This is a very elaborate and great setup. I love the Fat Dragon Games terrain, they are very nice to play with. As soon as you showed the Fog Monster I was wondering which method of fogging they used. Fog machines use special liquid which is heated to create a dense fog. This will leave a little residue. I prefer to use those little ultrasonic devices that create cold steam. Good thing is that this 'steam' is cold so it will hardly condensate on your terrain but it will also evaporate quickly so there is less of a fogging effect. What is nice, is that these things are small, cheap and can run on batteries so they are easier to include in your terrain.

Fine work. Your commitment is daunting. We're in a similar position, 1370'is DR fall of Nesmé, fleeing down Rauvin/Surbin towards Sword Coast.

This is absolutely amazing! So much work for this! Something I'd thought of to have the map not be revealed is to use blankets, probably several separate ones and not too thin so they leave indents to the rooms. Let them act as "fog of war" and you reveal bits of it by rolling the blankets or removing the sections to the halls and rooms they'd be aware and see. Not perfect, but would certainly keep much later parts of the map concealed until they've "earned" to see it.

The water wheel is not useless, actually. I had a drakewarden ranger whose drake was made of fire. He jumped into the forge and I spinned the wheel to make the machine work. The fire was hot enough to burn some of the ghouls we were fighting. It required some workarounds, but the DM made it work and it was lots of fun. Btw the map is awesome, well done!

You should put a tube that goes from under the map and hook up the fog machine from there. That way, you get fog coming out of the floor.

You spent a great deal of time on this , if you would like to have 'fog' in certain areas you could put a freezer unit ( standard reverse Rankine cycle re-purposed freezer unit would work ) under the table with tubes from the freezer box to the locations on the map you would like to have fog ( you might have to humidity control the room or add misters to parts of the map for this to have the effect you like )

Wish i had a group like yours. Im that DM who puts a ton of effort and money into making a good campaign and awesome terrain but with noone to play with who is reliable 😭

For the fog they do sell tiny ones that you could 3D print some kind of box/case for it. Just look up Ultrasonic Mist Maker on eBay. I use to work for a fountain company way back in the day and some of the fountains had them. They work well was always a neat effect.

Wood or foam boards could easily provide that vertical lift for those multi-layer areas you mentioned. Would be easily transported as well. Just trying to think "outside the box".

Wow... this is truly impressive! As a DM, so far any and all prep work has been on me. Someday I would hope that I would get a player with even half the initiative and talent as you! I just purchased my first 3D printer (going with a resin printer for minis), and was looking at this to get an idea if printing would be practical for terrain... but after seeing the scale of this... man... I guess this is why it is important to have resin and filament printers. Printing something like that in resin would cost a fortune!

Let me add a few simple suggestions to make this a *LOT* easier on you... I am going to presume you are using *some* kind of keylock system for the tiles (I hope so!) First off, put some kind of masking or duct tape across the bottom of "rooms" to keep them together as a module, a little bit of blu-tac putty here and there can help hold the sides and still be removable for reconfiguration of parts. Next is to place each module onto a piece of stiff cardboard cut to size, again using blu-tac or similar so each room can be handled easily. This also allows for vertical storage on something like a standard wire bakers rack. Next is to invest in a little bit of styrofoam... a typical 2 or 3 inch sheet costs about the same as a spool of filament and can now provide the support for making multiple layers (why bother "3D printing" empty space?) This would let you do those "Deep" areas and can even give you a small amount of "overhang" off the table for those little details that are just a bit too wide. Finally, get a bit of cheap cotton or even old bed sheets and cut out pieces that are of various size squares and triangles. Get yourself a bag of pillow fiberfill and a can of spray on glue. Lay your cut out fabric onto a large cardboard or painter's plastic backing and spray a couple light coats of glue. Next fluff out the fiberfill into a wispy cloud like consistency and place onto the glue covered cloth and let dry. As a last step you can lightly spritz spray can gray paint very lightly to give a hint of gray "fog" appearance... These can now be used to cover "Unkown" areas individually... These are things I have done with miniatures, even before 3D printing was a thing... these are rather simple tricks, but they can save hours of setup, enhance the gameplay with actual "mysterious areas", and add new surprises for the players! It also allows for easier moving around of different "room" elements and can even still be broken down to reconfigure into other "rooms" or area shapes...

