Just found this one Alex, 10 months out but was looking for something for Christmas that was different. Great ideal, I’m going to try another character from the movie too. I appreciate any teaching you can give. Obviously you are a talented artist and are volunteering your precious time. Loved this one, thank you

Alec you are not only a Top Notch Carver but a Top Notch Person as well, seems a few folks have chips on their shoulders and you handle them nicely.....Very cute Lil reindeer, I am a new carver of about a month now and I could certainly do this with more time spent.....Just take it slow and it will all come together for me in the end.....Thank you kindly for your time given on behalf of us to learn from, newbies need folks like you to post videos as it is soooo much easier to watch and learn, thank you again from a 65 year old female ADHD newbie, if I can do it anyone can lol

Really enjoying your videos Alec. You mentioned the mitreapel on another video too, and said you’re unsure of the pronunciation. I’m from Scotland, so it may be different where you are but we say it like “might-er”. A mitre is a woodworking joint like you find on picture frames. Hope this helps. 👍🏻👍🏻

If you print with a toner printer (or a copier) you can transfer it onto the wood with an iron The sharpeners are $200 now, btw.

Those knives are hard or simply not available to beginners. C'mon Alec, watch the Coffee and carving show and you would know that! Wooow now your using a band saw? That is also something of an expense.... and not to mention the safety issues that you are clearly able to avoid as an expert (even thought the blade jams so many times) DOUG!!!!! Love your work Alec , I really do, but come back a few steps please and we will all be able to learn as beginners
@AlecLaCasseArt
@AlecLaCasseArt Жыл бұрын
Thanks for you comment Richard! I have a few thoughts that may help you out! 1) Use whatever knife within the 1"-2" size range as long as it’s sharp and holds an edge! 2) I provided some other options with regard to the "cut out" in the video! Try to get your hands on a Jorgensen coping saw, only $15 ! 3)The bandsaw was slowing down because I have too wide of a blade and I was too lazy to exchange it out for a 1/4 blade, thankfully it’s not a safety issue. 4) I mentioned at the beginning of this video that this project is for the advanced side of the beginners category, it's for folks who have a few projects under their belts! If you are looking for a “first time” type beginner project Doug Linker has a lot of great projects in that category! I suggest you go to his channel now! Thanks for your time and I hope this helps!

@@AlecLaCasseArt I truly love you work and all what you are giving to the community. Your response is also admirable :) What size blade would you have used if you had changed it? I am in the UK (WALES not ENGLAND, LOL) so doubt the Orgensen coping saw is an option sadly. But I do have a Bandsaw :) Just prefer to keep things 'knife only/whittling' :) Love watching you both on the Coffee and carving show every Friday. I have watched every episode every day they were released.

@@riccojames1 I would probably using something a tiny bit smaller maybe 1 1/4"! I understand that, I don't like firing up the bandsaw either! Glad you enjoy it! Thanks!

Whelp, that's it for me. I'm out. Alec either doesn't read the comments or he doesn't care. I commented on his last vid to please turn off the auto focus on his camera because it keeps going out. I have vision issues as it is so when the vid is out of focus I cant make out what is happening. Kind of difficult for us to learn if we cant clearly see what he is doing. Someone be a sport and come back here and let me know if he figures out how to keep his videos in focus. Thanks and happy holidays

@AlecLaCasseArt Жыл бұрын
Hey J, Thanks for the feedback! I am trying to resolve the focusing issues! Sorry my videos are bothering your vision, I too have vision issues so I understand your concern! My auto focus is typically turned off but I lose the carvings' proper depth and I am trying to get better at consistency! I usually use manual focus on a stationary wood block and these whittle videos (where the depth of field changes) are new to me! Thanks for your patience and sorry I didn't respond to your last comment!

Try sitting at a table where are stable and hands won’t be flailing. Every other KZfaq carver is sitting and carving in a stationary position even if they are carving on their lap. Just my two cents. You are an amazing artist and I really appreciate your videos. Except the focus😂

@@AlecLaCasseArt Hey Alec, first off reading my comment now it seems a little d*ckish so thanks for not telling me to eff off. I think what Brian replied might help as your wood block carvings are fine. I won't stop watching I enjoy your videos and your weird sense of humor matches mine.

The great things you do, a little out of focus once in awhile is nothing. I know it's only for a moment. If I was paying big bucks for this then maybe I'd have a reason to complain but with the service you are giving freely, I will never complain. You are amazing with the knife! Your painting talents are also great, I learned a lot on just this video alone. Thank you for sharing your skills.
