I've had a few people asking me for longer videos, so I thought I'd put this up as a bit of an experiment.
It's the same video as my main channel, but it's twice as long because it doesn't have all the cuts and fast-forwarding. There's also none of that stupid singing nonsense, which is nice.
Essentially, this is a first draft and is as un-edited as it can be without being awfully slow and painful*
Personally, I prefer the snappier edited version, but what do I know?! More importantly, let me know what you think!

*may still be awfully slow and painful

Nice. I actually like both formats tbh. As a newbie to electronics repair, watching these longer videos encourages me to continue to learn. If it takes pro's over an hour to diagnose and repair something, I shouldn't feel bad if it takes me 3 hours.

Yes! 100% yes to longer video's. It gives great insight to your way of approaching a repair. This teaches us even more than the main video. And gives me a more realistic view on how long it can take to do these things. Love to see more of these 'uncut' versions. Although i also like the quick and sped up ones

the battery terminals are just gonna corrode again unless you re-plate them. and the best way to remove the corrosion is to desolder them and then soak them in a rust removal solution (specifically for this type of corrosion) before re-plating them.

I enjoy the short form version but do appreciate a longer video like this one on occasion. My honest thought about this sort of thing is that you should do whichever version makes you happier. It's no fun watching a guy do something he doesn't enjoy. My favorite auto repair channel, mustie1, basically went the way of the long video, and now his short videos are an hour an fifteen. He prefers it, seems to be happier making videos, and is getting through more projects. That said, I can't dedicate two and a half hours to watching a youtube video, so I rarely get to see what he makes anymore.

*TIP* Buy A Packet Of Assorted Toothbrushes, Start with a soft brush dipped in Vinegar and or Isopropylarene and progress to a firmer brush only if the soft brush fails to loosen crud, In fact I dont use cotton swabs any more as I found using a Toothbrush over a paper towel soaks up Flux wonderfully, No more cotton fibres left on the PCB when cleaning up. APU 👁👍

@StezStix, really like your videos, cause there's always a bit of learning process in it. Just some tips here, better not use IPA to clean plastic. Some plastic reacts bad with IPA and get britle. Like transparent pieces for example. If there is a small crack, IPA can get it much worse. Just disassemble all things out of the shell and give it a nice clean with soap, brush and water. Would also recommend putting the screws over night in vinegar or eqiivalent. And for the battery clamps, better desoldering them and also get in touch over night with vinegar. If really destructed, you can get cheap replacements for this. For the pads - you can use higher temp glue and before soldering parts on it, make it stronger by using soldering mask around it and keep a part free for soldering. Works also with copper tape. For making traces visible in that case, hard grinding is not really good. Have you tried a carbon fibre pencil? Works fine and is not that destructive. You can "erase" the solder mask to make traces visible. I really appreciate your work and all the fun in it. Sometimes it's like watching myself in a mirror. It's not stupid. But yeah, it's stupid at the end, but... :D

Steven! I have seen other videos where the device gets fried when you connect the bench power supply leads before turning it on. There’s an initial pulse of voltage that exceeds what your setting is. I think Vince did that once. But apparently you’re supposed to turn on the BPS then connect the leads. Keep up the good work!

For that lifted pad, I would have left it soldered to the capacitor while gluing it down. It was aligned perfectly, and made it easy to hold the pad in place while gluing.

I like both formats. Vinegar's real strength comes with time. Letting things soak in vinegar for 12 or 24 hours generally does a complete rust removal (especially if it's minor).

Using the grinder is pretty destructive. Chris Hertford has the right ideal with the battery terminals. I would have de-soldered them and soaked the parts in vinegar until the corrosion and nickel is stripped off. Then nickel plate it again.

Nice to see a full video. But personally when it comes to sorting out the corrosion on the battery terminals you would have been better off ordering replacement one and unsoldering the old ones and putting new ones in. Also sometimes there can be no sound as the headphone jack port can be stuck in the open position. That means if you inserted a headphone in you would hear sound. And when the headphone is removed it’s connector move and bridges itself to go through the actual speaker. This is coz if corrosion and it needs to be freed up and ipa will do the job
@KB1UIF

It would probably have been a good idea to remove the screen earlier than you did, Steve. Also, wash everything you soaked in vinegar with IPA also, no, not Indian Pale Ale !! I was wondering if an ultrasonic cleaner would help in removing some of that awful corrosive green crap? Oh and a smear of petroleum jelly on the battery contacks helps in preventing future corrosion. Other than that, great job and video, Steve !!

Hey Stez, i like the video, but when you are working those terminals, please, please take them out. It’s a 2 minute solder job. After that put them in vinegar, and all the corrosion will disappear while you clean the board. After that, put them back with fresh solder. Much cleaner and no removed top layer as you are doing with the dremel. Other than that, nice job and keep it up! The video’s are….. SOLID!

*ADDENDUM* You can electroplate some nickel back to the battery Terminals By sending a voltage Via some nickel sulphate Solution from a Donor Nickel coated metal placed on one terminal and on the other terminal your Battery Terminals, the voltage polarity decides if you strip your Battery terminal from the nickel coating or it gets coated by the donor, yeah I forgot which way around so a quick google might help you with that..

Howdy Steve, I really enjoy your videos, and the disassembly raps are great! Just a tip for corroded metal parts, to fully restore them and prevent them from rusting to bits later on, desolder the parts and use a polishing wheel and compound to remove the corrosion instead of a die grinder(does a lot less damage), and re-tin them using liquid tin. That will restore them to new and protect them in the long run. 👍
