@@JJJJJVVVVVLLLLL The guitar work is by the late great Eddie Hazel which he is also listed as a songwriter of the song under his mother’s name Grace Cook which he also used her name in place of his name for a number of Funkadelic songs that he either wrote or helped write and played on on a number of Funkadelic songs which he also played this song’s exact riffs under a different title as a instrumental on the Rest In P compilation that was put out of him playing either studio outtakes and in home jams.

One of the best concerts I ever saw!!! Their records are funky as can be but there was this POWER that only comes across live, I guess. It was on a whole other level. Just incredible. Sly Stone was onstage with them, just playing rhythm guitar like a sideman. Funny story: they were late as hell starting the show and finally the crowd started chanting “If you ain’t gonna give it up, take yo’ dead ass home!” It worked lol.

Great honest reaction to this track gentlemen! There’s a definite difference in the message, funkadelic was a band combining rock and funk; it allowed the band members to who were also Parliament to cut up and get loose. Some of the greatest unsung guitarists and musicians to “come around the mountain” during the “Landing of the Mothership” tour Bootsy would open, Funkadelic would be next and George would join them and they would all become Parliament Funkadelic. It was a family thing at the time and there was a female group “Parlette” who were the background singers. Someone mentioned the song “Maggot Brain” a guitar virtuoso performance on vinyl by the legend Eddie Hazel that would rival any! Appreciate you guys and sorry for the lengthy piece I got a little carried away ✌️😊🙏

George Clinton himself said that Funkadelic was more emotional, experimental, and rock oriented, but Parliament was Funk, as well as R & B. They were doing acid before, and during recording sessions, and the guitarist on this song was the late Eddie Hazel, and the drummer was Buddy Miles.

Parliament is radio/house party music. Funkadelic is more hardcore Psychadelic Rock. The very same musicians in each band showing their versatility. These talented men and women recorded under the names of. Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsy's Rubberband, Parlet, Quasar, The Brides of Funkenstein, Eddie Hazel and Kingdom Come, Fred Wesley and the Horney Horns, Mutiny, Bernie Worrell, Junie Morrison, Jimmi G. and The Tackheads. George would have 5 headline bands on the marquee get a check for each Headliner and the same musicians never left the stage other than to change clothes.

Funkadelic leaned more towards the rock end of the spectrum as opposed to the more R&B oriented direction of Parliament. But they had all the same musicians so it's not surprising there's a bit of crossover in the sounds. Eddie Hazel was a monster guitarist and you guys should check out his album Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs. Can't forget Bernie Worrell on keyboards who probably had the most influence after George Clinton in defining the sound of both bands (he ended up recording and touring with the Talking Heads). So many good songs in their catalogue: I'll Bet You, I Wanna Know If It's Good to You?, Free Your Mind and Your A** Will Follow, Cosmic Slop, Red Hot Mama, I’ll Stay, Sexy Ways, Good to Your Earhole, Be My Beach and Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!

Hey fellas, Ned from Spain here. Thank you for all your killin reaction videos, especially when you dive into one my go to bands like Zep, Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Steely Dan...but when you react to any of the P-Funk Mob, I am a happy man. Eddie Hazel is the tsunami of sound on this multi colored beast. Like Hendrix you can literally see colors when he plays. Later on Mike "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton joined, was also way up there but Hazels playing is so loose and free it's incredible. Riff B is twisted too. By the way George Clinton wrote, sang and ran the "Mob" didn't play guitar but knew how to find great players. Parliament and Funkadelic had to be separate because of contractual conflicts. Sadly Hazel had all kinds of drug problems which not only ruined his abilities but took him away too soon.

Parliament started out as a singing group and hired a backing band, which came to be known as funkadelic. Then when they started making records to focus on the band it was funkadelic. A few years later they started making Parliament records when they could use the name and it was more dance stuff with horns and keys. Funkadelic still stayed more funk rock. Towards the late 70s they kinda sounded the same. Same players though all of it with some coming in and out. The main players were Eddie Hazel, Billy Nelson, Tiki Fulwood, Tyrone Lampkin, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy, Rodney Curtis, Jerome Brailey, Gary Schider, Michael Hampton, Glen Goins etc.

Not directly related to Funkadelic or Parliament -- but I was reminded today of a song called Dazz, by a band called Brick. It's a terrific jam blending funk, jazz and disco. "Dazz" is actually short for Disco Jazz. It's worth your valuable time to check it out and react to it, if you don't know it already! I love this track, too -- and I hadn't heard it before. It just proves that ALL SONGS ARE FUNK 😉 Great stuff, thanks again for all you do.

