REALLY well done! You explained things very clearly. May I add one small detail? I've done thousands of removals over the years and one tip is to make sure the head end of the deceased never goes lower than the foot end. Otherwise, the decedent could purge. (Ask me how I know this.) Once again, great job.

I could of used this about a year and a half ago! I almost dumped someone while I was wheeling them out to the hearse. It was terrifying!

Well I'm not in the business, and plse forgive me, I don't want to be; but my mother died at home. I saw the funeral workers collect her, from our apt. This was an interesting topic. And just bc I won't do this job, someone has to. Thank u. Happy holidays🕊🎄

It takes only ONCE to not listen for the click while on a removal to wake you up.

How can one person load a person who is 300 lbs onto the cot..? Dead weight is heavy.. I can see two people doing this…. But, one person..? Not really..
@Sogonrei Жыл бұрын
Yes one person. I did it often, they send one Funeral Director for a hospital removal, Nursing homes, Coroner's office. It really hurt my back. I am no longer a Funeral Director/Embalmer. I loved the job very much and helping people, but had gotten in a car accident on the way to work not at fault and got hiernated discs in my back and neck. Then lifting on the job 300+ many times made it worse.

At hospitals and nursing homes, the security guards or nurses will help load the person. Once centered and secured to the cot, one person can roll out and load.

@@Sogonreidid you get help getting 300 lbs person onto the cot? How did you handle house calls? Did you got alone on house calls?
@Laurennn2 ай бұрын
@@patriciahill4619there should always be help, weather it’s emergency service personnel, police, family of the decedent, or other funeral home staff (if none of the above is available for assistance). We go to house removals alone all the time, there’s always help.

Have you ever had to use the blue one for someone upto 1000lbs? What's the highest weight or height of a deceased person you've picked up? I'm a RN, but have always been interested in mortuary work. I just don't have a school around my state area for education...unfortunately. Thank you.

Mid-America College of Funeral Service!! I am about to graduate, and ALL of my courses were online. I did my clinicals with a local funeral home! I have been a dental hygienist for over 30 years, but this was always a dream of mine!

Aren't these just gurneys? I get the ones at the hospitals, those are beds...with the side rails, these just look like gurneys.

What end does the head go?
@Sogonrei Жыл бұрын
The bar you see at the bottom of the cot is where the feet are, so the head is the other end.
@davidp8915 Жыл бұрын
The feet go on the end with the bar only if you have to stand the cot up to roll around tight corners. Otherwise, the head goes closer to the bar so that the majority of the deceased's weight goes into the vehicle and is supported by the front wheels before you have to support the other end while the wheels are folding.

Someone has to help the deceased when they die. It takes a special person to do this kind of work. Someone who cares for grieving people and wants to make sure the deceased are treated with the same dignity you would give a loved one like a family member, I have lost many loved ones.

Look, I understand that the people are dead and they don't know the difference, but my heavens! The "mattresses" on those things(not to mention the ones in the caskets) are so thin and uncomfortable looking.
