Sieht witzig aus, aber immer noch besser, als zu laufen . . . !!! :-)) LG Konrad.

I suppose its technically a funicular (cable towed railway) But not having two carriages that pass for counter weighting is stretching the definition a bit. Its more a inclined elevator since it has a dead weight for each of the 4 lines.

You need to take a look at the new Stoos-funicular here in Switzerland, opened 2017, currently world's steepest. It also has round cabins, but they rotate during travel to counter out the different grades of steepnes (variing between 0% and 110%) along the route, so the cabinfloor is always level. There's no counterweight, as it is a traditonal 2 carriage system, with traditional swiss carriages having 4 cabins and 1 cargodeck. Until it's opening in 2017, the Gelmerbahn (also here in Switzerland) was worlds steepest funicular at 106%

Check the video at 6:10 , you can see the counter weight on the far right hand track moving up.

the thing i dont understand about these places is, why not drill a vertical shaft and just run a paired elevator. So much simpler and more efficient.

It is no more or less efficient the counterweight does exactly the same job as in a vertical lift. Why would you drill down through solid rock when you can just use (mostly) the natural slope (excepting the tunneling in this case).

@@thedave7760 Just build the tower with elevator/lift inside and the bridge from top of the tower to the top of the mountain ;)

Because no one’s gonna pay to ride in an elevator. It’s about the experience.
