Hell yes, brother. This is going to be a wild ride. I would differentiate Bending from Alchemy as - Bending: Use your soul and martial arts to bend a specific element. Alchemy: Is there thing? Are you smart enough to make thing into other thing? Also not sure how it will translate but to help, the leader's name is first name King last name Bradley. His title is Fuhrer. It sounds weird when you hear it at first as Fuhrer King Bradley.

I really the fact they this has bending of the elements but doesn't have restrictions on it in terms of gore.

YESSSSS the anime equivalent of ATLA in terms of quality

2 things so you're not confused since they never elaborate on it. No spoilers: "King Bradley" is his name. King is not a title. It's literally his name. His rank is Fuhrer. The lightning you kept seeing wasn't lightning alchemy. The sparks always show up as a result of any alchemy being performed.

FMAB is considered the Avatar of anime

This is the first reaction I'm ever watching of a show I haven't seen before. I just finished watching this episode 10 minutes before you uploaded. We're in this together! My reaction to this one: Wow that was a uh... different kind of bloodbending.

This show is, together with Avatar: The Last Airbender, the closest ive ever gotten to finding a show thats perfectly enjoyable. What i mean by that is: neither show is objectively perfect, but their flaws dont touch in any way the level of enjoyment the show gave me. FMAB was in fact perfect to me for quite a while. Took me tons of reaction series before i started noticing certain things that were a bit off or annoying. Honestly, its one of the very best out there.

YES! I'm so excited you're reacting to FMAB. It's widely considered a masterpiece in the anime community. Avatar then Korra then FMAB? You're killing it with the series picks dude.

The dub is fantastic, great cast of voice actors. This first episode is a good sample of what the series is like. Intense action scenes, intense emotional scenes like Ed's flashback, mysterious figures, the lingering effects of war on the soldiers. Very well constructed. Love finding new reaction series to this show.

The thing, Alex, is that some of the first episodes pay off really late in Brotherhood, and for obvious reasons, FMA has the "original creator's vision" in the first episodes, and FMA:B has the complete series without that slow worldbuilding, you're just yanked into the story. Also, welcome to my world of listening 'kono omoi wo keshite shimau ni wa' and yelling back "MADA ISSEKAI NAI DESHOU!"

The first half of the original FMA more closely follows the first part of the manga and takes more time to let those stories unfold, in large part because it was running out of source material as the manga was still being published when it was in production. FMA: Brotherhood tends to skip over or abridge those same early stories, so you blast through those early manga plotlines much more quickly here. That said, while I personally think one story in particular is better told in the original FMA because it allows us to spend more time with the characters and letting the narrative to unfold, in the end, its only really this one story that has any significant impact on the storyline from the manga as a whole (trying to be deliberately ambiguous since you;ve seen neither). All the others that are mostly standaloneish eps, and are abridged or skipped by FMA: Brotherhood because they aren't overall that important in the end. Also, this is just me personally, but im not a fan of this first episode of FMA Brotherhood. Its new and not from the manga, created just for this series; and in many ways is a bit more spoilery/ a bit too smug in how it hints at future storylines and characters than it should.

I'm about to lose my MIND, this is one of my favorite shows of all time and I can't wait for this and to see your take on the story and characters!

I'm just going to say this right away, since you'll hear too many people say brotherhood rushes the beginning. They are actually comparing it to the 2003 anime which actually stretches out the story from the manga. While brotherhood does make a few questionable changes in removing a couple side stories, adding a filler first episode that introduces too many characters all at once, and moving a few scenes to happen earlier, the issue was never that it was rushing.

I will say pay attention to the music, I LOVE THE MUSIC in this show

Also, just a heads-up, some episodes have scenes after the credits, sometimes pretty significant ones. Episodes 1, 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 49 all have one. If I missed any please correct me.

This is my favorite blind reaction series to FMAB because you really understand the concepts and themes the show gives you while logically musing what happens next. I love that your reactions aren't stagnated by asking too many questions in between scenes, and that you take time to delve into character motivation. I think you also pick up on themes and storyline quicker than most people; that is, Ed's flawed motivation, alchemy rules, and villains. You're very perceptive, and having watched your reactions multiple times has only reaffirmed my respect for your reaction videos. It makes watching back Brotherhood difficult to spoil because, for the most part, you're almost always on the right track.

Right before Armstrong showed up, I was thinking, "Oh, he's going to love Alex Louis Armstrong, the Strong Arm Alchemist." Lol! I'm glad you went with Brotherhood. The 2003 anime is good--it's what introduced me to the series, after all, and I loved it dearly. But after rewatching it recently, I realized it's more macabre than I remembered, whereas Brotherhood is just a really fun action/adventure/growth story, and is my favorite version now. :) I really hope you enjoy it! Sounds like it's off to a good start!

Like other people have mentioned, the primary issue with the FMA: Brotherhood anime is that it presumed that you were either read the manga or watched the intro arc of the 2003 anime (before it diverged from the manga and became its own thing), so condenses most of the first arc into a couple of episodes and entirely skips one of the brother's earliest missions-but the characters are referenced and later make appearances as if they were indeed in Brotherhood the whole time.

I have never watched Full Metal Alchemist yet, but I've heard great things about it and am looking forward to watching it with you!

Alchemy is the act of controlling and reforming the physical universe arround you to your desire. Your imaginatio and laws of nature are the limit. Thing about alchemy tho is that you can't create anything from nothing, you must take something and reshape it to something else of same value.

I'm excited to see another person discovering this for the first time :D I recently rewatched the entire series twice, once in Japanese, once in English, after already having watched it 3 times before XD yes it's really that good. Just wait, the next episode...oh man
