Awesome most educational video I have seen so far , especially in the category of my search foran answer to my quest which is to increase the pressure in the rear shocks for towing a heavy loaded down travel trailer. The towing capacity maxim isn't exceeded, however is almost matched. The rear of the escalade drops considerably leaving the toung of the trailer lower than should be causing it to be in danger of scraping the road at dips or bottoming out and catching the jack foot . Is there away to increase the overall pressure in the system so as to adjust for the extra weight of the trailer or is there another problem in the system causing it not to recognize the trailer therefore not adjusting for the tow.
@DrivingIntelligence
@DrivingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
thanks for your comment and reaching out. I'm not aware of a method to safely increase pressure in the system. You could exceed the capacity of the ELC System. Couple of questions, Does the ELC System work normally without the extra weight? If so, do you have most of your load at the front of the trailer? You of course want to maintain most of the load at the front of the trailer forward of the axles for stability, but possibly redistribute the load? I'm not completely familiar with the Escalade. I'm assuming it has the articulating arm sensor on the suspension that lets the computer know to activate the compressor similar to that shown in my video. I noticed that the sensor has minor adjustment to get more ride height. Without a detailed knowledge of your ELC system, not sure what steps to take here. The other options are either a load leveling hitch or helper springs in the back. Let me know what you think.

@@DrivingIntelligence I was surprised it had the circuit board in it. I kind of expected a simple reostat with possibly a pressure limit switch there or at the shocks. Did you ever get the inoperable one to function? I just crawled out from under a 2005. It is squeaking and creaking and my friend thinks it's going to break in half. I pbd ever bushing I could find in the suspension. The rear center motor mount is cracked all the way around. I'm hoping it's not a nightmare to r,&r. And the A am bushings in the rear look rough. I'm not looking forward to that. It looks like it will require 4wheel alignment if I tear all of that out.

@DrivingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for your question. Just thinking through your problem, either you have a leak or you have intermittent operation of the air compressor. Very hard for me to assist with limited information, but you could try the following, safely put the back of the vehicle on ramps and with a spray bottle filled with soapy water, spray the soapy water on the hoses of the air compressor, especially where they attach to the shocks and air compressor. This will identify leaks, but the compressor will need to be operating for this to work. Hopefully you have a few friends, family that can sit in the car to load the vehicle while on the ramps to activate the compressor. If this does not work, a more thorough examination will be required.

I'm sure this is possible, but depending on your problem, you might be able to wire in a switch that will control the compressor manually when you need to raise or lower the rear of the vehicle. I have a 2001 eldorado with a road levelin system. I'm going to put in conventional shocks how do I bypass the road leveling system. Is there a plug-and-play or can I permanently put the linkage in one position. ?
@DrivingIntelligence
@DrivingIntelligence 11 ай бұрын
I'm not familiar with a plug and play, but you can go several routes. You can set the sensor to neutral to prevent the system from activating, or you can pull the fuse for the system. Pulling the fuse my affect other elements of your Eldorado and could cause a code. I'm not sure. So easiest route is adjusting the sensor to a neutral position.

I have a 90 bonneville SSE 41k miles with this same setup. The electronic module looks the same but its on the passenger side. The air pump is in the engine bay. Pontiac has a tire inflator in the trunk. I tried to use it on a bike tire and it didnt create no more than 15psi. I dont hear air leaking anywhere when the pump runs, If I put my finger on the pump outlet it builds pressure on my finger. I guess its leaking out of the rear shocks?
@DrivingIntelligence

Thanks for reaching out. Very sorry, I can't diagnose the problem at this point. Could be many issues. Good thing, you are getting activation of the pump. Is your self leveling system not maintaining rear vehicle height? What other issues are going on with the system?

So while driving down the road, the wheels suspension is constantly moving up n down fairly fast. So as the suspension arm is raising and lowering soo fast, it the compressor turning on n off just as fast as the suspension arm is moving up n down?
@DrivingIntelligence
@DrivingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out. I'm not sure how fast you are referring to, but the air pump does not have enough capacity to move the suspension very fast. It is a slow process when ride height is adjusted. Perhaps your rear air shocks are worn out.
@johnperez93640
@johnperez93640 Жыл бұрын
@@DrivingIntelligence for example: lets say going over a couple sets of train tracks, the suspension would travel up and down lets say 8 times. That means the shock would be in the compressed state 4 times and in the extended state 4 times. Would that make the compressor turn on and off 4 times within that 1.5 seconds going over the train tracks?
@DrivingIntelligence
@DrivingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
@@johnperez93640 let me make sure I understand. In 1.5 seconds the transmission makes 4 complete up and down cycles? If so, I doubt that is the self leveling system. The compressor on the car in the video takes an incredible amount of time to adjust ride height.

Awesome video! Very clear! A couple of questions: I picked up a 2007 Cadillac DTS last weekend, in decent shape, I was trying to determine if mine had this leveling system. Does the leveling system only affecting the rear of the vehicle? Also, the front passenger side brakes were making a grinding sound, one of the pads was worn down to the metal. I replaced the rotors and pads in the front, both sides, and put two new tires on as well, because the left passenger tire was wearing on the edge as if the alignment was out. When I drive it now, immediately after the front wheels were removed and replaced, the vehicle bounces and bobs up and down like a bouncy castle! It did not do this before and was a very smooth ride. At first I thought it was a very rough road and the car was getting its bearings, so to speak, but it bounces on smooth roads and at slow and fast speeds. Any idea what might have caused this? Thank you and keep up the good work!
@DrivingIntelligence
@DrivingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for the comment. Is the issue with your tire a bounce or a vibration? What comes to mind is the following: Improperly filled tires (wrong pressure), tires with a broken inner belt, tire & wheel out of balance, damaged or suddenly failed strut / shock. Go back to the tire place and ask them to check balance and tire condition, also, put the car on ramps and see if any of your shocks / struts are leaking. If they are, you'll see oil streaming down the side of the absorber. I checked and your car has the Magnetic Ride Control System and this appears to control the valving of all shocks / struts. You could have a failure in the system... do you have a check engine light? This article might be useful: vigorairride.com/blogs/news/whats-the-2007-cadillac-dts-air-suspension-switch-location

I own a 2000 DTS since 2003. I will say that this car has definitely kept me busy. You name it, I've had to fix it. One of my repairs was the suspension. The DTS does have the leveling sensor as you mention. The ride height is adjusted as you see, Basically it has air shocks in the rear. The front struts are also controlled electronically. The hydraulic fluid in the front struts are electronically controlled (isn't that special). This controls the stiffness of the ride. The bouncing sounds like something has been disconnected or broken. A quick check, stand next to the car, push up and down, if the car bounces more that 2 X. It's likely a bad shock/ strut. A good visual inspection including the tires is in order. I also wanted to mention, I replaced the OE shocks and struts with an aftermarket system from Suncore industries several years ago that works real well.

Hey there. I have a Oldsmobile car. 2002. I'm looking for the air compressor fuse and I'm looking to pull it. The shop changed out my rear suspension with cheaper (no air susp)... so literally everytime I start the car, a loud air compressor sound quickly sounds off and on for 10 secs. Is that fuse known as the electronic level controller fuse? It seems to be the only thing that makes sense. Is it safe to pull the fuse and never worry about this again??
@DrivingIntelligence
@DrivingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
Good morning. Do you have the owner’s manual? If so, check the fuse information to make sure that circuit doesn’t control anything else. It is the electronic level control. If only the ELC is on that circuit, no problem pulling fuse. Alternative is to disconnect the connector at the compressor.
