved with his son or face jail time. Unless she's being compensated like being given the house, OP is getting finessed by her ex and his parents, who can kick her out at the first disagreement.

Yes she didn't get a house, doesn't sound like they transfered ownership. They are letting her stay there because she is an unpaid carer for their grandchild.

My sympathies lie with op. But the biggest victim here is the son. That little boy didn't deserve to be abandoned by both of his biological parents. I'm just glad the little man has a family that loves him and is willing to sit through the hardships just to give him the stability he needs

Being subjected to the tender mercies of CPS and the Foster Care system are a freakin' nightmare even for normal, healthy, well-adjusted kids. I can't imagine what an autistic child would experience.

Who wants to bet that once the kid is older like a teen and has learned to cope and regulate his emotions and autism enough that he doesn't need constant care from another his egg and spern doner suddenly show up wanting to play perfect family and be his parents? OP needs the house ownership transfered into her name and when custody is fully worked out I hope OP can legally adopt the son and egg and spern doner are barred from custody.

Why? I was there when a nonverbal autistic child spoke his first word. It was the name of the horse he was riding at therapy- "Bert." I will never forget that moment. His parents and the therapists were having an anti-meltdown; streams of joyful tears. Me? I was fine, but I must have gotten some hay dust or horeshair in my eyes, as they were watering and I had to keep rubbing them. 🥺

Sometimes the in-laws are decent human beings. A woman in my hometown was being abused by her husband. His parents disowned him, and opened their home and their hearts to their DIL and their grandkids. Cue tears and butthurt from their disowned abusive POS son- "It's not fair!!!"

Just a little constructive criticism: you're not sourcing these from Reddit from the looks of it, as this same story appears on many channels, but none have a link to the post and it's not on Reddit or Reddit Archives. And this is pretty transparently fake. The number of stories that end with "I don't know what the future holds..." is ridiculous. That's some lazy blogging, nobody speaks like that, lol. The husband abandoned his house, he's not selling it or anything? The OP who works part-time can keep up with the expenses? Even assuming there's no mortgage, the taxes and utilities alone would likely be beyond her financial abilities. And even if she could, why would she pay for a home to which she doesn't hold Title? Are the father or mother paying for the kid while presumably changing careers, buying a new home in a new location, etc? OP likely would have walked away from the situation, most people would. So he would have known the kid would end up with his parents or in foster care. Why not simply make those arrangements himself? What was the function of setting someone up if it was likely all going to end the same? When OP was wondering if he was coming back, the first thing Reddit would have asked is "Did he takes his Passport, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate with him. You'd think out of all the Redditors out there, at least one would have asked the obvious questions. And it would take a very long time for the grandparents to obtain custodial guardianship, even if it's uncontested, it still takes months to get a hearing, and then the child would be living with them. In the interim, they would be placed in a foster home, not allowed to stay with a non-custodial guardian who is effectively squatting in her ex's home. I don't mind fictional stories, but these aren't even remotely plausible.

Gorillas and Chimpanzees can't physically speak- but teach them sign language, and WOW! Koko the gorilla actually learned to swear all on her own. Her trainer/teacher/keeper Peter was asking her to do something she didn't want to do. So she made the sign for "Peter" and then the sign for (poop). AI doesn't write half this well. The AI written SciFi stories break continuity constantly. They don't even make sense. They're like a bad movie (Starcrash) where the pieces of dialog that held the supposed plot together ended up on the cutting room floor. LOL always reminds me how Winston Smith, the protagonist in George Orwell's "1984", had a job operating a novel-writing machine. AI would have put him out of a job.

But if somebody posted to Reddit "I facepalmed" or "I LOLed" that would be more believable? I went through some bad s**t a couple years ago I'm not ready to share on Reddit. But when I do, if I put my face in my hands and wept like a lost child after I got some news (which I did) that's just how I'm going to write it. Because I'll be telling a story. I could write several paragraphs of what I remember from being at work on 9/11/2001. I even remember chunks of conversations. I can still see the looks on people's faces when somebody remembered we had coworkers in the Towers. I could go into so much detail. Would that sound fake to you?