Thats either Michael Hampton (Kidd Funkadelic) or Eddie Hazel on lead guitar. Both were amazing! Funkadelic was more of a rock/funk band while Parliament focused on singing in harmony and bass driven grooves. If you recall, George Clinton initially created the Parliaments (as they were called in the late 50’s through the 60’s) as a doo wop group who sang in street corner harmony style.

P-Funk is technically two different bands started by George Clinton in the 1950s and 60s. The Parliaments were named after a pack of cigarettes. it had to be changed because of some sort of contract dispute. the name bounced around until Clinton got the rights to use The Parliaments, so the names went from, The Parliaments, Funkadelic, and then to Parliament Funkadelic. P-Funk has had more musicians up in it than a back stage rock-n-roll groupie chick.

Originally Funkadelic was the name of the band and Parliament was the vocals. I believe that in the beginning they were recording as one under the Parliament name, but later the same members recorded under the two different names, with different styles for each name. In my opinion Funkadelic was more rock, Parliament was less so. Many of the members (if not all - I can’t remember) also recorded with the Parlets - the female spin-off. I think my recollection is generally accurate. However, likely someone will correct any mistakes I’ve made. I’ve been a Funkateer since my early teens in the early 70’s. 🤟🏽 Eddie Hazel was the lead guitarist on this song. Peace

As one gets older, one tends to become much milder. I've noticed that I've become more rabiate when it comes to injustice and intolerance. I'm intolerant to intolerance and am fanatically against fanatism, go figure. But on the other hand, having musically grown-up with Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as sound back-drop, everything or anything that fell outside the self-imposed norm was looked-down upon. Wasn't worth my time. Anything that wasn't heavy rock was to be disregarded. So it was written, so it was done. Nowadays, however, despite me still being an angry young man in an older body, I have to say I can now appreciate music I used to either disregard or even despise. Today (27th of May 2023) I must admit there's stuff I can appreciate in the music I refused to listen to back in the day. The musicianship is obvious. The talent is there. The production is above par, the bootie tends to shake and everything is played with a virtuose tightness that marvels the ear. I apologise for all of the years I denied these musicians, and I salute you guys for teaching me a lesson in humbleness and acceptance of the fact I'm not always right. Which is a rare occurence, I swear. Cheers lads. Warm greetings from Belgium.

Eddie Hazel was the most underrated guitar player ever (I wonder why) and this is an album you should do a deep dive on. They had Bootsy, Minnie, and the whole gang. A lot of these people went back and forth between Parliament/Funkadelic and JB. JB fired Bootsy because he was too good and was taking away from his stage presence. The band members are "rotating" and started out as "different," but cross-pollinated, over the years. Most of the different band-members have contributed to both outfits, over their existence, by now. George Clinton does not play guitar, himself. He, always, had "a stable" of insanely-great players at his disposal. The primary one was: Eddie Hazel, of Funkadelic. (But, sadly, horribly: Mr. Hazel was overtaken by drug addictions and was jailed for various periods, as well🙄🤦🤦). Hazel [pronounced: "Hay-zell" just f.y.o.] had, effectively, left/been forced-out, by 1974. He DID return on the prior album, I believe, and contributes, a little, to this album (although, he is uncredited (originally, at least)-). Both Eddie Hazel and his "replacement" -the SUPERB Mike Hampton!- (who, still, plays with the bands, to this day [as far as I know!]!!) contribute lead guitar on this album. Eddie Hazel goes uncredited, -as previously mentioned- but: I believe that he is on THIS cut! (and a few others on Hardcore Jollies). Rhythm players: Glen Goins, Garry Shider and Eddie Hazel, himself, also contribute to this album and this song. This is, also, one album (and, only MONTHS!) before Jerome "Bigfoot" Brailey would depart the drum chair. Bigfoot is, likely, my fav. P-Funk drummer of all time (and, almost certainly, THE finest to, ever, sit in Funkadelic's drum seat!). Bigfoot Brailey would join-up, after both departed Clinton's band/outfits, with: Glen Goins (who also left, slightly earlier than Brailey did) and do an excellent project, called: Quazar [which featured Goins' brother on vocals]. Brailey and Goins were working on a band called: MUTINY, when Goins passed-away, sadly, in 1978 [Hodgkin's Lymphoma.😭😭]. Bigfoot Brailey established that band and recorded 3 albums AFTER Goins', terribly sad, and unexpected, demise. ...but Goins never got to play in it.😭 (Goins died during the sessions for the Quazar album.😭😭😭 ...I think everything had been cut, but: mixdown was yet to happen, and-so-forth. That album was released posthumously, for Goins -and is an excellent piece of work.)
