It's a real shame when regiments with long and proud histories amalgamate. And then there is the thorny issue of agreeing a name. I like the solution two venerable Northern Irish Regiments found where they just double-barrelled it, so to speak. The Royal Irish Patrick Fitzgeralds and the Royal Irish Gerald Fitzpatrick's, depending on who has won the annual pillow biting contest.

British Army Regiments are one thing, but inter unit rivalry also produces some horrendous nicknames too. I wonder if I can get away with referencing them here. Such as Sheep sh*gg**s, Leather necks (quite obvious who they may be), donkey wallopers, The Gay Gordons, which is actually a famous Scottish Country dance, as well as a now defunct regiment. The angle irons. Any and all old comrades who want to add to this list, please feel free. I served. When they were needing us not just feeding us.... old joke. God bless those serving now.
