She has a Finnish accent, probably because she used to be married to Finnish movie director Renny Harlin.

"Jamen, jag kan inte. Det var så länge sen. Jag kommer inte ihåg nånting." She uses the word "jamen", which is a filler word. It's super difficult for a non-native speaker of any language to use filler words correctly and effortlessly. She knows way more than she lets on, she is very talented!

"Ja men" is technically equivalent to "yes but", although I believe that "Ja men" is used a bit more as filler words compared to in English. In this situation, it is more like "well actually".

Depends a lot on how willing you are to learn another language as well, though. A lot of people rely too much on English, and this never really leads anywhere. She probably insisted on trying to learn Swedish and stick to that language as much as possible, and probably also checked Swedish/English dictionaries a lot. You can learn a lot in just a couple weeks that way.
@zoom5024
@zoom5024 6 жыл бұрын
The fact that she only spoke Swedish for one year and still remebers after what, like 20 years of probably never saying a Swedish word is pretty impressive to say the least. I dont remember anything from my German classes and i finnished school 2 years ago.
@Peter_1986
@Peter_1986 6 жыл бұрын
+toby It largely depends on how willing you are to actually use the language yourself. One mistake that I often see foreigners make in Sweden is that they use English all the time - they know that we are really good at English in Sweden, so they kinda take advantage of that, and I consider that a big mistake. Geena Davis most likely tried her best to understand the Swedish language instead of just relying on English, and this can have amazing results and really help with long-term memory as well. You can learn a foreign language very quickly if you always try using it while you live in the country where it's spoken. Geena Davis was also married to a Finnish guy (and that's probably why she speaks Swedish with a Finnish accent in this video), and Finnish people tend to know at least a little Swedish since they learn it in school, and some parts of Finland even have Swedish as their official language.

well nobody really speaks any language properly beqause it takes too much effort i mean whats properly..there are different dialects aswell then we must only have one way to pronounce things, its a very human thing to not pronounce everything. - could you with all the kindness of your`re heart pass me the salt over their to your right my dearest human fellow man friend...thank you i am forever in debt and will try my best to repay you as soon as possible - pass me da sawt...fank you mai. The shorter and easier to pronounce the better, that literally goes for all languages, In russian o’s turns to a’s alot of the time cuz most of the time ist faster and easier, winteeerrr vs winta... so much easier, Är vs E/Ä, va är problemet instead? of vad är problemet? if we dont do these kind of things we are not being efficient, and we would be very slow when communicating, but slang though... if its only slang then it kind of becomes a whole other language, but britain is no stranger to that with the cockney rhyming slang, there was actually a thyming slang culture in Stockholm waaay back where they had a similar thing where they could talk with only slang (Söderslang) and that was in the 1940s but sure i can agree on when theres too much slang it doesnt sound good but as i said spoken language is more effecient when leaving stuff out and choosing easier and faster pronounciation, speaking like a book is not how most people speak and for a reason. If this was a reality then it would be one dialect per language and that would be boring for alot of people which i dare to think is a majority, but then there are preferneces ofcourse and i cant argue against what you think beqause its what you like, i myself like Skånska, Cockney for example, actually if you want to learn a language where there isnt much variation where the dialects arent that shockingly different from each other than russian is a good pick but still, the spoken language still simplify spoken speach and shorten words to make it more effecient like any other language, alot of european languages actually are more consistant from how their sounds matches their writing, so english is actually really confusing beqause of this.

If I am not totally misinformed she spent her time in Sweden in my home town "Sandviken", about 190km North of Stockholm. I wish I had more info to give about that but it was before my School days. Sandviken has had Jimi Hendrix playing in "Högbo" just as his career was taking off. More recent years DJ Tiësto and Scorpions paid visits and also a certain Pamela with a common Swedish last name. Apart from that Sandviken is not known to many abroad except maybe for their steelworks "Sandvik" which is a global company with around 30.000 employees worldwide.

A couple of lines is enough for her to be able to "speak Swedish"? If a person with a language I don't know speaks a couple of phrases I guarantee I can imitate them almost perfectly. That doesn't mean I can speak the frigging language. So stop fawining over movie stars or celebs doing that. It is part of their job, anyway. So no cookie there. Many of them come from different backgrounds, two language households, live or travel in/to foreign countries all the time etc. And, no, Sandra Bullock speaking German is NOT special as she spent the first 12 years of her life and still goes back to see the folks. And finally, as a German I find it offensive using actors playing roles of Germans who speak the language, but only with a horrible English accent.
