It conquered the world was one of Frank Zappa's favorite sci films. In the film, the monster comes out of the cave and you can see about six inches of two by four used to push it around. Frank imagined the director whispering quite loudly, "Pull it back!". The monster then backs up just enough to hide the plank. That's what I call production values. Arf!

Funny you mention them! They watched pod people, which using a clip from that swamp creature in the opening. Does it have anything to do with the movie? I don't think so. I hear it was used without permission.

It Conquered the World was riffed on MST3K. Both The Galaxy Invaders and Godmonster of Indian Flats have been riffed on RiffTrax, a spiritual sequel to MST3K.

@@TressonKaru That was a common thing that the film's distributor, Film Ventures International, would do with the various movies they distributed; show footage of unrelated movies with similar themes (a sci-fi movie in a sci-fi movie, barbarians in a barbarian movie, etc.) in the opening credit so they could, in essence, create a "brand new" film with an existing movie. The iconic segment where the cast spoofed the infamous opening ironically had nothing to do with the Ator movie they were watching and instead the random film FVI spliced in.

I remember watching a Doctor Who episode when an infection broke out causing swelling and turning green and immediately seeing that it was just green bubble wrap. I should point out that it was a classic episode.
