Welcome to Chateau de la Ferte. In this video we give you a full tour of the inside of the chateau. A run down of all the work we have done so far, and an insight into the future work that we plan to do. I sent one of your recent videos to a friend in Romania who has a historic house (not chateau). She has been doing self restoration on her windows, which are very similar to yours. She also wants to work on her old parquet floors. She is very impressed by both of you- your knowledge and artistry. Absolutely amazed at Adrian's ability to reconstruct the salon parquet floor.

Adrian - That floor in the salon is GORGEOUS! You are almost finished with that room you two! You have been working so diligently to finish it, I'm so excited for you! I"ll bet finishing the utility room will be a cakewalk in comparison ! I loved seeing the floorpans, and your front door! The grill and colors turned out perfectly, and it is BEAUTIFUL! I remember when these rooms were raw. You have accomplished a lot even though there’s still a lot to do. I bet the chateau is happy you are making it pretty again. Those wallpaper selections are so lovely! What fun it is when owners share their gracious homes so we can glimpse the beauty that the well-to-do created in yesteryear. I wish I could go chateau-hopping, scrape off lichens and peeled paint here and there, lend a hand in rescuing all this beauty. This looks like the chateau that vlogger Michael Petherick featured when it was for sale; is it? It is not big and complex, but it is lovely to behold.

On the top floor - that's actually not a pissoire, but what in Vienna is called a 'bassena'. Usually this was on the corridor of multi family town houses and the only place to fetch water. The water was then used in the kitchen or bed rooms. The grid on the bottom of the bassena was to put a bucket there, so one could fill it up. Thank you for providing those floor plans! Really appreciate it - since it is so hard to come by floor plans of such smaller chateau's.

So many today give a slap and tickle or shortcuts and quick fixes to their projects, nice to see the diligence and attention to detail from you. I'm from a generation of folks who believe that any job worth doing is worth doing well and I can see you believe the same. Stunning work and outcome. I've enjoyed watching you but I can't say I envy you yet. I'm sure I will once it's done. I'm an old broad so taking on a task like you have, well that's just not going to happen. Wonderful video, love seeing all the improvements and what is to be. This is a true labor of love. I love kitchens so I am looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the coming future videos. You are a true loving family having the bedrooms & baths made ready for your girls and grandson to be comfortable when they visit. Carole and Adrian, Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. You are doing such a great job. I had an opportunity to watch the full series of " The hidden treasures of Britains Grandest Country Houses on Real Royalty on You tube. These beautiful homes reminded me very much of your home. I noticed the same parquet floor as yours and the standing lumiere with the top that some say is missing on yours although I dont think it adds much. The Salon is coming along beautifully. It seems in very old houses, everything takes twice as long as expected. My brothers home is 122 yrs. And the kitchen took 10 months, instead of 6 months. It was like opening Pandoras Box. Floor joists, ceiling joists, lord knows what else. But know you understand. “No job is an easy job” 😂😂😂 The upstairs hallway is just stunning. Wow! Of course you have a TV in the bedroom!! The moldings are so unique all thru the chateau. Stunning 😍

Thank you for this video! Very well put together Beth, especially adding the floor plans in made it so easy to keep up where you were taking us and the layout including the views. The salon will be amazing and all your hard work will pay off. I live the light in the small toilet, it's perfect. As someone who favors silver to gold, I'm loving Beth's room the most. It's beautiful. Something I think would look fantastic in the stairwell would be a waterfall type chandelier with strings of light coming down from top to bottom. It probably wouldn't go with the restorative work done in the rest of the chateau. My favorite part is how you go down to the bones to fix things that will make this chateau shine for another few hundred years. No cover ups or easy paths for yall and it will pay off. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey.

Sometimes other chatelaines whine about costs which surely they must have anticipated - most building works go over budget and these chateaux are exceptionally huge buildings!! I totally understand your wish to make this beautiful building whole again. One of the advantages is that it's not such a huge place compared with so many other chateaux - but seriously even so, keeping all of that place warm in winter is going to be a huge problem. I guess you will likely do what most do - just warm the rooms you use when the weather is cold. I think these places are just too big for a normal family to live in, but that will not stop your ambitions I know ! What you are doing is a great thing however, so good luck with finishing it all one day !

Carole and Adrian, thank you for the re-cap, it helps us get a better idea of the chateau, when you are discussing what has been done and where. You have done a lot more than I had originally thought, it looks great, I love the color scheme in Beth's room. The top floor can wait, but I imagine what you do to it will be perfect. Soon the salon will be finished, I can't wait for the original kitchen to get underway. I hope it will have the modern conveniences for function, but the old-world charm of the chateau's year.
