This is the first course in the series Mastering Nuke: Your First Shot. In this course, you will learn how to assemble and finalize a full CG shot and through the process, you will discover the powerful tools of Nuke and its interface.
No previous experience or knowledge is required. Every step is carefully commented and explained with the goal to make you a compositor in just a few hours.
The author is Florian Girardot, a senior visual effect artist specialized in Compositing who has been working in the movie industry for more than 10 years. Some of his recent projects include Deadpool 2, Detective Pikachu and Spiderman Far From Home among others.
This course has been designed for beginners, or for people who don’t do compositing very often, and in general for people who would like to learn how to create visual effects like the ones we see in major Hollywood productions.
This entire curriculum is based on the author’s both professional and teaching experience. In the author’s own words:
I believe in practice to understand and learn concepts, so each course in the series will be based on a concrete shot example. On the top of learning new techniques and achieving something real, you’ll be able to use the shots you’ve done in your demo-reel!
I’m very excited to tell you that, at the end of this series, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to work on feature film quality shots.
Some of the things you’ll learn:
-Understand the Nuke interface
-Discover the logic of nodal compositing
-Assemble render layers with the merge nodes
-Discover some of the most important nodes and effects
-The basic of color correction in Nuke
-Understand Channels, Alpha, AOVs

Phenomenal! Looking to migrate from Aftereffects to a nodal system and this tutorial is exactly what I needed. And taught from someone who really knows their stuff. Appreciate the baby steps and the fact that the tutorial is based around an actual mini project/shot.

Be persistent. In the first couple of years it's going to be very hard to fid work (unless you are in an area where there is a shortage of artist), even when you do you may end up in a place that's got so many projects running that no one wants to take time to help you. You're probably going to feel like a burden on people, and become worried that your art isn't good enough to cut it or that you don't have as much passion as some of the other people in the office. The hours they'll make you work will be ridiculous, they might not pay your overtime. They might not pay you at all if it's an internship (take it anyway, in fact, offer it if you have no experience at all). You'll likely burn out and get replaced like nothing. You're going to be tempted to give up, and chances are you're going to drift into a mental position defeatism like you never had a chance in the first place. I call this the "bullshit excuses" phase. What you do is get over it, shut up and keep trying, even if you're working a crap job for X number of years while no one in the industry is responding to your CVs just keep trying. Eventually you get something, for what ever reason, maybe by sheer luck alone. That little thing helps you get the next little thing. Things start to change, slowly it gets easier. Enough small jobs add up and someone finally offers you a better contract with better pay. People start to respect your skill, because it's gotten better over years of struggle. You start to understand the industry better, and how to survive it, valuable knowledge for any employee and employers know it. And one day, after a whole lot of work and persistence, you'll wake up and it'll be the companies calling you to ask if you're interested in joining them. The only thing that is capable of stopping you is yourself, and you are the most cunning enemy you will ever face, be diligent. Be persistent.

@@shaydensaldanha711 Being small is not a bad thing, everyone starts off small, but feeling small / thinking small won't help you. Be like a dwarf, small body (or in this case experience), big character. Find yourself a giant to stand on, look to the horizon for a good mountain, and then dive into it and make it YOUR home. Don't listen to the goblins in your head, they're a bunch of Gitz.

I'm kinda struggling a little because the workflow is a little bit different (But easier than those who comes from after effect/non user of node-based compositing software :P), but your tutorials makes it easier! Hey all, absolutely amazing tutorial and amazing teacher, never understood so clearly until now! Obviously not expecting the channel or artist to respond to this comment but would appreciate some advice from the community here! When Florian amended the B-Box of the Lense Flare file, he used a reformat node, followed by a crop node. However, when changing the B-Box of the other files, he used the crop node first without a reformat! I was wondering what the reason was for not using the reformat node to change the size of the other files and instead just cropping those pixels out? Just threw me off a little as I wasn't sure of the purpose of the two nodes at that point or how they work together! Thank you all in advance!

Honestly thats what i want to do when i learn 3d software, i dont want to add text and move it around for entire course, i want to do shot that looks fantasy even just 10s, this guy and robby branham both have teaching skill that make people want to learn, they wont say nonsense thing like " i dont know, go play around with it" when they showing the menu feature like many guys on udemy, they will show you " ah this menu works like this, you can use this for this case or that case", not many people have high skill, and even have high skill, not many people know how to teach.
