Small tip: the word Funchal means fennel, because the wonderful smell of the island. I was there 40 years ago. So beautiful!

A few years ago I was a steward at Tap Portugal and I regularly flew to Madeira, an authentic pearl in the middle of the Atlantic. The only setback was the runway in Funchal, which at the time was only 1800 meters. The stays at Madeira Palácio and Madeira Regency Club were well worth the wear and tear of the landings. The climate, the beauty of the contrasts and the simplicity of the Madeiran people have always captivated me and I am happy that you have become true ambassadors for this unique and amazingly beautiful island.

To be honest Madeira people where in Hawaii long time a go around the 1911 to work in the sugar can plantations, and left some influence there like the ukulele that is based in traiditional Madeira guitar called braguinha, and even some food like the Malassdas.

Let’s keep it that way por favor!! I want all cities and townships in Portugal and Madeira to remain quiet and unpopular. So please stop bragging about about how wonderful and affordable places are because this will force a change and destroy the very things that you fell in love with in the first place. My philosophy for intrepid travellers- enjoy what you see and experience, then move on and leave it the way you found it.

@@lisaandrews1430 Interesting how perception works. Ten years ago I was on Madeira and I stayed in Funchal. I thought it was terribly touristy. Didn't like it at al... Funchal I mean. Far too British, far too unauthentic. It was difficult to find a good simple restaurant in the city centre.

Just wanted to share my appreciation for all the love you have shown in your channel for Madeira. It is indeed a PARADISE. For many many reasons, some of them you have been kind enough to show. Thank you. Again thank you. As a "imigrante" in another country as you are in mind, I know It can be difficult to get use to a different countries culture. @@GMOriginal3 Fish is all about being the center of the dish, especially with such a delicate fish. Banana overpowers it as well when you fried it with egg or/and flour. Some people may enjoy it but you will have butcher the fish taste and nothing will beat fresh espada. Espada with Banana is more a representation of the island from "fine cousine" is not a typical dish from the population, I know of no one that cooks it that way besides some restaurants. Further more to actual execute a good espada with banana is very hard, as it needs to well balanced here 90% of restaurants fail to actual execute it and even in the best case scenario it will never beat the flavour of the simpler dish in my opinion. For me I think the gaiado seco dish represents more of the madeira uniqueness food culture than espada.

Madeira reminds me a lot of Hawaii. I can see it's cooler there in a winter, but the architecture is much more charming than we have here on the islands (Waikiki with a few exceptions is just a big concrete jungle). Hopefully will be visiting Madeira this year in a fall, maybe we will see you guys around! Aloha!

Thank you for your very interesting videos, I glade to hear that you are choosing Madeira as your home. I started going to Madeira in 2008 with my parents for 6 weeks. We would go every year the end of May for 6 weeks for vacation.We have timeshare in The Residence which is the Porto Bay group. We would travel from New York to Madeira for 6 weeks. The food is incredible and the people are so friendly. My last time to Madeira was in 2019. We had to stop gong since We moved to Florida. We look forward to seeing more of your videos as you explore the island. You should go to Les Suites in Madeira, a small 5 star hotel. Your new friend. Many great places to see

Madeira was from England for 7 years, during Napoleonic war, like porto wine, many producers are from England, we have many English influences/references in our 600 years history

@Prince London Madeira is Portuguese with influence from all over. Many emigrated to English-speaking countries and the next generations are fluent in English. @Prince London It is made with lemon juice, Madeiran rum which is obtained from sugar cane and honey. Sometimes you will add orange juice. And of course, some sugar. It is quite good, either on winter or summer.

Really? Madeira is very beautiful, but it's an island and small, in a few months you will be bored, and also without a subject! What are you going to do then? Vlogs about your daily routine? Repeat yourself? Show your sponsoring hotels? I see no interest in any of the options... Good luck.
