Thank you, Katie! I don’t have a rotary yet, but I know I will be rewatching this video when once I make the purchase. Also, I would love to see anything illustrator especially very basic things like how to set up your work space, explaining stroke and expand. Why you use them. Thank you!

Hi. Thanks for the video. It was super helpful. One thing I do to avoid distortion is to do the cup in 2 sections. The top step to dimensions it needs and the bottom step at the dimensions it needs. I always try to ensure my design doesn’t fall on that about half inch strip right at the step down.

31:33 Hold shift and click the color in the window on the right and it will select all in that layer, that way you don’t have to try to deselect your tool layer. Great video.

I would love help figuring out how to design out the taper squish like you were talking about at the end of the video! Hopefully someone has some insight on that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 9 ай бұрын
Hi! So you're wanting to avoid the squish? Basically, you need to think about the design in two parts and stretch the elements that will hit on the bottom portion - I've heard 20-30% can work, but I haven't tested it

I think the next lightburn update is supposed to have a warp taper tool.
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 7 ай бұрын
@@tinarichardson8085 I don’t think that solves this problem exactly though, because the design still needs to fit in a box as big as the largest part of the design. Definitely will check it out!

Thank you for this tutorial. would you say that light burn is the better software to use over the manufacturers software? 2nd, would these instructions be that same for other machines? lol, even though all lasers are not created equal. we are using the wecreat vision. Thank you, Katie, for your time.
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 5 ай бұрын
Lightburn is great because it can be used across machines, so you learn it once and you're set. And for your second question - depends on which part, generally, yes, these instructions apply for any laser!

At 14:45 you said run a framed job within lightburn to test where your logo is. Can you explain this? I do user origin at the top of handles and have the large rectangle as a tool path. But how do I get lightburn to just frame the logo box from the tab box origin to help verify that I have it set up properly?
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 7 ай бұрын
You’ll send just the frame box(as a took layer) and the logo box to the controller, no design included. That will allow you to just frame the logo, make sense?

Do u have to taper the design I don't see any doing that but how does it not over lap on the bottom I can't wrap my head on that lol I have been watching videos alll day
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 5 ай бұрын
Oh my goodness - it took me a really long time to wrap my head around it. If you think about the way that the laser head moves while the rotary is turning, it doesn't know that the area is smaller. I started turning a cup in my hands like it does in the rotary and the line is still a straight line. It compresses vs. overlapping.

Circumference top:circumference bottom will give you your ratio for how wide things need to be changed to make them look similar in size 😊 Ex: Say a 40oz tumbler is 315 mm around on top and 236 mm on bottom 236/315= 75% or 0.75 or a ratio of 3:4 (every 3 mm on bottom(b) is 4 mm for on top(t)) So: 3(b) = 4(t) So for graphics made for the top to figure our what size the lower ones are: (b)=4(t)/3 A top graphic that is 6mm wide would need to be 8mm wide (math below) 4(6mm)/3 = b 24/3 = b 8 = b

Just so I understand, how would I apply this math in actual production. What I mean is, avoiding skewed graphics on the bottom vs the top would require what? An offset? I can’t thank you enough for posting the math but conceptually I’m stumped as to how to apply it. Any perspective you can add would be welcome if you ever happen to see this.
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 7 ай бұрын
@@TheLumberJacked You'd need to separate out the top half from the bottom half of the design and then adjust the graphics in the bottom half, while keeping them within the bounding box of the whole tumbler, so you may need to remove elements to make it fit. For example - if you had 10 circles on the bottom that you needed to stretch, you might need to reduce it to 8 to have them still fit. Does that help?
@Saltysteele
@Saltysteele 6 ай бұрын
If you determined the shrink (resultant circumference divided by original), could you then multiply by that %? If it shrinks 27%, could you then multiply the original width by 127%? I will have to try
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 6 ай бұрын
@@Saltysteele That could likely work! I generally don't find the "squish" bad enough to make the effort - but on something like a soccer ball, i could be worth it to do the work!

How do you not ruin a yeti when you use just the tape without tinfoil? I have ruined 2 now, the laser is marking through the painters tape. there’s literally nothing shown in the tape but when I remove it, there’s my design😮. So my power is too low to even see on the tape… what am I doing wrong?

I’m not sure the blue tape method will work with a diode laser - might be absorbing that blue light - I’m only running CO2
@BillDownsAlpha

For diode lasers ( like xTool - I have a S1/40W ) substitute with GREEN painters tape. I use 5% and 440+ speed. Works as expected.
