Did you know that its better to separate your caps from your bottles when you recycle them? Very few people actually recycle their bottles, let alone with the lid separated. We set out to find out whether we can change people's behaviour by using the power of fun.

Did you know that its better to explain why an action is needed ie separate caps from bottles, then people will have more incentive to participate.

Many people choose to remain indifferent regardless of explanations. Such incentives at least set positive initial habits. Hence, "incentives".

This isn't exactly separating them this is just taking the cap off before putting it in the bag. All it does it stop the people at the processing plants from having to take off the bottle cap. Once there's lots of bottles in there, the caps will be sitting on top of bottles not simply floating to the bottom. If it separated them into a smaller bag that was attached to the plinko machine's opening that would be separating them properly.

I can't help but wonder if this is all staged. At 6'3" I would not see the poster well below my thigh level. I would see the hole for the bottle, but in the absence of any signage near it, I would probably still drop my whole bottle in the hole, especially if I did not have an opportunity to rinse the bottle clean, something we were told to do back in the early days of recycling. I don't see any of the bottle cap depositors stop to read or having that learning moment. These seem to be all filmings of people who already knew about the system.

It definitely feels like its staged, especially with the fact that its hand recorded (seen from the camera shake) so it feels like the situations for the videos would either be as follows: 1. The person about to do the action walks in without a clue. They see a man staring a camera straight at a garbage can, not moving. They wonder whats going on, so they read the thing and go, "Well, I guess I may be able to do the thing. Maybe their waiting for someone to do it." so they walk over, ask what they are doing and see that they are testing out a new bin and are looking for footage of people using it. They volunteer and get recorded, then walk away feeling satisfied they helped someone. 2. They are literally just paid actors or a part of the channel doing it to help out/make money.
