"Fun House" with Eric Hays, Carrie Holmerud, J.D. Roth, Bernard, Leticia

This is an episode of a children's game show called "Fun House." It ran for a few years in the late 80's, piggybacking off the success of Nickelodeon shows such as Double Dare. The host, J.D. Roth, was an unknown at the time, but has since gone on to write books and host other game shows and talk shows. The show featured twin sisters dressed as cheerleaders, and each sister was assigned to one of the pairs of contestants. The announcer/comic relief was named Tiny, and he was always doing stupid shit. The reason I can discuss this 80's relic with such authority is because I was a contestant on the show. This very episode. Witness the thrill of victory and the agony of Hawaii. Ten Pins!!!!!

The world feels worse in so many ways today than it did in the 1980s... and yet when I think to myself, "I wonder if J.D. Roth's Fun House still exists somewhere," I turn on the internet and here it is! I'm so grateful for this walk down memory lane. We live in a truly great age to be nostalgic for our childhoods. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!

I used to love to watch this show all the time and I never forgot meeting JD Roth! He was the 1st "celebrity from T.V." I ever met!😊 He was a guest host at our Annual Thanksgiving day parade in Chicago and I was able to go up to him after the Parade and got up the nerve to ask him for an autograph he was really nice! #80sbabiesRule

I believe JD also did "Game Pro" video game magazine show in which he would unveiled the latest secret codes and latest games of that time. I remember waking my kid ass early at 7am on Saturday just to watch Game Pro! Amazing times to be a kid!

I watched Fun House on WDCA in D.C. when it was syndicated from 1988 until 1990, when it moved to Fox, picking up and renaming it Fox's Fun House for the 3rd season and became a weekly Saturday morning offering, airing on Saturday Mornings as part of FOX KIDS on Fox affiliate WTTG/5 beginning on September 8, 1990 until April 13, 1991, when it was replaced by Swamp Thing.

I can remember watching this specific episode when it was on tv, only because i was freaking out at how slow the kids were moving. I know the uploader is one of the contestants, so I mean no disrespect, but I've remembered you for thirty years now, lol. Oh damn does this sure being back many great memories! This was when my life was at it's peak, and used to watch the hell out of this great show back in the day too! It's hard to believe that J.D. Roth was only in his late teens/early twenties when he hosted Fun House though!

Eric this is a really good quality tape of the episode. Did Fun House actually provide you with their own official tape of the show for being a contestant or did you just timer record it on the highest setting from home? Also, tell us about your experience. I loved watching this show as a kid and dreamed of being a contestant. Was it as enjoyable an experience to be on as it was to watch? Or were there all kinds of hidden inconveniences off camera? Did you like working with J.D. and Tiny or no?

They should air this version in the UK and the UK version should air in the USA. Just to show the difference the shows had

There's an aboslute huge difference in the US/UK versions of the show. Mainly that it's illegal to give kids cash on game shows, and also (then) prizes like the power prize had to be won by skill based means, instead of luck based means.
