No idea what they were doing under the bridge, but once they figured out they probably shouldn't be drifting sideways under a bridge they suddenly decide to gun it, and the guy doesn't even have a lifejacket on as he walks from the bow, sometimes not even holding on, great way to fall in.

Use the throttle!

we had the spitfire 3 years ago and once the strong winds got you side on it was a hell of a job to point it in the right direction bow thruster or not.

I'd be very surprised if that particular expensive hire boat didn't have a bow thruster fitted which makes turning a boat much easier, even if the boat is stationary in the water. Maybe the driver wasn't using it, or wasn't aware of how to use it.

I think the captain doesn't know or the screw is lef or right turning. when you know it can help you with steering.

Love all the know all comments here! By the sound of the wind on the mic I would hazard a guess he was having trouble Helming /steering as the boat was fighting the wind. And did not want to over throttle which could mean he winds up striking the bridge prompting more childish remarks from you bunch of armchair commanders!

Needs to be a bit more direct with the throttle and steering in force 5 - 6 winds. Thrusters are not much use to you.

Why do people make boat handling so difficult I holiday up there once twice a year and never have any troubles use the wind and tide to your advantage with a bit of savvy

I suspect that they don`t know how to switch over from lower to upper deck control.But no excuse to pass on the wrong side of the river.Poor hire training again.

This is tippical of holiday makers and big boat owners as a rower sailer and Kayaker on the broads i would find holiday makers hilarious if some of them were not so dangerous. The odd bumps are funny but as a rower i have been squased and beached by a drunk helmswoman nearly crushed several times and once a huge boat plowed through a rowing swamped my boat knocked me into the water and when he saw me struggling to get free of the boat promptly fucked of and left me for dead, I love them really x

I was not talking about sailors.1 Im first and foremost a sailor who has done a bit of rowing so I do know the rules of the river and would always stay clear of a sailing boat when rowing.2 just because you haven't seen something happen it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.3 I have never rowed or sculled 2 a breast unless over taking with clear water ahead an certainly never rowed with a power boat behind.

What stupid comment I have never seen a rower on the wrong side of the river. If we were not looking over our shoulders how would we get round the corners. It also wouldn't happen if cruisers were on the right side of the river.
