Enjoyed your video on Funchal with the real sights and sounds. Have visited Portugal 3 times but not Madeira because of the distance from main land Portugal. Thanks so much for showing us all this beautiful island.

My great grandparents moved from Madeira to Hawaii to work in the plantations. The thinking was that they wanted people that lived in similar circumstances to come to Maui. Same climate and an island. Really no adjusting needed. Many moved to Hawaii. I live in Arizona now, but have many cousins in Hawaii. I visit there frequently. I probably have a lot of distant cousins on Madeira, all long and forgotten. Still I feel like visiting there sometime soon. The flora looks the same. Very beautiful from your video. Thanks for sharing.

Madeira has grown substantially with the benefit of EU loans particularly outside of Funchal. We went back for a visit a few years ago and really enjoyed our visit. In late '21 and '22 Azores Airlines started December and April once weekly service from New York JFK. It can also be reached from Boston several times a week with an Azores connection. It is a much milder climate than the Caribbean or other places where temperatures and humidity are very high.

Have you caught your attention? An island with a very old population. There is little or no agricultural production. So everything is so expensive. People are unhappy. Even the waiters in the restaurant are 50 or older. It is not beatiful a place to live.
