Fun, But Also Frustrating: Abarth 595C Turismo Review
This may look a bit cute and adorable, but this is NOT a FIAT 500. What this is, is the Abarth 595 - the Abarth 595C Turismo to be exact. It features a pumped up, aggressive look, and more importantly, a turbocharged 1.4 litre engine that offers up 165hp and 230Nm of torque.
Mated to 5-speed manual with power going to the front wheels, 0-68 is dealt with in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 135mph. Not bad for a car that's small enough to put in your pocket.
It's certainly a fun car to chuck about, but it's not without its flaws...

Hello everybody, thank you so much for dropping in on my review of the Abarth 595C Turismo. I just wanted to do a bit of housekeeping here; within the video I have stated that the 595C Turismo starts from a price approaching £21,000, but in fact it's OVER £21,000 (£21,680). Apologies for this error; the spec sheet I was given for the car was out of date (the starting price was stated as £20,360, but I knew it was more than that), and at the time of editing this video I was not able to get the correct price from Abarth's website as the configurator was not working...

This car is so light and short it already handles well enough without a stiff sports suspension to have fun with it. The cornering speeds you have to reach to unsettle this car are over the speed limit for sure. So a more comfortable, nicer exterior color trimmed and interior designed 500C with a 1.4 95 hp engine and after market 17inch OZ rims with grippy (Pirelli?) tires is actually all you need for public road fun and to stand out from the million other 500's out there. The Abarth versions are all trackday toys. That is how I see it anyway. Noone wants to sit in the back of this car, it's a driver's car. The rear seat is extra luggage space 😉.

I love mine, with TTC and sport on I’ve left seat Leon FRs Behind in corners and chicanes, the ass of the car just slides round with the front with the TTC. Ride height on the seat you get used to after a few weeks

Very practical and honest review.....but one thing missing.....you say not necessarily best/best VFM in class......so what is? If I am looking for a small sporty 2nd hand car for £10-15k for my wife who is not necessarily a fan of 2 seater sports cars but would still like to the roof down, is there actually anything else out there? I am not sure there is another small 'fun' car that has, sport looks and set up, convertible, 4 seats, small but usable boot space, 50/50 rear seat split etc. If there is I'd love to know and been given a steer so I can have a look. Thanks in advance.

Hello Paul, thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting. I'd say the Fiesta ST is better value for money, but if you're looking for something in which you can put the roof down, you're a bit stuck because of course the Fiesta doesn't offer such an option. I suppose the only other option would be a Mini Cooper S Convertible but that's going to be pretty pricey as well. However, that will have a nicer cabin and I'm pretty confident it will have a better driving position as well. So, if I had to choose out of those two, I'd be going with the Mini. Personally, I think you'd be better off with something like an Mazda MX-5 because I'd argue the rear seats of the 595 - and probably the Mini for that matter - aren't that usable anyway and you'll probably use it as additional luggage storage. Plus, the MX-5 was always designed to be a convertible from the get-go, so it's not compromised whereas the 595 and Mini have been converted, so that probably won't feel as 'tight' as their hardtop counterparts. They'll be heavier, too.

@@CarObsession Bought a 64 500c TJet. with 21k on it in 8C Red (an Alfa colour that was an extra on teh Abarth so quite rare). No doubt it has it's faults (like all cars) but you only live once and cannot take your money with you.. Actually went to look at a 124 and this was sat in the garage and screamed out to the wife 'buy me'.

I think a vast majority of people will actually be interested in its MPG due to it being a 1.4. Its a good potential daily which could have been in the beginning instead of rear passenger space.. just from the name you know there won't be space in the back!

I'll be honest, I don't think I'd want to daily a 595, ride is too firm, seating position is all wrong for this sorta car, plus as like you said, it's not very practical.

Why these idiots put only 5 gears on this? It should be more sporty with 6 gears; i hate long gears, hence why we need shorter more sporty gears!

In what sense? The Swift Sport is better value, and has more kit, but it's slower and doesn't sound as good as the Abarth. Thanks for watching.

@@CarObsession i bet there are italians that did something in the older smaller 500 😇 would you recomend the car as a second car/small daily or is it just not economical enough ? (Min 40 mpg) i have a suzuki swift sport now and on lpg its quite a great daily . Youve driven more cars than me . This or a ecoboost(mk7 1.0) fiesta ?

It's not a sports car, but it is a sports hatch. To be fair, the driving set up in the Abarth feels more upright and higher than some normal hatchbacks I've driven. I'm not saying I want to be sat 2mm off the floor, but at the same time I don't want to feel like I'm driving a small SUV, especially when it's meant to be a sporty car. Thanks for watching.