I know this is two years old but I have seen some DMs take Amazon boxes, mark them with a section, and then when the players can see that they open the box that has the section of dungeon pre-assembled and adds it on. If you have a locking mechanism anyway. This is one main problem with magnetic tiles. If you are a 'off the cuff' DM and make things up as you go magnetic is fine but if you are a DM that plays by a map then locking tiles with marked Amazon boxes is the way to go.

Wow. Great dedication. That's really cool to see. I print all my sets for my campaign as well, but won't do something like this. I create the maps for melee combat only. I feel like having something like this really takes away from the immersion of the idea of table top D&D. The game happens in the theater of the mind. Combat however is difficult to do in this way, and requires the visual aid. That's a ton of work, you did a great job.

Why not put the fog unit under the table and get some 1/4" hose that you can then add into the dungeon tiles?

Well done Sir! It's clear that you are a stickler for details and like things exactly as they are designed. In this case, your design changes seem totally appropriate. Your clan is lucky to have you on their team. Dedicated teammates regardless of the endeavor, are hard to find and too few and far between. Regardless of the state of condition, your 3d print space is awesome and has given me so ideas on how to set up my own print space(I currently have 3 FDM and 2 Resin printers) especially, the use of the Ultra Sonic cleaners as a modified print wash station. Quick question about that, Are there any shortcomings to using the ultrasonic cleaners instead of a traditional wash and cure station? I'm asking because I currently have a UV cure system and was considering buying a wash station, but I already own an ultrasonic cleaner? If your setup works well, I go that route instead and save the 100+ dollars. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Again, Great job on such a massive undertaking!! Side note: Have you considered designing a custom more theme-appropriate enclosure for your fog monster? Its a shame to have such a cool piece of equipment not being able to be used.

This looks great! I always loved 3D terrain but never had the money or the skill to get it for my groups. Now that I have the money, I've moved away from D&D-style dungeon hack & slash rpgs and don't need this terrain any more... One question remains though: As a DM I've always tried to reveal the dungeon layout as the players explored it. In this case, the players can see the whole thing right from the start. Of course the players should be able to differentiate between player knowledge and character knowledge, but still this wouldn't be perfect for me. Building the dungeon as the group advances would be cumbersome as well - dang...

The rock in the water is fine. If it's been there a long time it might be eroded around the surface of the water, so it doesn't need to be flat on the bottom.

Hey there guys! This channel has received a large number of subscribers over the last few weeks. Can you share with me how you came across my video?

That is a really really impressive build and a phonomonally ambitious project. Can I ask if you print your tiles at 100% or do you scale them up?

Blender is a good free modeling program and has a CAD program built in and you can hook the fbx/obj to the 3d printer. If your not worried about modifications like can substitute this wall to make a new tunnel. Model the full map in the 3d modeling program as you are working with a module map. Seperate the map by rooms/tunnels into their own collections this way when turned on or off show them as one full scene/map or section like fog of war. Then make a plane that is the dementions of your 3d printers ideal print space remove the plane but keep edges and extrude the lines down so you get hollow cubes using an array modifier to tile it and use that as a template to cut the rooms into quadrents or chunks using a boolean modifier. As well as cut floor levels. If you start with the lowest floor of the dungeon at 0 you will be able to measure height of the floor of the model from 0 and can use foam blocks as risers/platforms based on the measurements. Most 3d software has Cm/inch for realworld measurements so cutting the foam to that height is no problem. If you want to make sure the walls "snap" you can always make rails and notches where you made your cuts so walls slide into eachother vertically. Just some ideas.

This is really cool. Awesome work all of you. I cringed with the tape holding the map on the wall. Such a nice print could of put it in a $5 frame. Just my opinion.

i along with a few friends built this in minecraft we changed some stuff like the water wheel and replaced it with a second spore/mushroom room and filled the canal with water we also changed the boss room making it a longer open grand haul with a tree at the end on an island surrounded by water

Great job, how about printing a set of minecart rails that you can just drop on the tiles for future games
